Waiter was very informed about food choices, attentive without being overbearing. The food was delivered at the right time by kitchen staff. Water glass filled as desired without asking. Very enjoyable meal atmosphere.
Very good as always
This was our first visit and we will be back!! We chose the small plates menu and were blown away by the mussels, beet salad and the shrimp and grits. The duck confit was our least favorite. The service was great and the hostess came over several times to see if we were enjoying our meals. A good value for the price.
Waiter was great and the food outstanding. All of us did three small plates and everyone enjoyed everything.
My husband and I dined at Sweet Melissa’s for the second time in two weeks. We had excellent service, good food and enjoyed the guitar playing.
This was a belated Valentine‘s Dinner with my wife. We were greeted as we walked through the door and seated immediately. Jason, our waiter, was friendly and checked on us throughout the meal. He explained the menu and made recommendations. Even though the restaurant serves small plates to share, there was an option for larger portions for some entrees. We did not leave hungry. I recommend the fish stew.
Melissa never disappoints. We always include at least one visit to Sweet Melissa’s when we come to Sanibel. It’s possibly our favorite restaurant on the island. As we were finishing up, we decided we’re definitely coming back one more time before we leave! Wonderful place!!
Struggled to find something to order off the menu. Food was very expensive and small portions. Service was excellent, however. Cute place.
We always schedule a dinner here. Nice variety on the menu. Our server was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and cocktails. Nice outdoor patio that is screened in. Live background music makes for an enjoyable evening.
Great Valentines Day dinner. We had a perfect table. Music was lovely. The most amazing goat cheese cheesecake in history!
Perfect from the cheese plate to the entrees! Delicious interpretation on standard fare. Try the miso-glazed scallops or the Osso Buco. Amazing!
The food was excellent as usual. Our server, although friendly and knowledgeable was terribly slow without apologies. For instance, we waited almost 20 minutes after we sat down before we could order a cocktail. This continued throughout our dinner which ended up taking 2-1/2 hours.
The food at this restaurant never lets you down. The Frisee' salad is amazing. Cobia special is delicious. Cheese plate is a nice appetizer to share with the table. We visit this restaurant regularly while spending the winter months in Sanibel.
We are frequent guests at Sweet Melissa's. We dined there Saturday night and heard thru a friend that Melissa had lost her sous chef and that the food was not as good. Being such a fan, I was thrilled to be going there again despite what I've heard. Well. I have to agree. I will always be a fan but a few things about our experience were different then the many times we had dined there before.
1. Service... not great... the waiter didn't come to check on us for quite a while after we were brought our plates. We never got a refill on our water. Bread did not come out, we had to ask for it.
2. Food. I always get the grilled romaine and although the flavour was great, the dressing seemed a little too thick, especially compared to the several other times I ordered this. All very good though just different. The redfish I ordered this time around was a bit over cooked and the brown sugar pecan sauce was watery and clear in color not brown and a bit thicker like last time. Still ok flavour but different. the key lime bread pudding.. which is one of the reasons I go to Sweet Melissa's was really cold. I remember it being warmer before. I still the it all. lol
3. The wine. I have to say EVERY time we have ordered Sauvignon Blanc it arrived room temperature at best. They bring an ice bucket and it eventually gets cold but dinner is almost over by then. Thats always a bit disappointing. Unfortunately, it happened again this visit. Although the waiter could not find a champagne bucket this time, and instead, brought over a glass filled with ice and a splash of water and proceeded to pour it into the wine holder, splashing it on the centre of the table!! If that was our first time there, I would have been offended that such a nice place handled this so sloppily. I will still recommend it to friends and will go again. I just hope this review is read and some changes are implemented so that we can continue to rave to everyone in the island about our lovely sweet melissa's.
We have eaten at Sweet Melissa's 3 times in the last 2 months, and every time has been outstanding in all respects. We would recommend this restaurant to anyone who asks!
Good find on Sanibel. A little pricey, especially drinks. Grilled Romaine salad was large and we could have split it. Patrons were dressed nice but casual, no one wearing shorts.
Sweet Melissa's needs to have at least one vegetarian item on the menu. Melissa made up a vegetable plate for me upon request, but vegetarians would feel more welcome if the menu listed a non-meat meal or two.
Great food. Two different size of meal options, which is perfect for lighter eaters.Pleasant wait staff.
Dissapointed! After some great meals in Sanibel we were expecting the same here but from beginning to end they fell short. This place was uncomfortably noisy, so only go here if you enjoy screaming at each other. Our waiter was below par but found out later he was new. The real problem was the food. The chef is obviously trying too hard to be “creative”. The sausage special appetizer was horrible, probably should have sent back. The pretzel roll was so salty it was inedible. The “pork belly” was a block of compressed pork roast. The scallop entree was sent back, too salty. The bread was good, but even the dipping oil had too much salt. Over salting is a sign of a chef not tasting food and poor quality control or trying to hide poor quality food, either way it’s bad. The hostess did come over and offered a free dessert, but at this point we just wanted to leave. This seemed to be a busy popular place but I can’t imagine that they can continue to put out poor quality service and food to unsuspecting tourists expecting a special meal when you are paying premium prices. Don’t go, much better choices on Sanibel.
Yummy food! Love the small plates, half portions, and great salads!
Our party of four had an exceptional meal. We each had a small plate and a half entree and it was an appropriate amount of food. All were delicious.
We have not experienced such rudeness and arrogance by server in 14 years visiting the USA.
Fabulous creative dishes available as small plates--so you can try more than one.
Very nice restaurant. The fish stew is wonderful
We thoroughly enjoyed every morsel we ate at Sweet Melissa’s! Everything was unusual and extremely tasty! U will surely love this restaurant unless u r a picky eater. I had the tomato and watermelon salad and scallops w Brussels sprouts. My husband had Caesar salad and fish stew. Make sure to get reservations! For dessert, we split the flourless chocolate torte w sorbet. Yum! Yum! Yum!
Our 3rd time here. Always a wonderful meal. Food prep is very unique and delicious. Had the grilled romaine: excellent. Mussels: fabulous sauce and tender mussels. And the redfish which was superb. Nice restaurant for a fancy night out on the island. Very friendly service too.
6 different dinners, all were excellent. Server was extremely helpful regarding choices and whether to order small or large plates. Be aware it’s not inexpensive by any means. Great dining experience.
We have always eaten most of our dinners at SM's when on vacation in Sanibel and were disappointed this visit. The octopus was dry and tough, and the general quality of our dinners were far below what it has been in the past. Maybe we caught them on an off night. But it was enough that we cancelled our reservations for the remainder of the week, deciding to explore other options.
