Sweet Melissa's Cafe
Once again the best food on the island!! And our waiter was superb
Excellent evening meal, as always (lunches are great too!) Lovely place, attentive, professional staff. My scallops on citrus risotto was wonderful, the fish stew was delicious and copious, and the redfish too. We had shared the heirloom tomato salad with parmesan dressing to start out with, and the tomatoes were actually flavorful!
I had made a reservation for my guests and myself the previous afternoon through OpenTable (the only practical way to do it evidently), very straightforward, I reserved and was subsequently confirmed for outdoors on the screened-in veranda; the June evening was pleasant. When we arrived we were informed that there would be no seating outdoors, which was disappointing; more disappointing was the total lack of any explanation or apology, just a "them's the facts" response to our mildly expressed complaint. That's the only reason for an Overall 4 stars instead of 5.
Always top shelf
Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. The food was fantastic! I had the signature fish stew and it was terrific. My husband had the steak and it was perfectly prepared.
My husband and I travel to Sanibel every other month for dinner at sweet Melissa’s. It is our favorite restaurant and if it was closer we would be there once a week. Our servers were fantastic especially Frank with his wonderful and most helpful personality, he was the best ever!!! The food is some of the beat in Southwest Florida and they have so many fantastic choices it’s hard to choose. We love it that they have so many small plates as we love to share everything. Some of our favorites are the cheese plate, mussels are divine, scallops and all of their salads are to die for. It is a must try and definitely be open minded with their cocktails they always have something fun to try and great wine list as well. We will be back again soon!!
The service and food was fantastic. No problem recommending Sweet Melissa. We will be back
We have been coming to Sweet Melissa's for many years and enjoy not only her food, but the pleasant atmosphere and the service!
Our favorite restaurant !! Food is always delicious and service excellent. However we did meet friends for dinner and they reported that when arriving, they were not given a very nice welcome! Unusual for this restaurant - must have been a new host - but the wonderful meal convinced our friends to return!!!
We were there for lunch. Was difficult making a decision as the menu had so many wonderful choices. Finally....decision made....The mussels & frites were delicious...as was the BLT with green tomatoes. Save room for dessert...esp the goat cheesecake!
Waiter was great. Food awesome. Good value. Great atmosphere
Food was thoughtfully prepared and the service was smooth.
Food had no taste. The ambience was ok, but we were very disappointed with all four dishes we ordered
Service and food was outstanding. Highly recommend. We enjoyed as a location to have a nice dinner with friends.
Vacation date with my love...had the octopus and MAHI MAHI which were not overdone. Simple, delicious. Been here a few times while on vacation in Sanibel and that tradition is going to continue. Melissa is a culinary artist and her food is amazing...
Jason was great! We will definitely go back again!
We had an excellent meal. Everything was very good. I thought the octopus was outstanding. I’ve never had it so tender.
The food and presentation is consistently great. Helen, our server, has a pleasing smile and willingness to please.
Fresh, innovative, delicious food. Half portion option is nice
We thoroughly enjoyed our recent dinner celebration at Sweet Melissa’s! Salmon special with onion cream and bacon jam was delicious, and hubby’s scallops with cheese risotto and asparagus were tasty as well. Tomato salad special was also quite nice! Service was very good, as were the wine selections. We appreciated the choices of small or larger size amounts. A lovely evening!
Great evening! Outstanding food, most unique menu on the island. Chef was amenable to flexing shrimp for scallops in a dish. Great cocktails, full bar- not something all restaurants have on sanibel. Service was absolutely delightful, live music was on speakers on screened in lanai surrounded by lush foliage. Chef Melissa is doing great things with food on sanibel island!
Service and food were very good.
Went back a second time and was equally satisfied. One member of the party felt the shrimp and grits and her scallop risotto needed more flavor. Everyone else was delighted. The fish stew is to die for! The small portion is plenty and the broth is sublime. Equally fantastic were the goat cheese cheesecake and the coffee martini. Will definately make it a must for my yearly Sanibel visit.
Diverse menu and wide variety of small plate and dinner choices. Appropriate for foodies. Well stocked bar for wine and cocktails. The heirloom tomato salad was delicious, the seafood empanada was perfect and the seafood stew will bring you back. Tip: the smaller portions of the dinner entrees are plenty.
Service was very good. Food was fair and expensive for what we got. Appetizers were okay (oven roasted cauliflower and heirloom tomato salad). These were the best part of the dinner. My wife had tasteless seared scallops and risotto. I had the special which was cobia fish. The fish was under cooked (if I wanted raw fish I would have gone somewhere and gotten sushi) and had to be cut with a knife. It had the texture of a thick pork chop. Definitely won’t be back. No Michelin Star for this chef!
We discovered Sweet Melissa's on our anniversary getaway last year and loved it. We decided since we were returning to Sanibel again we were going back twice during our stay and we were just as pleased.
There was some rotted sections in the interior of our grilled romaine. We told the waiter but he just said “thank you for letting me know”. He never offered us pepper for our salads. Two of the specials we wanted were sold out. The one special order which was some type of fish was dry. The restaurant was very loud and we were all disappointed for what we spent. We had been there twice before and absolutely loved it! Probably will not return with our next visit to Sanibel.
Excellent service (Brian) & food. Will definitely return.
Three had scallops - delicious! One had steak: it was tough cutting with a knife. .
Had a super BLT at Melissa’s and a delicious jalapeño watermelon margarita to go with it. Could not be better. Our waiter, Ronnie, was great and super helpful. He convinced me to have the sandwich as is, which included green tomato slices. Now I only want my sandwich with green tomatoes. So good. The bacon was the best I have ever had. What a delicious and fun place to go.
We try to get to Sanibel every year and plan dinner for our last night there as we always find it to be a special evening well spent.
We frequent this restaurant for special occasions and for when we want to treat ourselves. Although it was a little noisier than usual, Brian provided excellent service and the food was delicious. We enjoyed the new menu options, particularly the duck.
Great food. Great service. Unique and delicious drinks. I would definitely come back.
We read an article about the restaurant and decided to try it. It exceeded our expectations. The food was amazing. The service was amazing. We will definitely be back.
Always great. Great food, great service, nice atmosphere
Being spontaneous, we have had difficulty getting a reservation during season. But, now that the snowbirds have headed north, we had no problem. We love this place; it's our favorite on the island. Melissa is so creative. The house wines are good and inexpensive. For our starter, my husband and I shared a cauliflower salad which was unusual and very, very good. It was served with hot bread and olive oil for dipping. We love that you can order small orders since we don't eat as much as we used to. My husband's fish stew was as enjoyable as ever (it's his go to entrée) and even though he ordered the small portion, there was enough to take some home. Melissa's creativity was evident with my small portion of cobia, served over lentils. It was really delicious. We topped it all off with an order of beignets which I enjoyed with a decaf cappuccino and my husband a cup of coffee. The beignets were delicious served on a raspberry sauce with chocolate dipping sauce. Who needs to go to New Orleans!
Sweet Melissa’s was a wonderful dining experience! Our waiter was accommodating , friendly and very personable! I would highly recommend this restaurant!
The restaurant was empty and we were given a table right next to the only other patrons, a party of four who were carrying on a fairly loud conversation. I never understand why restaurants do this! The server was alone and although it wasn’t busy he seemed incredibly rushed and cranky. Maybe result of personal events or just lack of sleep. Food...... was disappointing considering the reputation of the chef, with lack of seasoning and potato salad that tasted like left over mashed potatoes. Too bad. I guess I was expecting more. And unfortunately that evening I became sick with digestion issues. (Could have been the potato salad)
Fav place on Sanibel
The food was all very delicious, loved the small plates that allowed us to sample a variety of dishes. Loved the cauliflower and the empanadas. Nice wine list, and excellent friendly service.
