What Insiders Are Saying
Tabard Inn in Dupont has a reliable brunch, but the patio is a nice spot for dinner (and live jazz), too.
Definitely worth waiting a bit longer to sit outside on the patio - doesn't even feel like you're in DC! And if you're there for brunch, definitely let the server talk you into getting the donuts; they were the best part of the meal.
We love Tabard Inn but were extremely disappointed on Easter brunch. The service was super slow, we had to request multiple times over for our drinks to be refilled, the customers next to us received food/drinks after we'd been seated. Our server was flustered and everything felt hectic.
I took my in-laws for brunch who came from out of town. I was so disappointed by the slow service, aloofness of the server, etc. I won't ever go back for a holiday brunch.
The wine bottle was corked and had to be replaced. The wine list is obscure and mostly costly types that people around here arent't that excited about especially if it's not that good. For example, no Prosecco on the list? Where are the many high quality Napa reds? My order of steak pasta was quite bad and gave me the trots later. This is the first time I have had bad food at the Tabard. Might be time for a look at the chef and menu or both.
Service was horrible. Food was uninspired, overpriced, not worth the looong wait it took to get it from a server who pretty much ignored us.
Always a great choice for brunch. The setting and charm pleases everyone, every time. The staff are very professional and friendly. They noticed it was the birthday of one of our large party and took care to acknowledge it, which was lovely.
Lovely food. Staff were excellent. Good value. Really interesting interior design. Would definitely recommend to a friend.
Definitely get the Tabard Trio. And dessert... wow! Such amazing combinations of flavors and textures - not overly sweet, each ingredient stood out. HIGHLY recommend the strawberry pistachio tart!
Loved it! We attended for brunch, loved the food, and the ambiance!
We arrived about 15 minutes early for our reservation but they still were able to seat us in 5 minutes. The food was tasty (the donuts were better than ever) and the service was good.
Nice experience. We had friends in from South America and wanted to be able to talk. The main dining room can be overwhelmingly noisy so at our request we were seated upstairs near a window opened unto the patio, a nice inside-outside effect. The food was fine, as always, as were the cocktails and our bottle of Malbec.
The brunch food was stellar and the staff were incredibly attentive and generous with free donuts and bubbly to help celebrate our special occasion. Tabard Inn will be my new "go to" whenever there's something celebrate!
Great food and good service considering how busy it was, but the noise made it difficult to have a conversation with the person in front of you.
The Tabard Inn has been around forever and is still a charming delight. Warm and friendly, and the food’s great.
The food was good, but the service was truly unfortunate. My girlfriend and I waited forever and a day for our food to come while everyone around us (Was it because they were men? We’ll never know ...) ordered, ate, paid and left. My water glass was never refilled, and no one cleared our table between courses. Total disappointment.
Superb intro to Washington with a beautiful historical ambiance. Food was excellent.
We ate out on the patio. The food is always great and when we have visitors in town, brunch at Tabard’s is always our go to place.
Great food! Prompt service!
Always love Tabard Inn. The food continues to be delicious, the service excellent.
My husband and I got married at the Tabard Inn three years ago, and we always go out for our anniversary there. They made a special deal out of us, giving us a great table on the patio where we got married. Additionally, the service was exceptional and the food utterly delicious. I would highly recommend the Tabard Inn for anyone looking for a nice place to dine (or get married).
Delicious brunch, stellar atmosphere and staff, amazing experience!!!
Great breakfast! 5stars
Hadn’t been in DC in a few years and was happy that the Tabard Inn is still reliably great. Still funky and professional at the same time! Convivial and delicious.
Always a great place to take out of town visitors. "Cheeky historic" ambiance. Great food. Wonderful bar with terrific music. A real fire if chilly; lovely outdoor seating if mild. A+ staff. There's nothing like it in DC.
Always a treat to sit in the garden at the Tabard Inn & share a meal with a friend!
My daughter and I really enjoyed her birthday dinner. The scallops were the best I've ever had. The wasabi mashed potatoes and grilled brussell sprouts were to die for. Recommend TI for special occasions, no occasion, just because. It was Yum! Also, the best Cosmo cocktail!
I was expecting a more varietal seafood option. I am not a scallop person (although they were delicious) . The service was great and each touch point with an I individual was professional. Still one of my DC favorite restaurants.
Acoustics made is very hard to hear one another. Food not as good as at a reliable low-cost restaurant.
As always The Tabbard never disappoints! Cheerful and knowledgeable staff, delish menu, great wines, sexy atmosphere, and I also love sitting at the bar!
Way too loud for a comfortable conversation among 5 people. Generally the reason people generally go 'out for lunch' is to have a place (outside the office, outside home, outside the noisy coffee shop) is to talk. Eating here is not that place. Food and service is always good If you want to have lunch or dinner with someone and not really be able to hear each other, this would be the place.
Great Sat or Sun brunch spot. Reservations suggested. Eggs benedict were delicious, chicken with waffles, omlettes and more.
We love Tabard Inn, but I have to say the food was TERRIBLE this weekend and super expensive. This did not seem typical. Other than that, they ambiance is always great and the service was great! Super upset about that.
Cozy, eclectic, and inviting, the Tabard offers a warm and enjoyable experience.
We had an excellent dinner for two--a treat while in DC for a wedding. The food was wonderful. I'd have preferred the place to be a little less noisy, and I'd have like to see some more reasonably priced wines on the wine list, but other than that, I only have praise for the Tabard Inn's restaurant.
We were so pleased with our dinner at the Tabard Inn. Everything was delicious. My husband is quite hard of hearing and when I asked our server if we could sit outside she had the manager come over to talk with our party. The manager was so thoughtful. She put us in a private dining area and we were able to enjoy a quiet dinner where my husband could hear. So thoughtful and kind!
Lumpia appetizer and desserts, including a lemon brûlée tart were very good. Adobo chicken entree was dry and the short rib pappardelle was lukewarm and way under seasoned. A disappointing meal at a place I have liked before.
I've only come for breakfast but this is a new favorite dinner spot! The food was phenomenal--delicious and great portion sizes. We had drinks at the bar prior--fun bartenders and great drinks. Will continue to visit!
Decor is quirky and fun. Staff was very nice, and each course came surprisingly quickly. Food was so yummy. We had the special cauliflower soup, Caesar salad and everyone chose the homemade shrimp ravioli which was so good and in the tastiest sauce. When our server noticed we were trying to figure out who owed what (one of us drank a whole lot more than the others) she kindly offered to split the checks for us. Will definitely be back.
The restaurant is charming. Be sure to order the signature donuts. They will keep you from feeling hungry while you await your order.
The fresh squeezed orange juice is not. Order some other beverage. French 75 is a good choice. Valet parking during weekends is especially appreciated.
A lovely setting with outstanding service and delicious food. My only disappointment was when I asked to substitute fresh fruit for hash browns they brought me a bowl with only melons. When I asked about berries I was told there would be an additional charge. In such an upscale place I thought a few berries added to the bowl should have been gratis. Otherwise all our meals were delicious and the warm, fresh doughnuts a wonderful treat.
