Hadn't been in years and was so happy to return. Great food, classic ambience, relaxed and leisurely meal. Only regret was not arriving early to enjoy a cocktail in the lounge.
The setting is lovely. I wish there were healthier options with less meat and more whole grains. I appreciate their efforts to use sustainable ingredients and wish that were featured more.
Three colleagues and I needed a quiet place to enjoy a meal and to discuss a long day's meeting to prepare for the next day. The Tabard Inn provided the perfect place. We had a quiet corner table where we could have a discussion without distracting other diners. The food is always wonderful and the service is knowledgeable and nicely paced. We enjoyed the mushroom risotto, the duck leg cassoulet and the wild boar pasta along with an excellent wine suggested by our server. It was the perfect end to a long day.
food use to be better, cheaper and didn't take as long to get. The server was good, but the food took forever to come.
Absolutely love this place and the dining experience.
Lovely restaurant. Wonderful atmosphere. Excellent service. Limited menu.
I just don’t go to the Tabard enough. They have never disappointed. Our waiter Tien was excellent. The menu is always different and the wine always well presented.
Pre fixe menu was overpriced for food that was cold and felt mass-produced.
Uneven, and expensive.
Lovely place. English country house hotel ambiance. Quirky, Comfortable and delightful. I will come back. The food was good but not outstanding, but I only had the burger. My wife’s shrimp taco was very tasty.
Overall - excellent!
I love bring my guests to the Tabard Inn for lunch or dinner. They always shows us such a great time along with the food being delicious the service is really above five starts. Be back soon for another great meal and good fellowship with my guests and with the staff.
I’ve been to the TI many times over the years, and my last visit was really disappointing. The chef and management are definitely trying to turn things around. The food was MUCH better and the service was also a marked improvement from two months ago. I look forward to coming back again soon.
Service was awesome; our server was attentive but not intrusive
Food was disappointing. Duck in the cassoulet was very dry and tasted old. The halibut special was bland. Cioppino was very good.
Love the atmosphere food is always great and staff always pleasant and efficient.
The food is worth the wait--but it was a loooonnnggg wait. Our server was good about coming to check in with us, but we sat without food for far too long. I love the atmosphere here, though.
Such a cool hide-away and amazing food!
Update: management reached out and apologized for the sour welcome, which demonstrates that the staff does care about hospitality and their patrons. I’m looking forward to my next visit to Tabard.
Original post: The food is always excellent when I visit. I especially look forward to the donuts but we got chicken and waffles and the French toast. Both were delicious! Unfortunately, the hostess was rude and unwelcoming. I’m not sure if I offended her somehow but she gave me a fake smile and seated my friend and I at an awkward table, squished between a bench and a round table. I’m truly disappointed by the service provided by the hostess. I felt uncomfortable throughout my visit. Fortunately, our waiter was extremely friendly and accommodating.
Best Brunch!!! Wonderful combo of egg dishes and sandwiches. Love the churro waffles and chicken.
Best omelette in a while. Good service and comfortable setting.
Love this place. A dc institution.
Only if they don't have any food sensitivities. Ordered halibut, dairy free, $35. Strangest preparation for a good piece of fresh fish, several bitefuls of what appeared to be horseradish in the sacuce. Overpowering.
Overall the place is a good choice. I personally didn't love my food (it was ok) but my friend loved his. The place is very pretty and special.
I went here for a birthday dinner with 6 friends. We had requested a quiet location so we could hear one another speak, and we received exactly that (it probably helped that we went at 5:30 on a Sunday). They put us at a round table, which let us have a whole-group conversation, which was great. The service was perfect -- attentive without being intrusive. They brought the birthday girl (me :) a complimentary dessert with a candle, and gave our whole group complimentary glasses of pear liqueur at the end of dinner. Overall a wonderful experience!
The food was good but the experience was ruined by extremely slow service. We were booked for 1:15 but didn't get a table until after 2:00 p.m., then service at the table was also very slow. It was noisy, and busy, but there were also empty tables, so ... no excuse. Another oddity is: in the women's rest room a "changing table" for infants was actually the top of a dresser pushed under a very large, rickety mirror. No sane parent would want to put their baby on top of a dresser where a huge mirror looks like it is about to fall off the wall above them. Scary!
Basically, the Tabard Inn has good kitchen cooks but is let down by poor operational management. Sadly, I wouldn't go back, or recommend it.
Very noisy. Food overcooked. Place has slipped badly
My wife, baby son and I had brunch at the Tabard Inn on the occasion of the anniversary bod my wife and I meeting. I had chosen the Tabard Inn based on its location and other reviews. While it was overall a nice experience, we found it annoying that there was no ramp entrance and we’re also not too impressed by the food. It was in fact surprisingly disappointing, given how excited we were at seeing so many dishes we liked on the menu. My wife had the eggs benedict with spinach and thought they were a bit blah. Not bad, but also nothing to rave about. I opted for the steak and eggs, and thought I could have done a much better job at home. The steak was served cut up and on top of the potatoes, which means it got cold very quickly (I ordered it rare). The accompanying chimichurri was even more disappointing though, as it was a variation of it which was both creamy and sour - in other words a suave that preserved none of the essence of that a chimichurri is supposed to be. All in all, nice location with an eclectic atmosphere yet only average food.
Our table and food was fine, but the noise level was particularly elevated during our time in the restaurant making it difficult at times to converse with our table companions.
Service was good, but the food lacked any spice or taste. You can tell that the raw ingredients were good, but it still lacked taste.
Also, not great for vegetarians and at least half the entrees for brunch have pork.
I always like the Tabard Inn, but this time it took 30 minutes for a waiter to visit our table the first time.
Excellent brunch offerings. I had the smoked Gouda grits and it was great with perfect poached eggs and prepared grits. The Tabard donuts are a real treat.
Excellent all around. Cool atmosphere
The meal was delicious and the service very good. We thoroughly enjoyed it.
Outstanding scallops and pork chop!
Very slow delivery of food. Server was nice enough but it took 45 minutes for the food to show up. Not good when you have to go back to work.
Very elegant and fun.
Had an enjoyable brunch with friends ... except the skillet fries were lukewarm and soggy. They should have been cooked to a crisp.
This is my go-to restaurant for meeting up with old friends when visiting DC. Fantastic every single time.
Wonderful food with outstanding friendly service and adequate prices. Who could ask for more!
We thought the service was excellent and the food was quite fine, but as the evening quickly wore on -- even on a midweek night -- the noise quickly became intolerable. It is a lovely space. Perhaps more widely spaced tables and some use of tablecloths would help? Best wishes to the staff.
Enjoyed my meal but should note that my risotto was a little crunchy.
