The meal was delicious and the service very good. We thoroughly enjoyed it.
Outstanding scallops and pork chop!
Very slow delivery of food. Server was nice enough but it took 45 minutes for the food to show up. Not good when you have to go back to work.
Very elegant and fun.
Had an enjoyable brunch with friends ... except the skillet fries were lukewarm and soggy. They should have been cooked to a crisp.
This is my go-to restaurant for meeting up with old friends when visiting DC. Fantastic every single time.
Wonderful food with outstanding friendly service and adequate prices. Who could ask for more!
We thought the service was excellent and the food was quite fine, but as the evening quickly wore on -- even on a midweek night -- the noise quickly became intolerable. It is a lovely space. Perhaps more widely spaced tables and some use of tablecloths would help? Best wishes to the staff.
Enjoyed my meal but should note that my risotto was a little crunchy.
Good place! It was my third time and it was good as usual. Nice atmosphere and amazing food. I recommend it
Great ambience. Wild boar just ok. Grouper was outstanding. Home made desserts beyond outstanding. Look forward to returning for another meal and perhaps staying in the Inn
We used to love Tabard Inn—that was where we went the night we got engaged 20 years ago. We enjoy getting drinks in the fireplace room with sofas, and the happy hour specials are good. However, our dinner on this night was really disappointing. My husband got beef tenderloin and sweet potato purée. This should have been delicious but frankly tasted like vinegar. My scallops were *fine*. Nothing special. Sadly I don’t think we’ll be going back for dinner.
Great place for brunch . I had duck confit with eggs - outstanding . Noise level was moderate / high . Service was good and waiter was very patient and personable .
Old world atmosphere .
I would recommend this cozy spot for brunch .
I go fairly regularly to the Tabard Inn for breakfast and lunch as it's near my office. This is the first time I've been to brunch in awhile as we took some friends who were new to DC. Really enjoyed the expanded brunch menu with categories like "Benes" (different forms of Eggs Benedict), Grits, Hash and "With an Egg" options as well as the Tabard Traditions. I had the BBQ Wild Boar Bene served n a polenta cake, which was delicious.
Since it was a chilly Sunday, there was a nice roaring fireplace in the sitting room in front of the restaurant, which makes the room warm and inviting and always a favorite. And the service is always very attentive.
Our friends loved the entire experience!
Great place. Been going to Tabard Inn for brunch many years. Cozy & welcoming & beautiful.
Had a wonderful time. Food and service were excellent!
Because I had many great brunches at the Tabard Inn in the '80s and '90s, this was disappointing. Dining room remains pretty. Basket of tempting breakfast breads replaced by smaller offering of mini-muffins. Fresh doughnuts are great - the best part of the meal. My order of shrimp and grits was a very generous size serving, lots of shrimp and ham. Friend had the beef hash, which also was a lot of food. Will have to come back and order lighter dishes.
Ebte- Thank you for your long patronage of the Tabard and your review. We are sorry that our portion size was to large. We will take this into consideration during our next, menu revamp. We are also sorry that our free basket on mini-muffins did not equate to the breakfast breads we use to have. Hope to see you again. All the best- DR
A pleasant historic place for a quite meal. We had a great experience.
Thank you very much for your review. We appreciate those that appreciate our historic atmosphere. If you would like more information about the history of our building please visit our website at the ww. All the best- DR
We went to dinner there for New Year’s Eve and the food was great. They had a 3 course menu for $89 which was delicious. Mu only issue was that they brought the food before we were done eating our appetizers so we felt rushed to eat and enjoy. However it’s a nice, cozy place and the food did not disappoint.
Excellent. Very cosy.
Had not been here for several years but was visiting my old home town and decided to see if the Tabard was as good as I remembered...IT WAS.
Food and service were both top notch. It's terribly nice when things prove to be as good as one remembered!!
We had a wonderful experience at the Tabard Inn. I needed a quiet table because I have tinnitus, and they graciously accommodated. The waiter did a great job, and the food was delicious. All four of us were impressed with our dishes, which included fish, chicken, and vegetarian risotto. It was also fun dining in a historic Washington building. We will definitely return!
Great vegan options!
Wonderful service and very good meals.
It was delightful in every way
Ambiance is excellent. Food and service were incredibly disappointing. Bill was over $800 for our small group and we could’ve had a much better meal elsewhere.
This was my first visit and it was Xmas Eve. Having dined out on many a Xmas Eve, my expectations were tempered since it’s always challenging to find good service and a decent meal on a holiday. Additionally, you always feel like the servers are rushing the patrons through their meals in eagerness to get home to their own families, which I do understand but often makes the experience even more disappointing. This year I was also taking a bit of a risk since I hadn’t dined here before and the reviews were a mixed bag. Our experience was a terrific surprise because not only was the prix fixe menu delicious, but our service was also excellent! We were also celebrating a birthday and our server brought out the desert with a small candle and little fanfare which were both greatly appreciated. The staff were all professional, polite, and made us feel welcome without any rushing at all. The restaurant itself has a fabulous ambience as one might expect in a historic inn and the other diners were a mix of families with well behaved children and couples like ourselves. Everything was understated but elegant and we really enjoyed the meal and evening. We will definitely return on a regular evening and would certainly recommend Tabard Inn for special occasions and their Christmas Eve dinner.
Outstanding service and varied menu options. Good seating with noise level low enough to converse normally.
I usually love the Tabard Inn, especially around the holidays; however, the meal we had was mediocre at best with only fair service. The kale and brussels salad was so salty that it was hard to eat, and the lamb pappardalle was so overcooked that the pasta was in one gummy lump and there was almost no sauce. We had a nice bottle of wine but honestly, the whole meal was disappointing. I don’t know if the chef or the GM has changed recently, but this hasn’t ever been what I’ve experienced here in the past.
We've eaten at the Tabard Inn many times and this was the most disappointing meal. Our server wasn't great. We didn't end up liking any of her recommendations. The winter menu just wasn't my fave. Best things - the fried calamari appetizer, and the hot cider with rum. But the pork belly was bland, the wild boar had way too much pasta and not enough boar, the scallops were OK. The Tiramisu was unusual but not necessarily in a good way. The atmosphere was cozy as usual but again, lackluster service and food. Disappointing after many years of good meals at the Tabard Inn.
Fantastic ambiance, with great service and good food.
The service was impeccable and the food delicious!!
What an awesome brunch! Tasty and wonderful options! Had the soup - homemade and yummy!
Service superb, cozy charm
On a cold dreary evening in December, nothing could be better than stepping inside the Tabard Inn and being greeted by a glowing fireplace, seasonal decorations and a warm welcome from the hostess...except maybe the dinner that followed and the great service we enjoyed. Thanks to everyone at the inn for making the evening magical.
This was my second visit to Tabard Inn and it met all our expectations! We enjoyed Sunday brunch after our daughter’s college graduation. Appreciate valet parking! Be aware if you have mobility issues the dining area can be a bit tight and restrooms a bit challenging to get to. In the summer ask to sit in the courtyard - it’s beautiful!
I’ve been going to Tabard Inn for brunch since 2000 and I’ve noticed a decrease in food quality over the last few years. My lamb chili this past Sunday was not worth $23 - frankly it looked like a bowl of pet food and I could have made something better at home. I’ve still continued to go because I really like the ambience but after this experience I’m thinking that maybe I’ll go just for drinks and not the food in the future. It’s already the third time in recent months that the food has left me disappointed. I’m excepting the omelette and quiches because they are good but I can go anywhere for those - they are not anything special. Tabard Inn should go back to offering innovative dishes for brunch. Once they had fantastic Syrian crepes for brunch but they took that off the menu. They also had a fabulous sea bass or salamon with book choy that they took off the menu. You get the idea...
The food needs to be improved, everybody going it too greasy and poorly qualitative. Also one waitress dropped a knife on the ground and put it back on the table, this is not acceptable.
