Swordfish Ratings and Reviews
My wife and I have enjoyed numerous ocassions at swordfish. The artistry and creativity of the dishes always delights, as well as the consistently high quality ingredients. We love to experiment with sharing several of the platters and trying a different saki each time. Our Servers have always been helpful, knowledgeable and attentive. We view it as a local gem of a place and highly recommend it to those who appreciate fine sushi. Thank you!
Way overpriced! The waitress ignored requests, the food was average and masked by overdecorated plates to justify the cost (it cost $30 for one app and iced tea). Will not be returning. Try Ju Run down the road, it is better quality at a more reasonable cost.
We had dinner to celebrate family with my sister in town. The Chilean sea bass was good as well as most of the sushi. The sushi presentation was top notch. The only issue we had was with one dish where the salmon did not taste fresh. The service was good and attentive. We will return.
There's no shortage of Sushi restaurants in the Fox Valley. Swordfish is the best of the lot. Great food, atmosphere and presentation make this my favorite. They also have a full line of entrees if sushi isn't your thing. The best restaurant in Batavia. Highly recommended.
You must love sushi otherwise don't bother. As I don't, I found my choices very limited. The dessert was outstanding had a peach bellini (frozen peach with peach sorbet.) Had to ask for more water and offer empty dishes to waiter otherwise they sat on the table. The sushi dishes looked amazing and that is their speciality. Great place to go but you need to really enjoy sushi.
Had Christmas Eve dinner at Swordfish. It was a wonderful experience. We had excellent service - server explained various types of sushi, sashimi and other dishes which was very helpful to us newbies. Everything we ordered was beautifully presented, fresh and delicious.
The sushi was terrible. We have frequented this restaurant off and on over the years, and have alway loved it. I got the bento box sushi as I always do and it this time it was terrible - no taste, as if it had been sitting around for several days. I eat sushi all the time and this was definitely not fresh. I was expecting to be ill afterwards, but thankfully wasn't.
Excellent place to go for a special occasion. Wait staff very knowledgeable and helpful with a big menu. Special occasion because it can get pricey pretty fast but given the type of restaurant and the quality it was outstanding.
If you are not sure about stepping out and trying something a little different its a great place to go and you are able to be as food adventurous as you like.
Swordfish is a place that would be a very nice Date place or anniversary or any occasion you are looking for something out of the ordinary and special. The waitstaff and manager were very nice and wanted to make sure the experience was everything we wanted it to be.
Value was good, it is on the pricey side but the personal touch from the Sushi bar and attention to detail with the presentation was nice. The amount of food for the price was good, with the soup and salad that comes with dinner, I would recommend the Bento box to learn the various items. Take the menu slow there is a lot to see but don't be afraid to ask the waitstaff they do a fine job explaining things.
Overall a very positive experience, would like to go back in the future.
Excellent food, sashimi was great. The calimari kick appetizer is imaginative and delicious. For those who can't handle raw fish my wife highly recommends the Moon River roll. The Sexy Lady cocktail is also highly recommended. The space is also welcoming with very friendly and helpful staff.
Wonderful blend of the usual Japanese sushi restaurant - fresh nigiri sushi and sashimi, great and innovative maki rolls, and cold appetizers...plus super hot appetizers and entrees that you do not find in most sushi restaurants. Also very nice ambiance, a great choice for date night. Service is efficient and friendly. Overall a great experience!
Although we've been to Swordfish twice prior, it appears they only get better. My wife and I sat at the Sushi bar and was most professionally served by Gene. Gene suggested I try the Blue Fin Tuna, bottom cut which is much fattier and costlier. I did try and to my delighted surprise, it was the most tasteful and buttery textured sushi I've ever had. I also had my favorite, Uni with a raw quail egg. I also had the Samarai platter which was the incredibly fresh tasting arrangement of different types of Tuna. All in all, it was my best experience ever at Swordfish. If I had one complaint it was the hot sake, which was tepid at best. I did send back and they accomadated me by making the next bottle hot. I would recommend Swordfish to any advanced Sushi palate. That said, I would recommend an early seating to take advantage of the fresher cuts.
First, let me say that we have eaten at Swordfish many times over many years. The quality of the sushi used to be excellent but it has gradually declined over the years to just average for a suburban sushi restaurant.
Following our most recent visit, I was shocked to receive a call from the manager a few hours later to ask why we hadn't left a gratuity since it was not included on our bill. I informed her that it was indeed included (we had a party of 6 and a 20% gratuity was included), and she proceeded to argue with me. When she mentioned the total of the bill, I told her that was not the correct amount, and then she became confused and must have finally realized she had called the wrong patron. No sincere apology, just an "oh sorry" and she was gone. I was personally very offended, and would have at least expected a profuse apology. But more importantly, I feel the phone call itself was completely inappropriate. I work in a service industry and this is very poor customer service. A follow-up call to find out if there was something wrong with the food or service is understandable, but just to call and say why didn't you leave a gratuity is just plain rude. Granted, not leaving a gratuity is also rude in my opinion, but by definition a gratuity is not required, and a restaurant manager should be more concerned that the patron was unhappy. If that patron had just made a mistake in not adding a gratuity, then a sincere call about their experience is much more likely to make them correct the mistake then an accusatory call. I will not be returning to Swordfish.
Love this place. My wife and I come here alone to talk and have a impromptu date night. We also bring our teen son on occasion and he loves it too. We had his birthday here this past weekend. Atmosphere is very cool and not a Midwestern bar and grill. The chefs are amazing and so is the staff. Recommendations: lobster mountain, all specials to include miso soup and the pomegranate martini. Each visit is excellent.
The restaurant wasn't busy, almost no other people, but the waiter forgot my sake. He misquoted the market price for uni. Small complaints, I know.
More importantly, I found the sashimi average. The ebi (raw sweet shrimp) was small and I didn't like the unique way they deep fried the body, i.e. no batter. I ordered rather common types of fish and I would not describe the quality as "outstanding". The special roll, Crunchy Mama, was very good, but the caterpillar roll was mushy and tasteless. The appetizers were good...scallop wrapped in bacon and calamari kick, but the shumai could have been from a package.
Basically, the restaurant just wasn't as good as I was expecting after reading various review. I was underwhelmed.
