What Insiders Are Saying
Tabard Inn in Dupont has a reliable brunch, but the patio is a nice spot for dinner (and live jazz), too.
Cool place. Crab Cake App was great. Halibut special was phenomenal. Blue Berry desert was only ok. Service was excellent. I will definitely go back.
Most outstanding food. Start with the lamb potstickers. We nearly fought over the last one. The scallops were to die for as well as the veal chop. When the scallops were first served, I thought, oh, there are only three. After eating two of them I thought, ohhhhh, there are three. The veal chop was so tender and juicy. Would definitely recommend Tabard Inn to everyone.
Cozy atmosphere and good food at a reasonable price. Service was just a tad slow. Hot, strong coffee and the potatoes were hot and delicious. Great hollandaise sauce on the eggs Benedict! Great location right behind St. Mathew Cathedral on N St. NW, DC.
Wonderful brunch in the courtyard! Our waiter was attentive and suggested some specialties. We had the eggs Benedict and the bacon maple chicken waffle. It was just the right blend of sweet and savory.
Outside patio which is shaded with fans was perfect for brunch.
Food was very good ... very relaxed setting, good service, charming feel. Very comfortable. Can be loud - low ceiling, tables a bit close. Highly recommend to others.
Fathers Day. We went for Brunch at 2pm. We had dined previously at an earlier time and it was rather hectic. 2 pm was perfect for immediate seating and service. The food was exceptional as before, and we enjoyed complimentary donuts in recognition of the occasion. Our food was delivered straight from the kitchen and everything prepared to perfection. I ate every bite of my chicken and waffles though I had hoped to eat less. The burger that my husband ordered was enjoyed equally as well. Of course we were too full for desert but the light fresh doughnut did suffice.
Extremely average. Not sure why it was named one of the best brunches in America. Waiter was nice, but service was slow. I had to ask twice for things like butter and jelly. Took 20 minutes to get a berry smoothie. My shrimp and grits was tasty.
Enjoyed a wonderful Father's Day brunch:-) Great food, service and atmosphere.
My family and I enjoyed another wonderful meal at The Tabard Inn! This time it was Father’s Day brunch. The food was as delicious as ever (our entrees: Tabard Inn omelet, Steak and eggs and Chicken & waffles), and the hosts and wait staff were warm, inviting and professional...as always.
A decided lack of professionalism on the part of the valet parking service threatened to taint our experience, but the dining experience overcame the subpar valet team.
Had a wonderful time here and will defiantly return. We are locals and finally made our way! The question really is what's not to like!
We had a beautiful graduation celebration dinner. Food was excellent, as was the service. Our request for patio seating was honored, which made the event even more special. It had been several years since we'd visited the Tabard, but I would say they are back to their old form of excellence--and you can't beat the ambiance.
Food was amazing. Service was outstanding. The only issue was the noise level in the room. We could barely hold a conversation.
Four of us enjoyed a wonderful Friday lunch outside on the covered patio. The food was delicious, and we shared the chocolate cake, which was a real treat. A very special meal!
It was our anniversary and we were placed in a quiet out of the way corner on a week night and it was wonderful! Great service, excellent food and wine, leisurely and even complementary glasses of a delicious sparkling wine to end the evening. Outstanding experience!
What they got right. The decor was warm, unique, and charming. But that was about the best thing. The other thing they got right was the dessert. We got the blue berry hand pie which was very good. The appetizer sauté calamari was too salty and the squids were small. I got the game hen adobo which was dry. My husband had the scallop with gnocchi. He liked it. I thought it was ok. The waiter was not around for most of our meal. He stood in one corner of the room and didn’t bother to look when I tried to get his attention. We had to call on different service staff to get help. Overall, maybe a nice place for a drink and dessert but I wouldn’t go back for dinner.
I did not find that our lunch at the Tabard Inn was good at all. Food was overcooked (at least mine was), it was very noisy and even though we had made the reservation some time ago, the table was not well located. The service was poor and it was hard to hear what our server was saying over the din of the other diners. We valet parked two cars (at $20 each) and when we came out, we could not find the valet. This is not a place that I would return to although I had looked forward to going.
Our server Vince could not have been better! It was a special lunch for favorite dads I know and have the pleasure of working with and from the moment we entered the restaurant to the time that we left, it felt like we were the only customers in the restaurant. It’s always a pleasure to make a trip back.
We usually have a great experience and amazing food, and for that reason took out-of-towners here for dinner. The entrees were just so-so. Specifically, the fish special was over cooked and dry.
The ambiance is always amazing. Great spot for drinks. Hopefully we just caught them on an off-night.
A great place for brunch with a menu to satisfy a variety of tastes and appetites. Friendly, efficient service adds to the positive experience. I definitely recommend the Tabard Inn if you are looking for a great brunch experience with friends.
Great food in an interesting space. It was perhaps a little cozy but overall great ambiance!
The setting is much of the charm, though the food continues to be very good. This time, however, we were a little disappointed with the service. My friend and I wanted to share a salad and some other dishes but were told the kitchen does not split shared dishes in the kitchen -- we would have to do that ourselves (though other restaurants are happy to do this). We ended up passing our dishes back and forth and scraping half of the entrée onto an additional small plate. Our server also brought everything at once, contrary to our request, so the entrée had to be returned to the kitchen for warming while we ate the salad and appetizer.
Unbelievable brunch!!! Delicious corn muffins, French toast bites, shrimp and grits... adorable decor!!!
Four of us came on a Thursday night. Our reservation was ready right on time. However the restaurant was VERY busy. We were seated in the dining room which was very loud. Too loud for conversation or comfort. Luckily we were able to be seated in a different room which was lovely. The food was very good. Lobster and shrimp ravioli and lemon brûlée tart get my thumbs up. Others enjoyed the risotto.
Really great space, food and service. The ambiance is like taking a step back in time but the food and service are top notch.
Graduation lunch. Such a cool, old times, quaint, Victorian-ish Inn and restaurant. Been here many times and always love it. A real find in DC. Also neat to just walk around the Inn and bar lounge before or after dinner!
We loved everything about our stay at the Tabard Inn this past weekend. The staff is incredible and the food is so fresh and delicious and what a special historic hotel in a great part of the city. We definitely will be back and thank you to everyone that was so nice to us!
A very memorable experience. Delicious food, lovely ambiance!
Delightful as always. A very special place.
We had a very enjoyable brunch while visiting my daughter. We had the duck hash, the Tabard biscuits and gravy, a couple of Mary’s berries, and a side of chicken sausage. The ambiance was pleasant, the coffee was good and the service was exceptional!!!
The food is great! Menu is inventive and presented well. I had, and would recommend, the tuna and the tenderloin. Service is very good. Just enough attention. This is my third visit and will be back.
This is truly a hidden gem! My 2nd visit in two weeks was equally fantastic! Soft shell crab, watermelon blueberry gazpacho, tomato mozzarella salad & raspberry basil sorbet/ Creme brûlée for dessert! Exquisite, ALL!
Wonderful hidden treasure that is always a great treat.
Start to finish, this was a delightful dining experience (for all 3 of us). Food was beautifully prepared and served, our server could not have been more attentive while being unobtrusive at the same time. I would reserve again at Tabard when I'm in Washington.
Loved the live blue grass music- so fun!
I took a professional friend to the Tabard Inn because I had dined there before and really enjoyed it. My colleague had one of the specials as his entrée: grilled halibut over rice with veggies. I had seared tuna in a shallot-peanut crust, served with scallion noodles, mushrooms & tomatoes. Both entrées were delicious. Our server was as good as the food.
The food was cold by the time was served. The omelets were dry and lacked ingredients like Cream cheese for cream cheese omelette. The inlets were very salty as well. The room was beautiful. We got a great spot and service was ok
service was very slow
Despite the fact that I booked well in advance for a special occasion, the host gave me and ny daughter a choice between an indoor table by the kitchen or an outdoor table next to a stairwell & facing a wall, even though there were many other tables available. Very disappointing.
