At there with friends last Sunday. Butternut squash soup was tepid and, frankly, lacking in flavor. Sorry, but roasting and pureeing squash and throwing some herbs on top doesn't excite. How about adding some ginger and fennel? Food was decent. Coffee was again tepid. Asked for my expensive wood roasted olives to go and, even though I was positively acknowledged that they were going to do it, they threw them out. When I asked, the person who had said he was going to do it didn't have any memory of saying so. I think it is overpriced for the quality. Almost $200 for four people (3 had chicken), soup, a plate of olives, and NO alcohol. Doubt I will eat there again.
Love SY Kitchen. One dish was a little dry, and seemed understaffed -- slower than expected. But, that said, still a very special place to go. We'll be back
Gold beet salad was superb, as was brazino fish. Staff was incredibly attentive.
We are regulars at this venue. We made reservations for St. Patrick's day for two seats at the bar but when we arrived the bar was full. We never had issues with the hostess's in the past but this time we were not welcomed with a smile. Typically as we approach the door someone would be there holding the door open with a smile. This time we felt like we were putting them out. possibly because our request for two seats at the bar at 5:30pm could not be accommodated. Not a huge issue, we will continue to give SY Kitchen our business because everything else was absolutely amazing.
Amazing food, delicious bar drinks, and great festive ambience.
We have been there several times and it never disappoints. Creative menu, local ingredients, and superb staff. The octopus salad was the best I've had.
Host gave odd vibe upon entry. Could be more pleasant like rest of staff. Great waitress. Food and drinks were fabulous.
good ambiance, friendly service, food was good too. unfortunately, much too noisy inside for a romantic dinner.
Food was excellent as always. Love the creative touch on Italian food. The service was ok. I chalked it up to a Thursday evening.
Still my favorite dining in Santa Ynez.
Super cute place! We had the rack of lamb, which was the best that we have ever had. The artichoke appetizer was amazing and their version of a tiramisu was tasty. We also had a pasta, mushroom & sausage dish that had really good flavor, but I would have liked the pasta more done. Some bites were almost crunchy, maybe ask them to cook it more if that's not appealing to you. Also be aware that it is very pricey, especially the drinks. And if you don't want it to be too loud, come before 7 p.m. and it's very nice.
Always a standout and a gem in the valleys cap. Hard working committed brothers who run the kitchen and prepare excellent food. The staff make you fell like a friend who's dropped in for bite, and there is always someone to greet you at the door with a smile.
Service was pretty bad. Drinks were late. No napkins or utensils on table. Had to ask 10 minutes into our meal. A can of Diet Coke is $4 😳 overpriced!
Excellent food, unique menu
SY Kitchen is one of my favorite restaurants in the Valley. The food is always spot on and the service is always wonderful. The craft cocktails are unique and delicious and the atmosphere is great. I wish they had a little more room so patrons wouldn't be so cozy (lol), but I don't want them leaving the SYV so forget I ever said that!
All of the ingredients were incredibly fresh. What was lacking was flavor. Each of us ordered a pasta dish that costs between $24 and $28. The pasta was definitely fresh and made from scratch. However, there just wasn't any depth of flavor- we had to salt all of our dishes. For that price, we expected delicious. We also each had the special soup of the day: broccoli. At $14 a serving, we were expecting an nuanced, flavorful experience. Again, we were left reaching for the salt;
The cocktails were OUTSTANDING, as was the fresh bread served as an appetizer.
Unfortunately, we decided to skip dessert; we became more disappointed as the meal progressed.
Really great food
Although the food came out so fast that we weren’t able to thoroughly relax and enjoy the restaurant
Love this restaurant!!! Great Italian food and wonderful drinks. A lovely evening.💗
Always delicious—and now open for lunch!!!
Food was delicious and the service was perfect. We couldn't have wished for a better experience. We showed up a bit early, so as we waited for our table they offered to sit us outside next to an open fire and took our drink order. It was perfect for our date night, it aloud us to relax after our drive up from Santa Barbara, as well as enjoy our drinks, (I had a great red blend that was recommended by a very nice gentleman that was very knowledgable about the wines being offered, and it was perfect. As well, my wife had the Special Moscow Mule they offered on there drink menu and that too was on point.) We were sat at our table at our reserved time, and were met promptly by the staff. Megan, our server, was exceptional, super friendly and knowledgable about the specials being offered for the night and the regular menu. We ordered from both. We ordered an app, salad, pasta, and a main dish and two deserts. They were all simply delicious. Its easy to tell that all were made with the freshest and best ingredients and that they were made with both care and love. That is hard to find these days. I can't wait to go back, it is worth the drive and I'd would highly recommend SY Kitchen, as it will not disappoint.
:(The seating selection was poor so when we politely said we would go somewhere else (after they told us we couldn’t be seated anywhere else.) the girl said, Perfect! It wasn’t the main hostess it was another gal. I understand being stressed, I previously worked in the restaurant business, but it was not a polite way to handle the situation.
A most enjoyable meal with great service. This was our first time to SY Kitchen and we loved it. We will be back!
Excellent service and delicious food!!
Best in the valley by far!
Blake was an outstanding bartender. He made the visit very enjoyable. The food was very good as well. The Butternut Squash soup was the best. The pasta dishes were a bit on the 'al dente' side, so if you prefer a little more cook on yours you may want to mention that up front.
The waiter was informative and very nice. My husband and I had a delicious dinner for his Birthday!
Read about this restaurant in Sunset magazine so decided to try it. Definitely a great spot with very good food. Probably a top restaurant in the region of Santa Ynez Valley.
Amazing food in a very comfortable atmosphere. LOVED the Warm Octopus salad. Great experience!
SY Kitchen is one of the best restaurants in Santa Barbara County. The food and service are always superb. The atmosphere is high energy and the tables are close together. The tables near the doorways, especially the one with the swinging door, are particularly active with servers hustling to and fro. If that bothers you, request accordingly. Worth the drive over San Marcos Pass if you have a designated driver to drive you home!
Great food. Great cocktails. Great service. Would like to see a better selection of chardonnays at a price point of $60-$70.
Awfully loud and unable to enjoy our Anniversary dinner. The food was extremely bland with no flavor! The chef and kitchen was full of staff, so apparently the chef isn't tasting his food. I would not go back again. The busboy was the only impressive thing at this place!
It was great! Thank you, Andrew! Your are the best. We felt like at home. Super nice and friendly service and great food as usual. Thank you !
Phenomenal service and food!
Truly thought it was overpriced. Food was okay but not exceptional.
Always top notch! Excellent food Excellent service Excellent crafted cocktails! It is always a must stop for us when we go to San Ynez.
Do not go there on Fridays. Way too loud! You can not even focus on your food.
This is the best place we have eaten in Santa Ynez. We have had both lunch and dinner here and we have been very happy with everything we ordered. Bit on the pricier side but worth the extra money.
Our waiter did not know the whole list of the specials. We overheard them all only when other waiter talked to the patrons at the next table. Was too late for us to order any. Nobody offered us any proverbial “fresh pepper” with soups, salads etc. Our waiter was mostly absent and we got zero attention.
Unfortunately we did not have a great food experience. My pasta was not cooked enough and the sauce rather bland. My wife's dish which was a special was over cooked and lacked the wow factor. While being new to the valley, the restaurant came highly recommended, I just think it was an off night in the kitchen. The service was good and attentive and as two professionals who have been in the industry, we know sometimes you miss the home run. We'll be back to give them another try and I'm sure it will be better.
Exceeded all expectations. We made a reservation for a birthday & were so happy we did so.
Was looking forward to the octopus salad. They ran out. It just went downhill from there. I don't recommend this place. See my review on Yelp!
