What Insiders Are Saying
Tabard Inn in Dupont has a reliable brunch, but the patio is a nice spot for dinner (and live jazz), too.
The menu had a wide variety of options -- as did the wine list. Excellent service, great food -- from comfort food to a bit more exotic. And lovely cocktails. And a very nice, welcoming atmosphere. We'll be back!
The breakfast food was just okay nothing to be excited about not sure if I would go back I felt we rushed our
Let's start with one of the best Caesar Salads in town: garlicky dressing with real anchovies on top. The pork cassoulet was generous in its size and flavorful. A well made martini filled the glass. Desserts were tasty and somewhat original. In addition, the Tabard in has a cozy atmosphere, making it feel like your favorite bistro.
The bar and bartenders were fabulous and it was a lively atmosphere but once we were seated that all changed. The service was terrible and the food was sub par. Not a place I would spend my hard-earned dollars at again. I hate to write a bad review but it just wasn’t very good.
I really love the Tabard Inn their chef and pastry chef did not disappoint. We had the octopus starter and all four of our entrees were perfectly done the steak and scallops included. The dessert was the star, I am picky with sweets, the coconut layered white cake with a passion fruit reduction on the side and caramel coconut crisp garnish is worth writing home about. Delicious yet light, the tang of the passion fruit on the side cut and complimented the sweetness. Well done sir pastry chef. I also loved the brûlée styled lemon tart with sesame caramel garnish, it was everything I expected and more. We also ordered the seasonal pie it was standard, prefer warmer serving temp. The wine we had was great a French Cote de Rhône... one of lower/mid priced bottles with an excellent ROI.
We will be back for our next special occasion. Keep up the good work and culinary standards, my family was impressed at your establishment.
It's a bit overpriced, but the environment and surroundings are lovely.
We had brunch for my girlfriends birthday. It was very noisy.
A wonderful, warm, friendly place with great food and service.
A perennial favorite for special occasions: start with a drink in the fireplace room with its wonderful shabby chic decor. If possible do dine in the high ceiling garden area with all of the spectacular artwork.
Although not lengthy, the two page menu coupled with daily specials will satisfy your taste buds.
We will be back!
You can always rely on Tabard Inn for a delicious, special meal and to enjoy your time with your friends.
Get the donuts!!
Great meal. Lovely service. I had the scallops and they were very good!
A beautiful, old, initimate space. There was a fire in the fireplace when we arrived. Food was delicious, service was attentive. Looking forward to my next visit!
It had been a few years since I ate breakfast here. I remember the last time because it was so good and the service was top notch. It was at least as good as that this past Saturday. The waiter was sharp and quick and polite without being slick or obsequious. The food was as close to perfect as you could expect. My wife and daughter were as pleased as I was, which got the day off to an impeccable start. I highly recommend it, which is something I almost never do.
Every time I am in DC I dine at The Tabard - it's phenomenal! The selection of food is wonderful but the Chef makes it all beyond delicious 😋 And, the Pastry Chef does a fabulous job of creating the yummiest desserts I've ever had! Add it to the list of places to dine, you won't be sorry.
We’ve enjoyed dining in the patio at the Tabard Inn on a few previous visits to DC. Tonight it was closed and we were seated in the dining room. The tables were very close together and it was hard to have a private conversation. We spent the evening entertained by the table next to ours.
We celebrated a birthday and they were very kind to bring a birthday dessert and a small after drink for all of us. The food was excellent and they recognized we were catching up with old friends and did not try and rush us out of the restaurant. Food choices were all excellent and loved the comfortable feel. I'll be back!!
This was my first time coming with a friend with a child, and they were so helpful and lovely. A table in the corner, with a high chair. When she dropped her spoon they took it back to the kitchen to clean it up, and returned it on a silver platter. Helped us get the stroller down the steps. I've always loved Tabard - it's such a lovely historic gem in the city. Cozy at night inside, or glorious for a brunch in summer on the back patio. Food has always been delicious, but the service tonight was really spectacular. Thank you Tabard team!
We enjoyed our evening at the Tabard Inn, a place which has been a stable in our DC dining over the years. The food is solid and very good. I was disappointed by my tiny apertif which was an $8 soda in a small glass (gee whiz). But the entrees for our party of 4 were good and the coconut cake was great. I did not like our table which was near the bar (fine until a gaggle of loud mouthed women came in for a drink). I made a reservation a couple of weeks in advance and they could have given us something quieter. But that said, we will be back! We like the Tabard Inn and their staff.
The service is always great. I love going to Tabard because the food, ambiance and people are wonderful.
TJ and Gigi took fabulous care of us on our fifth anniversary. Felt so special on our special day. Highly recommend.
The service was top notch and the food does not disappoint.
Everything was amazing!
Very cozy and home-y feeling. Perfect for a winter date night!
We've been to the Tabard Inn many times. It is a favorite. This last visit did not disappoint, with excellent food, service and ambiance. Our guests from Brazil were very impressed with the whole dining experience. We'll be back!
I love this place so much -- from the decor to the friendly service to the fabulous menu and extensive wine list and creative cocktails. Everything delicious and I am so happy that there are still quirky and human places like this that stand out for their individuality, charm in an otherwise homogenous corporate landscape. It's not a cheap eat, but certainly lower prices than its far less charming neighbors.
Talk about escaping from the cars and noise and City streets. Tabard is stepping into another realm of warmth, joy and comraderie. And the food and service is top notch. One of my favorite places in the City.
As usual, food is very good. Service is also good. The server is knowledgeable and helpful. The place isn’t much for ambiance and the noise level is rather high. I think if it as an old standby.
Unique, charming setting. Very noisy due to lots of hard surfaces. Service a little on the slow side.
We had 2 small plates. Caesar salad priced at $20 was just average. Octopus was excellent. Good wine list. Noise level not conducive to quiet conversation.
Nice for brunch. Dining room is INSANELY loud, don't bring Mom.
Tabard Inn is a cozy, quirky place and we had a lovely dining experience! It's thoroughly 1920s-era decor to reflect its beginnings; on the loud side but low lighting and happy people made it cozy. Very attentive waitstaff, almost too much so: a few times we almost lost our last bite of a dish. The lumpia was delicious with a unique vinegary sauce, fish special was delicious with perfectly cooked bass and just the right vegetable/sauce base for winter, and the chocolate cake appropriately decadent. Delicious mocktails appreciated by this pregnant woman.
We always enjoy dining at the Tabard Inn when in DC. It's a unique spot with great atmosphere, and noisey groups totaling enjoying themselves. Food are drink are truly outstanding. Service is especially great,, and the noise level while loud allows you say anything you like or tell any political secrets you my be holding on too without fear of any word getting heard. Go, if you haven't been. It's a little like stepping back in time, with the same people as in this era...
Charming setting. Service a little slow but attentive when attending us.
We enjoyed a lovely lunch here, the food was good, the service excellent. The only problem is the noise! It was very difficult to have a conversation.
Very comfortable atmosphere for brunch. Fresh donuts are to tie for.
We have been as a family 3 times and each visit has been perfect!
We only go for special occasions because we really can’t afford it😬
Our next visit will be May 12th for our son’s graduation from AU -he asked that I make the reservation pronto!!
Most adorable old historic Inn to take out of town guests for Brunch! Mimosas were so fresh tasting and the Tabard Inn donut was warm and delicious! The Virginia Ham eggs Benedict was very fresh and satisfying! I’d go again and take home the donuts!
Food was great, lovely setting and service was incredible. Fun evening.
We enjoyed a friends retirement party this week at The Tabard Inn. As usual started with cocktails in the lounge and then went to our requested table in a quieter room upstairs. The food was very enjoyable and good options on the wine list. The Tabard never disappoints.
