Pear Bread Pudding
Caramel Sauce, Whipped Cream
Great service and wonderful cheese and chocolate fondue !
Beautiful room, poor food, average service. I expected more.
Good food, good service
Sigi was amazing and so knowledgeable. A true family fun experience!
Such a neat little restaurant for our first trip to vail! We will be back! :)
Reception was great, also the attention while eating, and awesome food
Our dinner at Swiss Chalet was fantastic. The atmosphere is great. The fondue experience is great. What a fun night with the family. I highly recommend it. The best part of the evening was our waitress, Sign from Germany. What a great personality, so warm and friendly. Don't miss eating here.
Disappointing. Since the restaurant was affiliated with the Sonnenalp, we expected a certain quality of ambiance and food. Swiss Chalet not only did not meet our expectations, it really was one of the worst meals we have had in a long time. Where to begin? The whole place smelled like cheese and cooking meats - there was no ventilation. I noted one table near a door, ended up cracking the door to get fresh air inside. Tables were crowded together. But really, the food was the biggest let down. We started with the traditional swiss salad - Gemischter Blattsalat. While the flavor was good, the presentation was nothing like in Switzerland. We had to go digging for the beets and potato salad. But the salad sadly was the high point of our meal. My husband ordered the veal zuricher - a classic veal dish we have had in Switzerland and other major US cities many times (it's his favorite). The sauce was bland with very little mushroom flavor - no nuance flavor at all -nothing like the sauces in the other places we have had it. And the dish was not hot. In fact, nothing was hot. The rosti potatoes were lukewarm and mushy - no crispy top. We also ordered the kasespatzle which was also lukewarm and disappointing. (The kasespatzle at nearby Pepis is much better in my opinion). The beef fondue lacked flavor as well. All in all, this place reminded us of a tourist trap (which may be what it is) - high prices and mediocre food. We expected so much more from the Sonnenalp. I visit Vail every year and this was the first time we tried this restaurant, and it will be our last. I hate writing negative reviews, but maybe this one will get them to up then to up their game.
Swiss Chalet is pretty good at best. I have had better meat fondue at La Fondue in Louisville. There is another, non-chain, La Fondue restaurant in Saratoga, CA which is absurdly better in every way than either of those.
The OpenTable description of this restaurant states the following:
Dining Style:Casual Elegant
Dress Code:Smart Casual
I would characterize it somewhat differently:
Dining Style: Disney Swiss
Dress Code: Walmart Casual
Won't be going back.
Food was amazing- service excellent... try the goulash soup and fondue- you won’t be disappointed - can’t wait to go back!
Loved it! We took a trip to Switzerland a few years ago and always try to find good fondue spots in the US. We got the racklette fondue and it was delicious. We also split a bowl of goulash as an appt because we were completely starving after skiing. Service was wonderful - we couldn’t have enjoyed our dinner more
The place smells like burning kerosene gas, and sour cheese melt. Considering the fondue was around 60$ USD for mainly bread and melted cheese, it was extremely overpriced.
Amazing atmosphere!! Terrific food
Always a great meal and experience. Waiter was great, I look forward to coming back soon
The fondue is the best!! Great for the cold weather.
The Swiss Chalet was a very good option to celebrate my birthday.
I would like to highlight the simphaty of our german waitress. She was just perfect, helping us with the choises of food, and being very kind with the hole family.
Always enjoy the raclette and also the cheese fondue as an appetizer- makes for a very special evening. Service is generally excellent and love the ambiance
Disappointed that the smaller appetizer cheese fondue was taken off the menu - the entree size was really too big for 3 as an appetizer and just means we order less raclette for the main course
Great place! Service was great, very friendly from the minute you entered the front door.
Loved the fondue! Will go back!
Great food. Service was good. A bit crowded and noisy.
Wonderful dinner, excellent service.
Love this place. We make it a point to come whenever we are in Vail
Great food & service! Always a treat when in Vail.
Excelente attention and very good food
We had a great meal and Sigi took good care of us.
Delicious! Expensive but worth it. Feels like a trip to Switzerland.
We had a wonderful dinner, our waiter Tyler, was especially awesome all night. Super fun dining experience!
The food: Cheese fondue was great. The bourguignonne was flavorless. Ramen packet had more flavor. Beef was low grade roast cut. Meal comes with 8oz of beef for 2 people. We had four so you would think that we would get 16oz of beef. Nope still 8oz but charged for double order. I think since we added on shrimp and chicken they thought they could skimp on the beef.
Price/Service: We understand the fondue experience is what you are paying for. A fondue restaurant doesn't have to hire help to cook the food because you do. They might say well there is a lot of prep. All restaurants have a lot of prep. With this in mind you would think they would be heavily staffed and attentive in the front of the house. Our server had at least 6 other tables and wasn't very attentive. My wife spilled her glass of champagne on herself. It took 5mins to get the attention of someone to help. The server asked if she would like her drink replaced. Later when the bill came we were charged for the second glass. I had to bring this to our servers attention that it is restaurant courtesy to replace a spilled drink free of charge. They did correct the bill but the problem was that I had to uncomfortably ask...
By the way don't let your kids get refills on soda. They charge $4 for every refill. Who ever heard of this for a product that costs them only 15cents.
Disappointment since we love fondue restaurants.
Scrumptious food. Great service.
beautiful decor and excellent service
Great food the cheese fondue along with the Racalette
The food was amazing, however service was not fantastic by any means. Had the service been better, I certainly would rate higher. We were seated quickly, but then had to flag down a waitress to order drinks and again when we wanted to order food. They did not come check on the table or fill our waters without us having to ask.
I am a Celiac and called ahead to see what was gluten free. They informed me that they had bread they made in house that was gluten free. I asked if they were sure that there was no possible contamination and was told “we’ve been doing this thirty years and no one has had problems.” That should have been a red flag because I ate their 10 years ago and had to bring my own gluten free bread. So if you are a celiac stay away from their gluten free bread.
The food was delicious and I have always enjoyed eating here. The server was awesome and very friendly and helpful. It’s not cheap but it is tasty.
Great fondue, like we get it in Switzerland! Thanks for the prompt service!
The food was excellent although a bit pricey for just cheese fondue. Very good service with multiple waiters looking after our needs.
Excellent wine list, BUT, extremely overpriced. Most wines were 4-6 times the retail prices at wine stores. I noticed that not many customers were ordering full bottles and we chose a low end malbec that was at least 4 times the retail price. Highly recommend the restaurant, but stay away from the wine list. Very tempting, but will put a nice dent in your wallet.
Service was great, food was excellent, and the fondue was fun.
We love Swiss Chalet. We’ve been coming here for years. Marko did a great job as our server. The restaurant has a very authentic European feel. Great food. Great service.
La comida fue muy buena como siempre. La atención excelente.
We immensely enjoyed the cheese fondue dinner, complete with delicious carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, asparagus, potatoes and baguette. Complimenting our meal was an excellent bottle of Austrian white wine. Service was great!
