We used to love swordfish and hadn’t been in awhile. The service was slow although very friendly. The food quality just wasn’t what it used to be.
We love Swordfish
Love the new menu! Our servers May and Jackson are awesome!
Always good service and great food! Our favorite sushi place in the western suburbs.
Sushi is my favorite meal, so I am particular. Best sushi in Far west suburbs. It rivals and even surpasses some of the best sushi restaurants in Chicago. My other favorite located west of Chicago is Nabuki in Hinsdale.
Swordfish has consistently fresh and full flavored sushi along with and good size portions of sashimi (my preference) and nagiri. Excellent rolls too-try the baby shark roll, red dragon and oceans 13, just to name a few of the amazing rolls they offer. The ginger dressing is the best ginger dressing I have ever had. For sake, try the Drunken Snapper.
Ambience is nice and if u want more privacy ask for a booth. Also lots of fun sitting at the sushi bar and speaking with the chefs. They are always nice and happy to discuss the latest specials. Jenny is at the front desk and consistently makes customers feel welcomed and is genuinely interested in knowing if you had a great meal. She sets the stage for a great dining experience. Sometimes the restaurant is so busy that it might take a while to get your order, but the servers do their best while you wait. Make a reservation in advance. Enjoy!
Food took forever to come out and was just OK. Priced pretty high for a sushi place. Probably won't go back unfortunately.
Swordfish is a great place to eat, atmosphere is grand but towards evening the music gets too loud. we are not sushi eaters so we always order from the kitchen. Their dumplings are great but only four in an order. We generally have tempura shrimp with vegetables, adding two extra shrimp with each order, but we tried something different this time but didn’t care for it.
We will do back but only get our past items
Good food all around. Apps, sushi and entrees are all served quickly and good quality. No issue with drinks or service. Received complimentary two piece sushi as well.
new owner and new attitude...
staff ALL will visit your table
and ask how THEY are doing...
is the food good?
Chef greets you as always
Going back soon
Always great service. Food is also very consistent.
This is a favorite spot of mine and we are regulars for special occasions for my family. Relatively new ownership and feel the quality tapered just a bit bringing from a 5 to a four star. Service was good from our server and we were especially helped by the lady who seats and manages who has been the face of the restaurant for as long as I’ve gone there. I tried new rolls that were good but feel like trying to hard for unique combinations when the more simple rolls have been so good for so long. Well still keep coming back and it is still a favorite spot. Would like to see some more whiskeys in bar especially Japanese varieties.
Amazing food and service. Freshest sushi around.
As always the food and the service are great. I always have the sashimi bento box and it is always great. The poke bowl was also very good.
Always seems to be way understaffed in table service. Food presentation gone downhill over the years.
Our server was fantastic! Attentive, friendly and on top of everything. The food was amazing as always and we were even served complimentary edamame. Love Swordfish!
Owner came to table and made balloon animals for our kids. Loved the food and cocktails.
Swordfish has always been one of our favorites. The new management is making some positive changes with decor as well as adding new menu items. Chefs are extremely talented and food is so fresh!
Always enjoying going to Swordfish, such a warm greeting from all when you walk in the door. The fish is ALWAYS fresh and we’ve never had a problem with anything we order. Presentation is perfect, almost to the point of whether you should eat it but we do! :) The menu is quite extensive, many sushi/maki rolls to choose from but there’s something for every taste, even entrees. Ok wine list and creative martinis and mixed drinks menu.
Our only complaint is that during happy hour, you can’t order off the “happy hour” menu if you made reservations on OpenTable, only one or the other.
Love this place and they keep getting better! This last dinner was special as we celebrated a great report card with our daughter. She has not stopped talking about how good everything was and how nice everyone is there.
Terrible, looked like a cheap wedding buffet and smelled like a fast food Chinese restaurant. Place was empty and we were seated in the aisle next to the buffet and waited forever for anyone to even offer drinks. Will not be returning.
Very fresh seafood, great service
I haven’t been there for a while. I remember the food was pricey but actually good. However, the quality of service and food is awful. 1. The beef bento box was not freshly cooked. It was precooked and warmed up, the steak and vegetables was not eatable, it was hard a dried. My party of 5 ended up sick afterwards.
When I saw that have tables setup by the bathrooms, that should have been a sign
Not sure where the $ that are making us going to, but it is not in the food
One of our favorite places. Always great service and pleasant atmosphere. Good kid meals also.
Great place! We love the sushi here!
Swordfish has excellent Japanese food. The special fish salad that came with the Bento box was fantastic! It made our anniversary date very special!
Went on New Years Eve. Everyone was in a joyful mood, food was great, drinks were spectacular! We never have had a bad experience at Swordfish and love to go there.
Wonderful sushi. A little slow to get seated... Good soup and salad.
We live this place.
Fantastic Sushi!!!!! Thats all.
Good selection of fish. Great quality.
Reserve in the bar. Great experience.
Food, service, ambiance.... everything was perfect! Our new sushi spot!
Love this place. Really fresh and creative. Ask to sit in Dr. Jin’s section.
Awful... you would imagine since their name has swordfish in it that would be the star dish. It was so dry it crumbled and made me choke. Taste was bland and drenched in balsamic glaze and vegi’s were pungent.
My wife was a bit disappointed that there was only sushi on the menu (no tempura/no udon), but the specialty rolls we got were astounding. The spice level was excellent and the fish was very fresh. Absolutely would come here again thanks to the excellent wait staff and quick seating. The prices are a bit high for everyday dining but definitely worth it for special occassions.
We have been to Swordfish many times over the several years and always considered it in of the best sushi options in the area. Since we haven’t been there in a while we thought we’d go rather than try a newer place closer to our home. I was surprised... the experience was nothing like it was in the past. The salad and gyoza were just as amazing as they always were but the rolls fell well short of expectations and the young woman who waited our table disappeared for as much as 10 minutes at a time. To be more specific about the rolls, these were premium rolls but they were small and covered in more tempura crunch than the important stuff. It was like a mouth full of sand. Very disappointing. My fault. I skipped my number one rule when revisiting and old favorite... always check the recent reviews.
Really nice sushi and sashimi option, food was really good. Had a great server Mike!
Excellent service, ambience and food was delicious. Perfect place to celebrate my birthday every year. We love it :)
Not impressed. I had very high expectations of this restaurant. Our appetizer, soups and tea were all cold. And even after we received the soup back....I thought did they just microwave our soup. Because the table next to ours sent their soup back also. Then I was wondering if this was a new bowl of soup or did the waiter just give us back the other table's soup. The sushi was not flavorful and lacked umami. Very overpriced.
First we got there the whole place smelled fish. The table and the menu was so dirty and food was really bad. Did not taste good at all. Worst sushi I ate ever. So disappointed. Will never go back.
Always a pleasure to go to Swordfish!!!
This place has delicious sushi! It’s always prepared perfectly.
