A little disappointed with this dining experience. The open kitchen area promotes too much activity and noise for a peaceful meal. Plates were ok, varied selection but nothing especially jumped out at us. A little disappointed that one menu item (steak tartare) listed on open tables website wasn’t in the menu at the restaurant
Good and service very good. Dining room is a little too dark for my taste.
Jason, waiter was top notch. Food is outstanding
Excellent from cocktails through dessert. Definitely will return
Wonderful food and great dinner music!
This was our 3rd visit to Sweet Melissa’s and certainly won’t be our last. The small plates were amazing, fresh and beautifully plated. We shared the Caesar Salad, which was grilled, topped with delicious home made dressing and drizzled with truffle oil and grated Parmesan.
Our salad was great, rest was mediocre. The staff was super attentive but the food was pretentious with no interest to it. The octopus did not look like octopus - it was very odd, the tentacles were missing the "suckers" part of the octopus, and staff told us it came from Texas. The oyster special was deep fried in a great batter but lacked oyster flavor - staff told us oysters also came from Texas.
Everything was very good
We enjoyed the tapas menu for mussels, though they were quite small this time, the beet salad and the shrimp and grits. We split all of those as there was plenty to share. We then had the smaller plate of the cobia special for the evening which was also large enough to share. We will be back
We love Sweet Melissa’s! Good variety of menu items including small plates. We especially like the shrimp and Anson Mill grits, though our recent order for supper wasn’t quite up to par with the usual offering. (Different chef??)
Service was great! Nice place for lunch or supper. On-line reservations a plus, too.
Consistently our best dining experience on the island.
This is our favorite restaurant in SWF. The service is outstanding and the staff are perfectly familiar with the meal preparations and drinks - they provide excellent suggestions and guidance. The bartender is a true mixoligist and has some great specialty drinks - suggest more tequila options. Super cudos to Melissa for having half meals, which are excellent for diners wishing to try a cocktail, appetizer and dessert without wasting or over indulging. She even has half wine glasses for those that had a cocktail and wish to compliment dinner without over drinking. It is a special place to dine and well worth the drive from Naples.
I compare it to another amazing restaurant in Rockland Maine owned and chef operated by a Melissa - the one and only Melissa Kelley.
The food was outstanding! We started out with two small plates if bbq shrimp and grits and kimchi pork belly. They both had good flavor. We picked the scallops and the sirloin for our entrees. They had Pinot noir from Williamette Valley which is so delicious! We need our meal with a luscious flourless chocolate torte and mixed berry sorbet. Our waitress, Haley, was perfect and made our anniversary dinner so special. She has a great sense of humor and was attentive!
Food was very good and you have the options of small plates.
Noise level from open kitchen and no acoustics is VERY loud. Ask for a table in the little front room away from bar and kitchen. They also have a few tables (4) outside in a screened in patio.
Cobia and the blackened redfish were both delicious. The homemade ice cream was great. There is meat included in most dishes including the fish. My wife does not eat meat which greatly limited the options.
Wonderful place! Dinner was delicious. Classy but comfortable atmosphere. We fully enjoyed ourselves. Great place to dine for adults and no kiddies! Helen was extraordinary! We will definitely be back!
We loved it. The food was amazing. We loved having the choice to have a small or larger entree. Delicious and great service!
We have been coming to Sanibel for years and driven right by Sweet Melissa's. What little we heard was positive, so we just tried it. It is terrific! Fabulous, upscale dining in a comfortable atmosphere. Good wine list. Our server Brian was fantastic as well. Highly recommend this place!
The food was delicious, the service very good but it was not a good dining experience because of the noise. Main dining room is VERY LOUD. Would recommend patio or bar.
We were a party of 6 and had a really nice dinner at Sweet Melissa's. Inventive cocktail list, and menu options were terrific - wish we could have tried more. Some of the standouts were the fish stew, the tuna tartare and the pork belly. Everything was delicious!
This place was wonderful. Food excellent and service spot on. Don’t miss it if you are traveling to Sanibel.
Great food—one of the best fish dinners I’ve had. Very noisy.
Belle découverte culinaire à Sanibel Island avec un service sympathique et efficace.
I love that they offer a small and large portion for many of their offerings. We had a small lamb osso bucco and the seafood stew. Both were delicious with nice presentation. Our waiter was attentive but not constantly bothering us. It is one of our favorite places to eat on Sanibel.
A very nice restaurant with an imaginative menu. Everything we had was very tasty but there were a few little things that were not perfect, thus the 4 stars.
Very good find on Sanibel!!!
Overall experience was very good and the Food was amazing!
The only negative was that we felt a little rushed.
We were about 5 minutes late but they called us at 8:47 to see if we were still coming. We apologized when we got there and they said the kitchen closes at 9:00. So we hurried our order and they rushed it out. Food was as always great, but they pushed it in front of us. We have a home here, and understand how busy it gets in season, and workers want to get home, so don’t say that you will seat someone if they can not enjoy the experience. They made me fill guilty for being 5 minutes late from our reservation. Yet you can have a reservation and be on time and wait 15 minutes or so to be seated.
The best restaurant in Sanibel or Captiva...there are decent second choices and a couple of private clubs, but this is simply the best food available on the islands. We love the fresh ingredients, the service, artistic presentations, and most importantly, the overall experience of fine dining in a casual atmosphere. The owner/chef will typically try to spend a minute or two to say "hi "and her energy level and concern for quality is off the charts. Despite its popularity, the sitting is spaced sufficiently to actually hear the conversation. Can't wait for or next meal.
The food was amazing. Every course was exceptional. The Caesar salad, the shrimp and the mussels small plates and the scallop entree (all of which my daughter and I shared) were positively delicious! We chose to eat outside in the screened in porch with the vaulted ceiling for the quiet so cannot comment on the indoor ambiance. From what we saw as we walked to the porch area, the inside looked beautiful and we would definitely try that next time. The service was very friendly and efficient. The whole evening was a wonderful success from start to finish.
Excellent service and the food was outstanding. The negative for me was cost. Now, I usually don't get overly concerned with price when eating out at a higher end establishment but I have to say I was more than a little surprised when the price for my special pork chop turned out to be $50.00. This was $11 higher than the highest priced regular entree on the menu which seems excessive and should have been disclosed when the specials were described. The chop was delicious but way overpriced.
Sweet Melissa’s has become one of our favorites when visiting Sanibel. The red fish is truly some of the best prepared fresh fish on the island. Chef Melissa pays important detail in making the accompaniments such as sweet potatoes and green beans complimentary to the flavor of the red fish. The beet salad was exceptional too.
Sweet Melissa’s was great! Our waiter was fun. I appreciate that Melissa’s offers half portions on dinner entrees; this allowed me to enjoy a starter, entree and dessert! I would definitely go back when on Sanibel.
Great experience will be returning many times in the future.
My husband and I took our teen sons and were so happy with Sweet Melissa’s. My shrimp & grits & could not be beat in NOLA & my grouper was amazing. Our service was incredible. Highly recommended.
Great service and wine list. Very pleasant atmosphere with soft guitar player.
Best fish sandwich on Sanibel Island. Everything was fresh and high quality. We have never had a bad dish at this outstanding restaurant. Lunch is as superb as dinner. This continues to be our favorite restaurant n Sanibel.
Sweet Melissa’s was AMAZING! What a gem on Sanibel Island. The food was superb, the service impeccable and the cocktails and wines were fantastic!! If you are looking for a true gourmet experience, this it!!!! We’ll be back ....
We dined here twice during our 10-day vacation. It’s a favorite of ours. Their award-winning fish stew is always a must-have and my family swears by the escargot and beef tartar (which wasn’t on the menu this time around). Over the years, we’ve tried a majority of the dishes here and none of them disappoint. It’s a highlight of Sanibel Island dining.
Fabulous dinner at Melissa's. This is elevated comfort foods to unique dishes and desserts! Do not pass up on the shrimp and grits (amazing) and the house made selections of ice creams and sorbets! We will be back.
