What Insiders Are Saying
Tabard Inn in Dupont has a reliable brunch, but the patio is a nice spot for dinner (and live jazz), too.
My family and I enjoyed another wonderful meal at The Tabard Inn! This time it was Father’s Day brunch. The food was as delicious as ever (our entrees: Tabard Inn omelet, Steak and eggs and Chicken & waffles), and the hosts and wait staff were warm, inviting and professional...as always.
A decided lack of professionalism on the part of the valet parking service threatened to taint our experience, but the dining experience overcame the subpar valet team.
Had a wonderful time here and will defiantly return. We are locals and finally made our way! The question really is what's not to like!
We had a beautiful graduation celebration dinner. Food was excellent, as was the service. Our request for patio seating was honored, which made the event even more special. It had been several years since we'd visited the Tabard, but I would say they are back to their old form of excellence--and you can't beat the ambiance.
Food was amazing. Service was outstanding. The only issue was the noise level in the room. We could barely hold a conversation.
Four of us enjoyed a wonderful Friday lunch outside on the covered patio. The food was delicious, and we shared the chocolate cake, which was a real treat. A very special meal!
It was our anniversary and we were placed in a quiet out of the way corner on a week night and it was wonderful! Great service, excellent food and wine, leisurely and even complementary glasses of a delicious sparkling wine to end the evening. Outstanding experience!
What they got right. The decor was warm, unique, and charming. But that was about the best thing. The other thing they got right was the dessert. We got the blue berry hand pie which was very good. The appetizer sauté calamari was too salty and the squids were small. I got the game hen adobo which was dry. My husband had the scallop with gnocchi. He liked it. I thought it was ok. The waiter was not around for most of our meal. He stood in one corner of the room and didn’t bother to look when I tried to get his attention. We had to call on different service staff to get help. Overall, maybe a nice place for a drink and dessert but I wouldn’t go back for dinner.
I did not find that our lunch at the Tabard Inn was good at all. Food was overcooked (at least mine was), it was very noisy and even though we had made the reservation some time ago, the table was not well located. The service was poor and it was hard to hear what our server was saying over the din of the other diners. We valet parked two cars (at $20 each) and when we came out, we could not find the valet. This is not a place that I would return to although I had looked forward to going.
Our server Vince could not have been better! It was a special lunch for favorite dads I know and have the pleasure of working with and from the moment we entered the restaurant to the time that we left, it felt like we were the only customers in the restaurant. It’s always a pleasure to make a trip back.
A great place for brunch with a menu to satisfy a variety of tastes and appetites. Friendly, efficient service adds to the positive experience. I definitely recommend the Tabard Inn if you are looking for a great brunch experience with friends.
Great food in an interesting space. It was perhaps a little cozy but overall great ambiance!
The setting is much of the charm, though the food continues to be very good. This time, however, we were a little disappointed with the service. My friend and I wanted to share a salad and some other dishes but were told the kitchen does not split shared dishes in the kitchen -- we would have to do that ourselves (though other restaurants are happy to do this). We ended up passing our dishes back and forth and scraping half of the entrée onto an additional small plate. Our server also brought everything at once, contrary to our request, so the entrée had to be returned to the kitchen for warming while we ate the salad and appetizer.
Unbelievable brunch!!! Delicious corn muffins, French toast bites, shrimp and grits... adorable decor!!!
Four of us came on a Thursday night. Our reservation was ready right on time. However the restaurant was VERY busy. We were seated in the dining room which was very loud. Too loud for conversation or comfort. Luckily we were able to be seated in a different room which was lovely. The food was very good. Lobster and shrimp ravioli and lemon brûlée tart get my thumbs up. Others enjoyed the risotto.
Really great space, food and service. The ambiance is like taking a step back in time but the food and service are top notch.
Graduation lunch. Such a cool, old times, quaint, Victorian-ish Inn and restaurant. Been here many times and always love it. A real find in DC. Also neat to just walk around the Inn and bar lounge before or after dinner!
We loved everything about our stay at the Tabard Inn this past weekend. The staff is incredible and the food is so fresh and delicious and what a special historic hotel in a great part of the city. We definitely will be back and thank you to everyone that was so nice to us!
A very memorable experience. Delicious food, lovely ambiance!
Delightful as always. A very special place.
The food is great! Menu is inventive and presented well. I had, and would recommend, the tuna and the tenderloin. Service is very good. Just enough attention. This is my third visit and will be back.
This is truly a hidden gem! My 2nd visit in two weeks was equally fantastic! Soft shell crab, watermelon blueberry gazpacho, tomato mozzarella salad & raspberry basil sorbet/ Creme brûlée for dessert! Exquisite, ALL!
Wonderful hidden treasure that is always a great treat.
Start to finish, this was a delightful dining experience (for all 3 of us). Food was beautifully prepared and served, our server could not have been more attentive while being unobtrusive at the same time. I would reserve again at Tabard when I'm in Washington.
Loved the live blue grass music- so fun!
I took a professional friend to the Tabard Inn because I had dined there before and really enjoyed it. My colleague had one of the specials as his entrée: grilled halibut over rice with veggies. I had seared tuna in a shallot-peanut crust, served with scallion noodles, mushrooms & tomatoes. Both entrées were delicious. Our server was as good as the food.
The food was cold by the time was served. The omelets were dry and lacked ingredients like Cream cheese for cream cheese omelette. The inlets were very salty as well. The room was beautiful. We got a great spot and service was ok
service was very slow
Despite the fact that I booked well in advance for a special occasion, the host gave me and ny daughter a choice between an indoor table by the kitchen or an outdoor table next to a stairwell & facing a wall, even though there were many other tables available. Very disappointing.
Go to Tabard Inn for the ambiance, particularly if you can sit outside (though it can get loud). Dinners can be quite good, as can the cocktails. Skip lunch here, however. The quality drop off between dinner and lunch is fairly drastic, in my experience. I had lunch there a few days ago (the Caesar Salad and Tabard Burger) and found both to be extremely mediocre. The service was not good. Even though I didn't eat 85% of the burger, no one there seemed to notice or care to ask me if it had something to do with the food. So, in sum, sort of an inconsistent restaurant, where the service and food are much better at dinner. Save the effort and money at lunch, though, and go someplace else.
Oui - par excellence. Bravo. Spectacular. Delightful meal
The Tabard Inn remains a long time favorite of mine for good reason. The entire experience from drinks to dessert is wonderful. It begins with the atmosphere. The place is absolutely lovely, especially the patio dining space.
I recently brought a group of people to dine and everyone enjoyed the drinks, the food, the service and the time we spent. I had the organic mixed greens salad that tasted anything but simple. It had edamame, red onions, mung bean sprouts, water chestnuts, cucumber, shiitake, sesame dressing. It was fresh and delicious. Initially I had wanted to have the roasted pear salad, but it had sold out. This was not a poor substitute at all. For an entree I had the Seared Tuna and it was perfect. The menu provided something for everyone and everyone was happy!
We were a party of five seated upstairs where it was relatively quiet. Cocktail service and starters came out in the expected period of time but entrees were very slow!! Our server was competent but never smiled! We love the place and will always go back but wish food came out faster (it was very hot when served, however). Our server in the lounge before dinner was terrific and interacted cheerfully. Love Dante!!
The donuts were great. I have a lot of food allergies so my choices were limited. Everything was fine. A fun place to go.
We were incredibly disappointed and the food was terrible. I called and spoke with the manager. She was going to speak with the owner and get back to me the next day and we never heard back from them. We were there with a party of 9 after our daughter’s graduation and could not have been more disappointed with our $800 meal.
Every time we visit Washington, DC, we have to go to Tabard Inn. It's one of my favorite places for brunch.
Our visit was wonderful. The Tabard Inn is one of our favorite places. The only problem this time was the noise level. We had trouble hearing each other. It quieted down about 1:30, so maybe the time to schedule lunch is late! Staff was very gracious in moving us from outside to inside, but unfortunately it was just as loud!
Very unique old Inn with a lot of character. It was pretty loud so it was difficult to talk with a large table of 6. The food was great
We enjoyed a wonderful Mother’s Day brunch! I will return again!
Food was great as always and we love the atmosphere. However, our party of four arrived at 1:15 for a 1:30 Mother’s Day brunch reservation and we weren’t seated until shortly before 3 pm. Glad we didn’t have children in our group. They definitely overbooked. We were offered earlier seating on a covered patio but it was raining and temperatures were in the 50’s so that wasn’t a comfortable option for us.
