T-BAR Steak & Lounge (Upper East Side) Ratings and Reviews
My husband and I went on a “date night” after spending much of the week babysitting our grandkids. It was pretty and comfortable. There were many options on the menu. We shared the chopped Caesar salad as an appetizer. My husband had the Chicken Milanese and I had Roast Free Range Chicken. Everything was excellent! For dessert we shared the Strawberry Sundae. Yum... We are anxious to go back and try different menu items.
I have been going to T-Bar since it opened as Lenox Room about 22 years ago. I always liked the place. It always had a great steak and they made the best french fries. I ate there with my wife, my in-laws, friends, for business and once with new friends following the Marathon. It has always been what you expect when you go to a restaurant. I must confess that after it became T-Bar my casual relationship with the owner, Tony Fortuna, became a friendship. Tony has a lot of friends and I'm glad to be counted among. He knows all the famous chefs. I know. I've been there when they show up. But my friendship is not why I'm writing this review. I'm a New Yorker. I go to restaurants. Like all of us, I am critic. I like to think of my self a restaurant destroyer. This place knows how to make, serve and deliver exactly what you hoped for when you went there. And, don't forget the bread made on the premises. And the desserts. The Banana Parfait is my favorite but there's strawberry and chocolate too. Go to T-Bar. You will love it.
All of my experiences at T Bar have been consistently fantastic. The quality of the food - spanning fishes, meats, the raw bar and appetizers - are top notch.
I dine at T Bar every time I visit the city from Los Angeles, and it always lives up to its reputation.
Thursday night, I dined with two colleagues. One started with the octopus and had the salmon; the other and I had the tuna tartare and the NY strip. All of our dishes were perfect. And the roasted garlic that accompanies the steak is a treat.
The wine list is extremely thoughtful vis-a-vis the fare, with special selections as well.
The staff and management are also top-notch, to include the bar staff.
T Bar (and Marea) are my NYC favorites.
The food is always good. The service not so much. Our waiter barely attended to us. He didn't make sure we served in a timely fashion, didn't check to see how our food was ( one diner's salmon was not cooked as requested) and generally the only time other than when taking our order I heard from him was when he brought the check and was clearly engaging me to make sure he got his tip( which grudgingly he got as the rest of the non- wait staff worked hard).
After going for many years sorry to say we won't be back! When being shown to a table right by the service station, we requested the one immediately behind, since it was also empty, and would be a bit less hectic. Told that that one was being held for a party that wasn't yet all there, so it was unavailable. This was a at 6:30. Since our party of 4 was all there we again asked perhaps we could make the change. Again we were refused. That table remained UNOCCUPIED fora the following 40 minutes! To add injury to insult, the steak was so tough that we contemplated returning it. Most was left on the plate, and when asked if we wanted to take it home, told them no, and the reason why. There was no consideration provided to us. OK. We won't be back. Couldn't hear our companions anyway as the noise level was also unbearable.
I brought my daughter for a farewell dinner before she left for Europe. Although we were only 15 minutes late for the reservation (F train), they had given our table away and said that we would have to wait another another twenty minutes, unless we wanted to wait in the lounge. We took the lounge, which was lovely. Food was good, service was great! Would recommend
T Bar has many things to like. Good food, attentive service and simple ambiance. It is expensive for what it is. T Bone at $63 is 15% more than great steakhouses last time I checked. I had a $28 Hamburger. Need I say more. Part of it the upper east side syndrome where there are many people of a certain age with affordability and are used to the pricing. Liked it but the value is a stretch.
TBar is a friendly neighborhood restaurant which offers a variety of delicious salads, burgers, steaks and appetizers ranging from tuna tartar to watermelon salad with feta in the summer. The menu varies from season to season and the food is consistently good.
