We had a small group of four and went for brunch. We were seated on the patio, which was covered and comfortable. The service was strong, and we never went without refreshed drinks. The food was good overall, but nothing mind blowing. Just solid. We enjoyed our brunch and will come back. Especially to hang with Dante the bulldog.
Food was a little Asian Fusion, good but really preferred more traditional fare. I’ll be back because it is still one of my favorite places in DC
I sat on the patio. They had no mosquito repellent or candles to ward off these bugs. I now have over 10 bites on my ankles. Everything else was great.
Wait staff were pleasant and the food tasty. We opted to eat in the courtyard as the noise inside was a bit loud.
Good food. The patio was lovely on a nice afternoon.
Always a solid choice for good food and ambiance. Great for small groups and special occasions.
Loved the ambiance! The waiting area was cool and dark, which I liked - I bet it's lovely with a fire in the fireplace in the winter. We actually ate on the (covered) patio - also lovely. Lots of fun rooms to explore - I bet it's a great place to stay, too! The food was great, with some unusual choices (duck hash), and even the standards like eggs benedict were delicious and the potatoes were done almost exactly the way I like (crispy). Don't miss getting the doughnuts! Even though they are served first, rather than as dessert, it's almost better because you know you won't have to same room for them!
Have wanted to do the Tabard patio for ages and we were pretty disappointed. Walking through the inn to the patio the inn looks worn dark and tired. The patio was nothing special - plants here and there and some nice garden sculpture but not the atmosphere we expected at all based on the great reviews. The staff was friendly and accommodating and the food was very average. We probably will find another spot when guests come to town in the warm weather - sorry Tabard Inn.
A delightful place to bring your granddaughter for her birthday!!
Went here for brunch with my fiancé & the food was delicious service was great & ambiance was outstanding. Would definitely recommend & will go again!
Always a pleasure dining at the Tabard Inn - especially outdoors on a nice day.
I love the Tabard Inn, even when it changes, it always feels the same comfortable, wonderful place.
We sat outside and everything was lovely until the Bluegrass band started playing. I wish had been told before we sat down about that. Yes we were offered to move indoors, but we had just started eating and moving seemed disruptive and rude.
Also the bathroom was not very clean.
We did brunch for the 1st time. Very reasonable. Only 4 star for food. Need to add some fruit to eggs, bacon & fries.
Service was dwindling forward the end, I wanted to order Tabasco, syrup, milk substitute, another Bloody Mary, etc. It would’ve been nice if they also refilled our coffee.
We were visiting from out of town and meeting friends from the DC area. We were also celebrating two birthdays. We'd come by early to request a table where we could hear ourselves talk. We were given a lovely table upstairs by the window. I was also introduced to our server so I could coordinate the birthday dessert presentation. I believe her name was Oyuko--she was outstanding. She seemed to know exactly when to appear, never rushed us, went over specials, answered all of our questions and made us feel very cared for. It was a wonderful night for us and our friends. Thank you!
Old favorite that never disappoints
Food and service were very special. Server was particularly wonderful !
I am a fan of the Tabard Inn, but I had not eaten in that dining room before and wouldn't do it again. It was painfully noisy.
First time that I went to the Tabard Inn the atmosphere and decorate was great.
A little pricey for lunch Egg roll $17, delicious but really it was the price of an entree. Shrimp tacos $17, again delicious but small shrimp and over priced for lunch.
Great to get a client but not if i was paying myself.
Lobster roll was very disappointing because there was barely any lobster and too much cilantro and crunchy salad stuff for $22. I had a lobster roll in Nantucket this summer where the bun was 12 inches and it was nothing but 1 and a half pounds of fresh lobster meat for $26. No comparison here. Will never order that again.
The tofu pad Thai was nothing but rice noodles with a sprinkling of ground peanuts and a few pieces of fried tofu. No detectable sauce. I lived in Southeast Asia for years, this is not what pad Thai is supposed to be. Certainly not a good dining experience.
55th birthday for wife
Beautiful historic location with fantastic food.
It was my first time sitting outside in their courtyard for dinner. I would highly recommend outside seating. There was no noise, and the ambience was wonderful.
Tabard has lasted for decades because it should. A delightful and comfy private oasis in shiny and glossy downtown. Plus, for us it's only 1/2 block away, so the bar is our default evening cafeteria. See you again soon!
Expensive. Worth it for a special occasion. Good food. Lovely quirky atmosphere and great garden. But the garden was overwhelmed by the music so we couldn’t sit out there to eat and talk.
From the greeting on arrival, to the friendly and attentive service, to the food, the Tabard Inn is a quiet gem in D.C.
Lovely setting with excellent service. We only had salads and drinks . Since our sample of the food was so limited I didn't give Tabard the highest rating in the food category but the salads were very tasty.
Amazing meal. Clients were duly impressed. We count on Tabard to deliver a wonderful DC experience and they did not disappoint. Menu is on point!
Wonderful outdoor patio!
Food, service and ambiance is amazing!
We were seated in the back room which was very loud. Although we both ordered exactly the same thing, Eggs Benedict with ham, my date’s order came out as Eggs Benedict with spinach. Service was also slow and less than attentive.
The donuts are fantastic! It is a must try item when you go to Tabard Inn.
I also enjoyed my shrimp&grits which was very rich and flavorful.
Nothing beats classic American cuisine done right! I can’t wait to bring my friends visiting DC and try their dinner menu.
Dinner at the Tabard Inn was wonderful, as usual. It's the place I always take out-of-town guests or to go on special occasions. I've been going here for 35 years and it is as great as always. The outside patio was especially pleasant, as the noise level is minimal, and it's beautiful, cozy, and intimate! Food and service were excellent as always. Highly recommend.
The Tabard Inn remains a favorite refuge during my DC travels. The lodging is cozy and charming, and the meals and gathering spaces are perfect for relaxing, socializing, or holding meetings. Like no other place.
Perfect cozy venue for a birthday dinner for my wife. We thoroughly enjoyed the scallops and the rockfish special. The service was excellent, as well. Tabard Inn remains one of our favorites in DC.
You won't be disappointed with an evening at this out of the way and unique gem. From music in the lounge to dinner in the dining room ... enjoy.
