Sycamore never ceases to amaze me how they can be so creative yet simple with different food themes. Tonight was a celebration of local tomatoes. The various dishes were all very different from each other and used the tomato to achieve completely different tastes. Delicious and healthy feeling. The staff was expert but inobtrusive and unpretentious. A great night.
They had a wonderful wine pairing. Great food , great drink especially the Italian wines!
Celebrating tomatoes and summer coming to an end.
Spectacular all around. Nothing routine here. The kind of food that makes you appreciate what a lot of time, attention and savvy can produce. All happy.
Sycamore was the highlight of our family's Boston trip, no question. The service was impeccable - when I called in advance to ask whether it was appropriate for us to bring a 4 year old, they could not have been more welcoming and gracious. When we arrived, it was soon clear that we were in for a great night. Our server was extremely attentive, the support staff were wonderful and the space is gorgeous. Then the food! Every one of us, from my 4 year old son to my 74 year old father-in-law, loved every bite. The blue fish pate appetizer was especially amazing - I'm still kicking myself that I didn't order a pint to go. My Icelandic cod in corn chowder was one of the best entrees I've had in quite some time and the berries and corn sundae was an inspired dessert. They did such an incredible job showcasing the season's best ingredients in new and surprising ways - truly the best meal I had in Boston!
Food is excellent and the service is consistently great!
It is always a culinary treat to dine at Sycamore!
Fantastic food and enthusiastic server (Paul)! Thank you!
The food was delicious - lots of flavor and very fresh. The staff was attentive and helpful. Just a bit noisy - the space, not the staff . . .
We recommended Sycamore to our next door neighbors. They’ll be going tomorrow night. The Syc Picks tasting menu was fabulous—a real festival of pleasant surprises!
I was very disappointed with my experience at Sycamore. My wife and I went there last night and we were not impressed. First of all, the menu was very limited. We chose two starters, one of was the heirloom tomato salad and the other was charcuterie. The tomatoes were ok, but very overpriced. The charcuterie was not what you would expect from a restaurant. We were expecting a mix of cheeses, and meats on a tray. We received a small plate with three small pieces of salami, jelly spread, and a piece of chicken liver pate. We ordered the catalonian fideos entree and we couldn’t even finish it.
I’m all for giving restaurants a second try but we will not return to Sycamore.
The noise level is deafening in this small restaurant. You have to shout to be able to hear each other. We ordered a couple of apps and two main dishes. Apps were pretty good but the main dishes were not much to write home about. The lobster with pasta dish barely had any lobster in it and didn't taste very good. Order a $13 cocktail and it comes in a small glass with an enormous ice cube in it the size of the glass itself. Barely any liquid in the drink. Out the door for $120 before tip for two people. We have had significantly better meals at much lower price points. We won't be going back.
Always delicious. Wine list needs work to be as good as the food.
Loved it! Food beyond amazing as was the service.
We had the tasting menu, which we immensely enjoyed. There were several dishes I savored but the standout for me was the pasta dish, the casarecca di grano tostato. It was remarkable in so many ways—in its ability to both marry the flavors and yet allow individual ingredients to take stage, the smokiness of the mozzarella that both infused and informed the other ingredients; the pasta--oh, the pasta--fresh, perfectly cooked and complemented by a subtle yet present red sauce (and used sparingly--thank you!); the diced eggplant, adding one more texture and taste that complemented all the others. And the croutons--perfectly sized to add an incredible light opposite-spectrum texture alternative that completed the dish. Each bite was like a little forkful of heaven. The cocktails were outstanding—the "falerno!" for its wonderful heat and how it developed over the tongue with each sip, and the "don't touch my muddler" for the brightness of the fresh flavors. The zucchini chocolate taste might have been the moistest chocolate cake I've ever eaten. The service was outstanding, and we were fortunate to have had a very accommodating server who helped turn a bad day into an especially good one. We are already planning our next trip back.
We came in from California to help our daughter move in to BC. We were looking for a creative, farm to table type of restaurant nearby. Sometimes it's hard to tell from reading reviews on the net. Next time we visit you can be sure that we will come back to Sycamore! We waited less than 2 minutes to be seated. We were given a warm and sincere welcome. The grilled peach with halloumi cheese and the heirloom tomatoes and goat cheese were our favorite! We appreciated all the little details such as the pine nut brittle and fresh herbs on the grilled peach to add so much depth of flavor. Eating out in Los Angeles and where ever we travel is one of our favorite things to do. Sycamore is a gem. One place we'd love to come back to each time we visit our daughter in Chestnut Hill. Thank you for the wonderful experience!
Beautiful place and outstanding food. The waiter looked tired and bored. Maybe because it was Monday!!! ???
Food is delicious and the service is great. We stumbled in here one night, and decided to come back with friends 2 days later for dinner again. The tomato salad is amazing as is the lamb sausage. Looking forward to going back.
Went for a date night with Hubs, we decided to try the Syc Picks, (a real risk for me who is a little picky and only really eats beef/chicken). It. Was. AWESOME. There was nothing I did not like. Everything was fresh, delicious and plates were well paced. We were well fed and very happy to say the least. My only wish was that a beignet snuck its way into our dessert ...but I was too full to order anything more! What a fun date night spot. I would recommend the syc pick to first timers like we were.
Best spot in the Boston environs. Everything is excellent all the time. Return guaranteed.
Excellent service as well delicious cuisine. Newton south tomatoes superlative.
Really good cooking! The grilled peach and haloumi skewers, the corn fritters (or were they pancakes?) with pickled zucchini, perfectly cooked steak and zucchini chocolate cake with buttermilk ice-cream were all delicious. I can't wait to come back!
Reliably excellent. Tried the Syc Picks, the tasting menu for the table, for the first time. Great mix of dishes, all unique. Brought friends who were quite impressed. Service struck the right balance between helping as needed and not hovering. Great beers on tap, lots of wine options. Both somm reccos hit the spot. Will be back soon.
A truly wonderful experience and the best restaurant to celebrate my wife’s birthday with her family!! Thanks very much!
Creative, delicious food reasonably priced. Many options - something for everyone.
Sycamore is definitely a neighborhood gem with an incredibly creative chef. Perhaps too creative. My appetizer of a zucchini based soup was excellent. I ordered stripped bass for an entree and my wife had a pasta dish. The striped bass ( about 3-4 ounce piece ) was served in a cold zucchini /tomato based preparation which added nothing to the dish and toward to end of my meal made the bass mildly warm. The pasta dish was prepared with 3 or 4 additional ingredients including pork sausage that was somewhat fatty. Perhaps it could have been done in a less complex manner. Sycamore is probably a great restaurant for a true gourmet but not for our more simple tastes. The hostess was very nice; waiter was very efficient ( could have been friendlier ) but nothing compared to the snobbish couple at the next table... after all, this IS Newton ( sic ). In summary, worth a visit if only to try some very creative cooking
My husband and I decided to go out to dinner and used a gift certificate from s friend who heard good things about the restaurant. I was glad we were early reservation because special appetizer was great. We both order the chefs menu of several courses and were able to try quite an assortment of foods. I especially loved the pasta, the shrimp and then steak. Fresh herbs really made the food outstanding. Thanks to our waiter Paul and a great Chef.
We will return. Ann and Jim
Great overall experience.
Food was fantastic; creative, filling, but light.
Management and servers were delightful.
Are going to be regulars now.
Arguably one of my new favorite restaurants hands down. Give it a try you won’t be disappointed and their mixologists are on point.
Probably my 20th time eating here over the years. Sycamore is consistently as good as any south end restaurant. Amazing home made pasta, stellar cocktails and David is just the best.
My husband and I visited Sycamore for the first time last month to celebrate my birthday and we're returning next week to celebrate his! As soon as we arrived, we felt very welcomed, a warm vibe and the staff was totally on their game. It seems to be a great team who works well together. Food was outstanding with unique flavors and combinations. We're planning to visit more regularly!
Sycamore is consistently excellent. We eat there frequently and have never been disappointed. Appetizers, mains and desserts are all great, and the wine list excellent.
Great local dining. Creative and yummy dishes. Corn pancakes & anise ice cream were especially delicious!
I've lost count as to the number of times we've dined at Sycamore. It is our go-to dinner date restaurant and it never disappoints. The menu changes with the seasons, but keeps some of the old favorites (beignets with milk jam!) I'm especially pleased to see the number of vegetarian options increasing -- they are innovative and delicious. I'm already looking forward to our next visit. Thanks!
Excellent service and food. Wish there was air conditioning!!
Food is AMAZING! Seriously best meal i've had in a long long time. Highly recommend the sweet corn cakes and peach and halloumi spears. Service was excellent as well, was attended on the entire time by very polite friendly waiters.
Everything was great. I only gave four stars on the food because I ordered the sea bass and it had a couple bones in it, which creep me out. Otherwise, everything was excellent.
Sycamore is one of our absolute favorite restaurants. We almost always get the meat board because it is so much fun. Service was also excellent: took extra good care of us since it was our anniversary.
Great meal. Waiter Paul was very attentive, knowledgeable, and kind to my family. All the staff were fantastic. Best Fried Green Tomatoes I have had (especially for a restaurant not in the South) and the Stripped Bass Gazpachos was a great summer meal.
Highly recommend going to Sycamore
This is one of our favorite neighborhood restaurants with fun cocktails and creative dishes to choose from. The staff is always lovely and makes us feel welcome.
