Sycamore Ratings and Reviews
I was with two friends who both found their meals excellent. I had two starters. The Chanterell Mushroom soup was good. The grilled Spanish Octopus was advertised to come with a crunchy Persian Salad; it was served with beans that were a touch under cooked. Too bad because it made the octopus soggy. Giving it a 4 star because my friends really enjoyed their dinners and starters.
Our first visit to Sycamore to celebrate our 18th Anniversary and we were more than pleased. We were seated at a cozy corner table and greeted with complimentary glasses of bubbly. Appetizers and entrees were outstanding and our waiter was attentive and friendly. Can’t wait until our next visit!
We chose Sycamore for our anniversary dinner based on online reviews. The hostess and servers all wished us well on this special occasion, and the bar tender/sommelier appeared with complimentary champagne! The food was fantastic and beautifully presented at a leisurely pace. We were seated at what was described as their best able -- one in the corner, which probably meant it was the quietest -- a key to our enjoyment as the general noise level was a bit more than we like. We ordered a salad (which they split for us without our asking), two entrees (skate and steak), a shared dessert, a cocktail and a glass of beer, and the bill came to $100, before tip. Money well spent!
We've eaten here many times. The ambience, service, friendliness, are all outstanding. On this trip, the food was a bit of a mixed bag. Three of us shared 2 kale salads - there was plenty of it, but overall the salad lacked inspiration. It was pretty plain.
Two of us then had chicken, which was wonderful, and one had and enjoyed the steak.
I'd also like to note that the wine pours were pretty skimpy - for $12-16/glass I've never understood a restaurant's reluctance to have a healthy pour.
There are times when a menu leaves the 'interesting' space and seems like it's trying too hard. I think on an overall basis this is how we felt about the current menu - they're great at preparing a dinner, but maybe trying to hard to be innovative. Still, a go-to for us.
The starter was very good - grilled octopus, cooked perfectly. We ordered the Pork tasting platter for 2. The menu did not mention, nor did the waiter tell us that almost everything on the plate was deep fried. It took a very long time for our food to arrive, and when it did, the shnitzel was very overcooked. The waiter was solicitous, but over busy. The manager apologized for the overcooked meat, but did not do anything about it on the bill.
No disappointments at Sycamore. I dined with my friend from No. California for our annual visit.
Food excellent, staff willingly split starters, salad & dessert between us. Having the option of smaller portions of several samplings is a better experience than large entrees when the food preparation is this good.
Friend's recent birthday dinner was at The French Laundry in Yountville, Ca. ...she was quite pleased with the offerings at Sycamore.
We love Sycamore. Wonderful food, lots of local sourcing, each–carefully prepared. Scott is the best bartender in Boston. The food is excellent, bluefish pate is a perennial favorite, and the new cough dish is outstanding. The bread is also wonderful. This is definitely our favorite restaurant in the greater Boston area.
My date had picked Sycamore because of recommendations from her friends that had been there. We had a reservation ahead of time and was seated as soon as we arrived. The service was very attentive. Good wine selection and an eclectic menu. The food came out in a timely fashion. We went with the Pork dish for two. All four dishes were delicious and so was the wine. It is a small place and you are seated pretty close to other parties which makes it feel a bit less private than what most people would hope for. With that being said we enjoyed dinner and will definitely be going back.
