We come there at lease 8 times a year when we travel
Our Experience Was not good this time
The waiter left in the middle of our dinner
Nobody came to ask if things are good when they Served the food
We sat at lease a half hour with dirty dishes
I know it was the end of the night but we paid just as much as everybody else and we expect it to be served the same as always
Not this time
Very disappointed !
Delicious dinner with great service! My husband and I were visiting our son and his fiancé who live in the upper east side and wanted a nice dinner. We almost left when initially seated because we thought it was too modern and formal for what we were looking for. I’m so glad we decided to stay! Our waiter was attentive and so positive. We all ordered the filet mignon with a variety of sides. Everything was delicious - particularly the steaks. Would definitely return!
tables are much too close to each other making it very difficult getting in and out. my wife who is physically handicapped and needs a walker was unable to use the walker when we tried to leave the restaurant...NOT good!
One of the best steakhouses in the city. Great bread, iceberg wedge, NY strip, mashed potatoes and mac & cheese.
We really enjoyed our delicious steak.
Everything was grest.
My teenage son and I visited T-BAR with a longtime family friend, who is a 94 year old WW II vet, and whom I hadn't seen in several years.
There couldn't have been a more perfect location for a dinner. It was intimate and quiet enough that the gentleman could share stories about his time in the European theatre with the 102nd Div., and his life afterwards in New York. It was vibrant enough and had a terrific ambiance. The staff was incredible. They accommodated last-minute seating requests so that everyone was properly situated. I had the best martini I've had in years. And the food was simply excellent.
I hope this isn't the last meal we have with my 94 (almost 95) year old friend. But if it was, then T-BAR was the perfect place to spend it. It was an evening I'll never forget, at a restaurant to which I'll always be indebted.
Hate this restaurant. Read my previous reviews. Went this time because it was my friends birthday and she chose it. There is always an issue. Lunch - 3 other tables taken. Bread soggy. Had this waiter before. He is sullen to the point of rudeness and incompetent. Doesn't say hello, doesn't smile, acts like he hates his job and the customers. No matter what we asked for - sugar, straw, olive oil, ice, etc it did not arrive. Requested dressing on the salad - arrived untossed. Had pre-ordered brownie and ice cream dessert. When I arrived I was informed it was no longer on the menu. Everyone orders that dessert. They discontinued the only good thing about the restaurant. I have sent a "private note" to T Bar before. They do not respond. Obviously, they do not care.
Location was great, nice seating and definitely brought in an upscale crowd. The food though was just fine; however, for the prices I was expecting spectacular steaks. We started with the spring rolls which were outstanding. For main dishes of course we got the steak, rib eye, medium, but I wouldn't actually recommend the steaks (were slightly overcooked for medium and not well marbled so didn't have the juice, I should have gotten medium rare if I had read this review!) I would recommend the seabass which was excellent. Service was respectable, they weren't at our elbows, but came by enough to know they cared. Worth the 20% (which is pretty respectable considering the prices!!) Wine was fine, nothing special. Martini was excellent.
If you are looking for a steak place go somewhere else, but still a great place for a meal on the UES on a special occasion.
The most consistent food and service. Tbar has been a neighborhood gem for years. Food is outstanding. Best staff in town!
This restaurant is very attractive and the food is delicious. However, the noise level is deafening. If you don't mind that, it's really a great restaurant. I mind that.
Great restaurant! Food is outstanding as is the service.
Good neighborhood restaurant with tasty cuisine. but can be loud inside with service that is occasionally overwhelmed. Nevertheless, you can do a lot worse. The steaks here are excellent and there are plenty of options for non-carnivores which are very tasty. The wine list is weaker than it should be, though and needs some upgrading. It's no bargain, but good food usually isn't, especially in New York. The crowds we saw on a Tuesday night are testament to the fact that this a solid choice for a reliably good meal.
I have dined here many times for lunch and dinner despite the fact that something always goes wrong. After today's experience I am finished with T Bar. If I could give it no stars I would. My companion ordered the filet, medium rare. It arrived obviously under-cooked. It was bloody and wet. The waiter took one look and whisked it away to be cooked. Sometime later (too long) the waiter returned and waited while the steak was exposed. One look and he took it away again. It was obvious the steak had not been re-cooked. Later it was returned again. Nothing had changed. We were all confused. My companion asked for a fresh filet to be cooked as this was obviously not working. The exterior was black and dry while the interior miraculously remained raw. The waiter agreed. The new filet returned. With the same raw inside. He took it away again. The hostess appeared and accused us of ordering FOUR new filets and said that she would not cook this last one unless my companion promised to eat it. We explained this was only the second filet ordered. She argued. Her pathetic excuse was that the "regular" chef was not on duty. We responded that T Bar is a steak house and they should know how to cook steak. She was rude, argumentative and threatening. She should be fired. I would prefer to take this up with management instead of an inept woman who has no business being in the service industry.
Had the best tuna tartare- and the host was really nice to give me a nice table for me and my date
Disappointing in almost every way. For Restaurant Week, they served a two-course lunch for $26 instead of the requisite three for $29. It was just a cheap move and they shouldn't have participated in the offering. Worse, the service was terrible. I had to ask multiple times for them to refill our water, our waiter only charged us for one meal which we pointed out and he seemed to have zero ability to process the news or respond in an appropriate manner. Just disappointing and we won't be returning.
The best restaurant on the Upper East Side...hands down... fabulous food, excellent and very attentive service...we could not ask for more. Thank you!
As always, excellent in all respects. Lunch and dinner menus are well selected.
The food was done well, everything was cooked to the desired temps. The wait staff seemed understaffed with prolonged wait times making mid day lunch pressed for time. The pricing is high for the items offered and the pre fix menu for restaurant week sneakily cuts out dessert for lunch. All that being said this place serves the best hamburger I have had ( the grind is not too fine, the meat is not too compact, the juiciness is perfect given the appropriate ratio of fat to beef, it had sufficient richness and depth of flavor, and well seasoned). Better than the burger joint, shake shack, all the various steakhouses, PJ Clarks (I have had many burgers). The burger is $23.00 for that price it better be amazing.
We decided to treat ourselves since it was restaurant week and we live less than a block away. Portions were large and delicious. No scrimping . It was great. We’ll go back!
If you live on the Upper East Side, and don't know T-Bar, you're missing the best restaurant in the area. If you live elsewhere and want to dine in a place that is just as good as places with big reputations, come to this place. This is the quintessential New York restaurant against which you should judge other places.
Salads are getting smaller
Great steaks and salad. Wish they had more reasonable glass of wine.
Excellent Upper East Side choice for any occasion. I have always been pleased with my dining experience here.
the noise level is so unpleasant that unless you want to go deaf, or shout at the top of your lungs to be heard, stay away.
I am a regular customer and so I should not be surprised when the dining experience is erratic. But I am having more off meals than good. Tonight they did not honor our early reservation for 4 and kept us waiting at the bar. Neither bartender knew how to make a Gatsby cocktail. After over 20 minutes we were offered a table in the bar area which we did not want because it is noisy, cramped, and dark. We asked if another table was available and the hostess said someone is finishing but she couldn't give us a time when it would be free. We decided to accept the table. The usual delicious bread basket was soft & soggy. We mentioned it to the waiter and he said yes, it is soft and would deliver the usual bread. He didn't. French fries was soggy and oily. Asked for ketchup - 3 times. Ordered glasses of wine 3 times until they were finally delivered. Restaurant was not that crowded that service should have been so poor. When we left it was half empty. Tired of giving them another chance.
Don't bother with the steak. Sullen service makes it a non-starter.
I will not go back. I had to send my food back and the service is fair. My companions were not satisfied either with the quality of the restaurant. Certainly has gone downhill.
We had a great experience on our first visit to T-BAR Steak & Lounge. We had an excellent window table, owner Tony Fortuna stopped by to say hello, the steaks and other dishes were superb, and the desserts were decadently delicious. Our server, Mark, was charming, knowledgeable, and attentive. We'll be back!
Decided to have a little family dinner with my hubby and 3 children on July 5th. We sat outside which was perfect for us. Service was great. Our Server was attentive as well as all the staff! Our dinner was prompt and delicious! I love the Chicken Milanese, my kids loved the pizza and Mac and cheese! Hubby’s Burger was cooked to perfection. And dessert was to die for! The Banana parfait was devine! Will def return again maybe for a date night!
We go to this restaurant regularly. Reservation is honored. The problem is the service is hit and miss. Last week service was attentive and good. This visit the service was awful. We had to flag the waiter several times to ask about our dinner. Then we flagged the busboy to ask the waiter about our dinner. The answer was always the same - "it's coming." It wasn't. Annoying and unacceptable. Noise level can be unbearable. One entree was came out wrong.
Over 50 dinners and they never miss...great food
Good fun and family fun night. Gary our waiter was exceptional, especially since we were a party of 9!
food was good.. waiter was not.. food came out quickly but he never once came over to ask us how our meal was. We all were disappointed with how unprofessional he was..
Always good food, good service and great menu. Both for lunch and dinner
Overpriced and overrun with kids. The weight of the steaks is off. My 24 ounce rib-eye was just a smidge over a pound, The 8 oz filet was like 6 oz. If you're looking for a classic NY Steakhouse, this ain't it.
June 19 lunch. Always a nice experience
Superb as always ... I have been coming here for many years and you’ve never had a bad meal… Casual atmosphere
Food was uneven, service average, very noisy even though the restaurant wasn’t full.
Priced too high for the value
