Made Christmas Eve reservations a month in advance, with no notice of limited menu due to a buffet being served. Food was mediocre at best, over priced, entree only. ..everything else an add on. To top it off, we were required to pay a 20% gratuity to a waitress with an attitude. Big disappointment.
Hadn’t been there since last year for dinner before Festival of Trees. Last year was horrible and didn’t want to go back but had 5 of us meeting for the event again and decided to go to Sweet Waters. Still has funky old smell and carpet has worn, lumps but this year pleasantly surprised the menu seemed much better and there were other customers unlike last year. Our staff was friendly, couldn’t answer some menu questions because she said it was new but we managed.
Ran out of split sparkling wine.
Food took over an hour to get halibut, steak, chopped salad, pork chop and shrimp dish. Made us late for start of event, but glad to see made the have better kitchen staff for menu ideas but need more staff to get it out!! Price still a tad high for quality and the restaurant needs major renovation!!!!
We had a wonderful birthday dinner it was nice enough to sit outside with the added bonus of a heat lap after the sun went down. Best part of the evening was truly our server sierra !!! She was over the top helpful cheerful and just awesome!!
Not only did she have great opinions on food and drink but she recommended other activities for us to do for our weekend.
Positives: We were happy to have the ability to make a reservation for Sunday brunch & our view looked out onto the river which was pretty.
Negatives: We ordered 3 Spanish omelets which took 45 minutes to arrive and were cooked to rubber but barely warm when arriving. The roasted potatoes were visually appealing but flavorless (perhaps they had been frozen?) Neither the salsa nor chorizo sausage had flavor or spice (how is that possible?) We would not recommend this Restaurant’s food. Perhaps a place to have a simple drink on the patio?
We went here for a pre-birthday outing for my wife and have dinner on the deck overlooking the river. It was a warm evening and a nice table at the rail edge of the deck. We started with the Sweetwater salad a glass of Chardonnay and a glass of Cabernet. We held off ordering the main course for a bit and enjoyed the ambiance. My wife ordered the NY steak and I ordered the grilled salmon. It was a lot of delicious food but we ate all of it Our server Linda was a hoot.
Had reservations for 8:00 on Saturday night. When we arrived they told us a 5 minute wait, they were setting up the table. After 30 minutes, 2 more inquiries and stalking the manager, she told us she could seat us, but the kitchen was backed up. We left.
Sweetwaters was absolutely wonderful!!!! We had Calamari for our appetizer and it was scrumptious! We shared the Crab Cakes for our entree - to die for. They had a really nice wine list and we selected a Chateau Ste Michelle Sauvignon Blanc to go with our dinner - PERFECT! Our waitress was attentive and took great care of us. We would definitely go back when we are in Eugene again!!!
I hadn't been to Sweetwater's in quite a while. The crab chowder was delicious, but a little too much pepper. The mixed drinks were terrible. We tried numerous different drinks with no luck. The NY strips arrived and the fat hadn't been rendered completely and it was a bit gross. The white cheddar potatoes weren't that great. But the service was phenomenal. Truly great service but marginal food and drinks.
You dine at Sweetwater's to sit on their patio outside with the river flowing lazily by. Tonight the patio was full, so we were seated inside where the decor while comfortable does not provide the same ombiance as the outdoor setting. Menu seems to have changed in that there are fewer offerings than the past, still an okay selection for most palates. I had the calamari appetizer and the salmon salad. Calamari was tasty, a little chewy, but a large portion for an appetizer, the salmon salad was mediocare at best, greens looked tired and the salmon on top was a small portion. Have eaten at Sweetwater's many times over the years and usually quite happy with the setting, the food, and the service. Tonight was a dissappointment. The food was so/so, the service was okay but slow, the server need very people friendly. Hopefully this was just an off night. Will be back again for another try next time in town, else will be looking for some place new to dine.
This restaurant was it complete disappointment. Reservations were made over two months ago to celebrate our daughter's graduation from Law School. The restaurant was almost empty. We chose this location because of its position next to the river. Even with an early reservation we were not given an option to sit outside. Our servers we're rude, slow and ill-prepared for a group of 9 people. We often ran out of water and other beverages with no one coming to the table. Food took an hour and a half to arrive. Food was luke warm to cold. Nothing was served at the appropriate temperature. To top it off, I ordered a dish that arrived with nuts on top. This was not noted anywhere in the menu and I have an allergy to nuts. Had planned to celebrate with dessert. Left early to go to another restaurant to have dessert and celebrations. Restaurant was also not clean the carpet look like it was original to the building which had to be built in the 1950s. Would not recommend this restaurant to anyone with the exception of the health department because it probably needs to be inspected.
We had breakfast at Sweetwaters and it was enjoyable. I decided on the breakfast buffet because I like a little bit of everything. I especially enjoyed the scrambled eggs with ham and peppers. The sausage and bacon were of good quality and tasted great. The others in our party ordered off the menu and all enjoyed what they ordered.
We were in town to visit our UO student and take him out for a nice dinner. Unfortunately, he would have been better off eating on campus. Dated, dark, restaurant with dirty windows with what could be a very nice view and location right on the river. We were seated and then waited 20 minutes before we saw ANYONE. Finally we got some water and waited another 10 minutes before our server came to the table. She was sour and abrupt.....probably having a bad day. She took our drink order and as soon as we get uttered our last word she literally ran away. I wanted to ask about the soup of the day but no chance. 15 minutes later our drinks arrived and as soon as the drink hit the table, she ran away again! I wanted to order before we were left for another prolonged period. My husband got up and asked for a pitcher of water because no one ever refilled our water and we were thirsty. He also asked for bread because we were starving by this point and hadn't even ordered . Finally we ordered and our dinner came out all at once. Soup, salads, entree all crammed onto the table at the same time. She forgot our appetizers, so she went back and got those and plunked them on the table too! Food was mediocre. Service was horrible. Place needs a good cleaning. Find somewhere else to have dinner.
We like to eat here because the restaurant is cozy, noise level is low and it is quiet enough to carry on a conversation. The view is great and we love the deck in good weather.
Eugene, unfortunately, only has two restaurants on the river.
The salads are excellent. The desserts look delicious though we usually refrain from indulging.
We were at Sweetwaters for Easter Brunch. Our experience was wonderful, the food, service, view of the Mckenzie River was all above expectations. Our server Suzie was great! The mimosas delicious. And the smell of the air in the lobby is beautiful. Overall great experience!
We have been to Sweetwaters for many holidays in the past two years. Service is always friendly and prompt, and the food is spectacular. I rated a four for food only because the offerings vary from year to year and personal tastes impact that. We plan to continue to spend our holidays with the Sweetwater crew.
This restaurant was recommended to us as a very nice place overlooking the river with very good food, but pricy. It did overlook the river and was pricy. The menu was very limited and mostly pub grub. Nevertheless, we ordered medium rare burgers and the waitress had no problem taking that order. They came to us after a considerable wait well done. We mentioned this to the waitress and she told us that all burgers are well done for food safety. When we pointed out that we ordered them medium rare she argued with us. Also, there was a slightly mildewed smell in the restaurant that was disturbing. If we hadn't been so hungry we would have left before we ordered. Will not return.
My wife and I went to Sweetwaters for Valentine's Day dinner and were very pleased. We received special attention from the hostess, Ophelia. She started our evening off great. The bar was relaxing and fun and our server, Sarah, was terrific. So, even if the food wasn't outstanding, we would have loved the evening. BUT - the food was PERFECT!
We'll be back next time we are in town for dinner.
We went to Sweetwaters for Christmas Eve dinner. We had a lovely table and could see the river even though it was dark. Food was good, service was prompt and friendly. My son is a vegetarian and he loved the Ravoili!
He said it was the best he had ever eaten and he is from LA!
A very nice dinner for our family on a special occasion!
