Sycamore Ratings and Reviews
Time after time, Sycamore delivers some of the best meals I’ve eaten in Boston. This one was no exception. From the cocktails, to the wine list, the hospitality and service, and the FOOD, my god, the food, this has been my favorite place to go in the Boston area for years. Keep crushing it y’all!
We were pleased to get a table on a busy Saturday night. We liked the snacks: pickled veggies and bluefish pate. Interesting cocktails. The spicy grilled mackerel didn't quite live up to its name, but it was pretty good anyway. Sycamore is always a comfortable place to go. We are never disappointed.
I was disappointed in my meal this time. I have eaten here many times before. I love the creativity of the chef usually. This time my salads was fabulous my main course was bland and uninteresting. No wonderful flavor on my fish so this was disappointing. The dessert again was great!
Dinner was a mixed bag. Not the usual in Sycamore.
The food, service and everything else about he meal was impeccable. Venison is one of my favorite dishes, but it's difficult to find a restaurant that prepares it well. The venison I had at Sycamore was head and shoulders better than any I have had. My wife had a monk fish dinner that she loved - the portion was very generous and she took it home for lunch the next day. I look forward very much for my next visit there.
Food was excellent and good service.
Plenty flavorful appetizers: chicken liver mouse, bluefish pate, citrus salad and endive salad were excellent.
The pork board is back in the menu and it is a must. Pork chops, ribs, belly, sausage all with unique texture and flavors.
The dessert was good nothing exciting. Lemon pot du creme a bit too creamy ( would prefer dark chocolate or other pie/crisp options).
Coffee was cold but they brewed a fresh pot after we commented. All good.
I would consider myself a quasi regular to Sycamore. Always fantastic food, exceptional service. The waitstaff has the gift of reading a table and leaving it alone or attending to its needs. I’ve never ever had a bad meal or even a fair one-it’s always great. I could go on and on.
I live this cozy gem in Newton. Ever since I discovered this restaurant a few years ago, it's always my go to restaurant I recommend to family and friends. I love how they have food that is season, yet items that are always on the menu often. Their boards for two are great! My personal favorite is the duck board usually in the colder months. I tell people that my favorite dessert at a restaurant is hands down here at Sycamore...the soft pillowy beignets are the BEST. It's not fancy, but are the best way to end a meal - warm and comfy inside. Even if I'm near full from all the other food, I ALWAYS get dessert. No questions asked. My husband already knows it's a requirement every time we eat there. Although, it's not convenient to bring kids since the place is small, it's always a nice treat when we get to go and enjoy a good meal. Hands down, my favorite restaurant when people ask, and that's not an easy question for me to answer since I love food so much!
Our server was helpful but didn’t understand not to interrupt. Instead of coming to our table and waiting for a pause in the conversation, she would put her head into the conversation and start talking. We had contacted the restaurant to see if they could accommodate a vegan. The vegan dish was fantastic! The policy of an up-charge for changing French Fries for another “vegetable” is ridiculous. We asked that the speaker near us be turned off, and they graciously did it.
As usual, the duck board was outstanding. Also , as usual, one must make a reservation 2-3 weeks in advance if you want prime time seating. The restaurant is small and cosy and noisy (brick walls and wood floors, all hard surfaces, make conversation difficult.) The food is outstanding, especially the various boards which rotate throughout the year, so we put up with the small annoyances and enjoy our meal.
I'd heard rave reviews about this restaurant for quit some time. I had an occasion to gather with 3 good friends and decided on Sycamore. We all loved the food, from starters to main. Good wine as well. It was comfortable, warm and you could easily converse with ease. Can't wait to return!
Dinner was perfect. Everything we ordered from the chorizo croquettes to the warm beignets at the end was delicious. The steak frites was fantastic - beef was excellent and the frites were the best fries I've ever had. The service was attentive and consistent throughout the dinner. We were a group of 4 and everyone was pleased with their meal. We would go back in a heartbeat!
This is unequivocally the most imaginative local restaurant that I know in the greater Boston Area. People come here because they love the food, the service, the atmosphere. It never disappoints. This week's board for-two-sharing (duck) was delicious as was the chocolate and bitter orange terrine.
My husband and I found this place on Yelp based on reviews and decided to check it out for his birthday dinner. We are very happy we did as the food was delicious, cocktails were unique, and service was great. We would definitely recommend it as a great dinner spot!
Had a reservation, restaurant running late, warm, kind and informative about when we would be seated. Great waitstaff, timely service. The duck-board, duck served in (4) ways, each more inviting than the next, complex flavors and textures. The corn-chowder based sauce under scallops plate was delicious. The owner David came to talk with us, learn of our experience at our meal's end which was a perfect final touch. Strongly recommended for a special dinner.
