We dined here the last night we stayed in Vail. What a nice way to finish our trip. Sommelier was knowledgeable, server was friendly, ambience was delightful for a perfect night out.

This was our favorite of the 5 spots we had dinner. The portions are small but ample and you do not leave the table hungry. It is worth going all the way through to dessert as they are also not large. Everything was very unusual and innovative. The scallops and the filet mignon were sublime and it is not easy to make those interesting...but they did!

Wonderful servers who basically choreograph themselves through the diningroom. Fun to watch.

Overall, Sweet Basil is a first rate restaurant - very nice interior design, high quality and slightly casual service, and top-quality food expertly prepared and nicely presented. It is not cheap, but the prices seem reasonable considering it is in Vail and similar prices to upscale restaurants in other cities. They have an extensive - and expensive - wine list. (Try a wine by the glass: good wine, decent price.)
We ordered the "paella" (with Gnochi instead of rice), the pork chop, and a Monkfish that was on special. All were outstanding, but the pork chop stood out...it was simple, not a lot of sauce or overwhelming flavoring, but perfectly done.
Only half-negative comment is that there were more, louder, kids than I expected.

Food was better than meal had following night at Larkspur. Oysters were sweet and delectable. Seared foie gras was huge and very tasty. Colorado lambchops were perfectly done. Waitress was extremely pleasant and engaging and added much to the meal.

I had read in advance of coming to Vail that this was the best restaurant. We visited about 6 great restaurants over a 5 day trip--this absolutely was the best. Luckily I had made a reservation well in advance, as this place is extremely popular. The food was outstanding and the wait staff were great. My wife and I really enjoyed our dinner and appreciated the great location in the heart of Vail Village.

An overall fantastic experience. The menu is diverse and the food very flavorful. The stellar wine list along with top service and a very lively scene makes this restaurant very difficult to beat in the vail area

Overrated. Food was overpriced and just fairly plain for what you got. All four of our group agreed. Russell's had better meals, and not just on a price issue.

The food and presentation are outstanding, however, the experience was negatively impacted by the overly solicitous service. I don't need to be asked 8 times how everything is. And, the host and manager each came by and stood by our table waiting to see how everything was while we were deep in a serious conversation. It was intrusive and impacted the overall enjoyment.

Very good restaurant with good food and fairly attentive service. We went as a Valentine's lunch date, with Sweet Basil as a destination. If you don't know Vail Village, just getting to the restaurant can be a hassle. There is no nearby parking of course, and we couldn't find the lot that offers two free hours so ended up paying $20 for parking. Not a big deal, but it brought to mind that everything in Vail is designed to be convenient for those staying and vacationing there, and not so reasonable as a lunch or dinner destination. The area is very beautiful and the ambiance at the restaurant was great. Overall an enjoyable experience.

Menu was fun. Pork, Lamb dishes excellent. Seafood 'ok'..... a little 'milder' in flavor than I prefer. The veggies that accompanied entrees exceptional..quinoa, green beans, greens. The salmon-teriyaki did not appeal to the folks at our table but maybe just a preference 'thing.' Would DEFINITELY return!

The food here was about as good as we've had anywhere, including the French Laundry and some of the best restaurants in Manhattan. The wine list is also outstanding and very reasonable. What keeps this from being a true 'fine dining' place is a very busy and loud bar scene, very casually dressed diners, and being a very busy place the attention is not there like it is in the finest restaurants. That said, food being most important was as creative and well done as we've ever had.

We had a lunch break during our skiiing activity. My wife order the chili special for that day and I had the pork belly sandwich. My wife had to return her chili since it was a bit salty. My sandwich was also bit salty. Overall the place is nice, quiet and good food presentation. A bit pricey for lunch.

Top notch food and service. The menus was inventive, the food scrumptious. I only wish this was in NYC so I could come back soon. If your in the Vail area it's a must go. But tough to get a reservation.

This was our third time at Sweet Basil and so far every visit has been better than the last. The staff are friendly and attentive, the food is amazing and the wine list has something for everyone. I opted for the filet mignon which was so perfectly cooked it nearly melted in my mouth. My fiance opted for the lamb chops which he loved. The sommelier even took the time to track down the perfect dessert wine to go with my french toast ice-cream. This is one Vail restaurant definitely worth the price and we will continue to visit on every trip!

Sweet Basil is one of the most sought-after prime time reservations in Vail Village. Open Table scored us an early reservation while driving in to Vail from the Denver airport. The food is over the top, the wine list extensive, and the patrons eclectic. At dinner, one of the 3 sommeliers on duty that night recommended a new wine to me, which was a perfect fit, and I have since ordered some for my stock. The food is exceptional, and as mentioned the wine list is excellent. All in all, Sweet Basil may be the best in Vail!

We first tried the Sweet Basil on our first anniversary. We returned 24 years later for our 25th anniversary and were treated like royalty. The food was beautifully presented and was a delight on the palate, especially the fresh oysters. The service was amazing! Congratulations to Sam and his staff. They made our evening more than memorable. They made memories that we'll have for the rest of our lives.

The restaurant acknowledged that we asked for a somewhat quiet location but then they seated us at a location where a family with noisy kids sat down about ten minutes after we were seated. This ruined the entire ambience for us and all the diners around that family. Another instance of spoiled rich brats.

I have wanted to dine at Sweet Basil since I moved to Vail two years ago but was waiting for a special occasion as it is an expensive restaurant for a 20-something. The wait was worth it! The service was great, our waiter was not too friendly but did his job well. The FOOD is what it is all about. The veal sweetbreads was a flavor explosion, definitely recommend. The scallops and lamb were perfectly cooked. Simply delicious.
