this is the best restaurant in Vail. great cocktails and a decent bar scene food fresh and well prepared
unfortunately, when we dined here, 12/11/17 Vail was dead, no snow, many cancellations
even so restaurant was fairly full
Craig was a excellent server, and the food was fantastic!
It was such a great experience on our honeymoon! The food and atmosphere is perfect for such a great occasion
This is the BEST Place in all of the Vail/ Beaver creek area!!! Great every year when we come for our weekend get away...
My husband and I had a wonderful dinner at Sweet Basil. Our server was exceptional.
Delicious food - great service!
Sweet Basil is right on the pedestrian mall in Vail Village. Lot's of restaurants around, but this is a special one: Waiter was very attentive, explained specials well, chilled our wine! Varied menu, reasonably priced, remember we are in Vail Village. We also visited their sister restaurant, Mountain Standard and it was great, too, overlooking Gore Creek.
One of the best restaurants in Colorado. Exceptional service. Exceptional food. Bar area where you enter is very active and very loud, and the dining area is also very active and always busy. But those are the signs of great establishments. We were there for their 40-year anniversary. East to see why this restaurant has been around for so long.
Made reservations in advance and requested a specific windowside table when I stopped by in person earlier in the day. However, table request was not accommodated. Food was very good and portions were ok but not huge. Reasonable prices for Vail. Excellent tableside service.
A fabulous lunch while visiting Vail. Everthing was excellent. definitely go.
Delicious food, a bit overpriced for the portion size though.
I have been raving about the gnocchi ever since my lunch with a friend earlier this summer, so when I saw that restaurant week was coming up I made sure to make a dinner reservation for my husband and I. I wanted my husband to experience, the "little pillows" (my term for the gnocchi). We started with the gnocchi, so light, hence the pillow reference, in a wonderful tomato sauce. We also ordered the oyster special (a dozen oysters) and were not disappointed (we're from the east coast and it's tough to get good seafood here). My husband ordered the lamb shank in a harissa sauce and it literally fell off the bone. I had the barramundi, which was done perfectly. We had a bottle of cab franc to accompany our meal. While the desserts looked interesting, we decided to pass and leisurely finish our wine. The servers are well trained and work together well to make an enjoyable experience for the diner. We most certainly will return.
My husband and I went to Sweet Basil for our 10th wedding anniversary. To say we were disappointed would be an understatement. Our server was far more concerned with the table of 5 behind us to even introduce himself. The pork tenderloin my husband ordered (which was said to be cooked to medium) was so over done and dry that it took him several minutes to chew one piece. I was hoping for a quiet, intimate restaurant where we could share some conversation and reminisce but it was so loud that we barely spoke to each other. When we did try to talk we had to practically yell just so we could hear ourselves over the noise of the restaurant. We didn't linger for dessert or anything extra, we both just wanted to get out of there to the quiet of the outdoors. It was an epic bummer.
Wow! We did it right with four courses and a nice bottle of Silver Oak. It has been a long time since we we have enjoyed the food at a restaurant as much as this meal. Absolutely every course from the oysters started through the Tomato Tower salad, to the entree and desert were all perfectly prepared and served. Our waitress Amanda made the evening special and was a true professional. Would highly recommend to all.
The meal was cold, the service was just so so, very loud and the food was very mediocre. Been there many times but it's gone down hill. Maybe lunch but never dinner again!
We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and the ambiance of Sweet Basil.
We were seated in the back part of the restaurant with a stream view.
The oysters and Bavette steak were outstanding! Fresh ciabatta bread and the sticky toffee dessert divine.
Autumn menu delighted. Cobb salad was 5 stars with a fall explosion of delish going on perfectly balanced apples against delicious cheddar. The squash and toasted pumpkin seeds added fabulous flavor and texture and THE DRESSING! Spouse ordered the fish tacos...WOW! We will go back during this short visit.
Great food, outstanding service, consistently great place to eat!
Every bite delicious
Creative, delicious plates! A pleasing palette experience!!
One entree was missed and it took 30 minutes to get it served after the other meals.
Excellent food! Great combination of flavors, will come back.
Sweet Basil has been the Vail market must dine restaurant. We have been enjoying exceptional cuisine and service since the late 90’s. A superb wine list for perfect pairings is available. After an exquisitely presented dinner make sure room is left for the Sticky Toffee Pudding with a glass of Tawny Port. Pure heaven.
We drive up a couple times a year from Parker and always choose Sweet Basil for lunch. Top notch from start to finish.
Overall it was a disappointing dining experience and not what we expected. The ambiance is modern and it is busy, but the service standards need to be addressed with management.
We had an absolutely delightful evening. Our waiter was FANTASTIC. Super knowledgable and understood that we didn't want to be rushed so he served appropriately. My daughter ordered the salmon and although the flavor was good the inside was still a little cold and raw. We should have sent it back but felt everything else was spot on. My daughter who is pregnant asked that the bar staff make her a nonalcoholic drink and they made her a very tasty and refreshing drink. Thanks for another great evening at Sweet Basil. We will definitely be returning next time we are in Vail.
This is simply the best restaurant in Vail Village. Always innovative and delicious!
They have some new items on the menu for the Fall that were wonderful. We were having a birthday lunch and everyone raved about their choices. The Jasper Hill Cheddar Fondue was amazing. I had the Gnocchi Pomodora as my main dish....Fabulous! They blend favors together so well!
The best meal we've had in ages. Our waiter was excellent in describing the entrees and giving recommendations. The food was creative.
Sweet Basil was the perfect place for a date in Vail. The waiter was great as he explained all the options to us and helped us navigate food and drink options. My spouse has a nut allergy and it was apparent that was clearly communicated by the waiter to other key staff members.
Great dinner as always! Service and Food was excellent
My favorite restaurant in Vail! Amazing food, creative dishes for every taste, great wine selection and impeccable service.
we went to SB twice this summer. I'm in Vail a few times a year, winter and summer and SB is always on the A list. always great.Maybe because it was late in the summer and the town was dead, but it wasn't as good. Maybe the A team was off on vacation but the two times we were there the food wasn't as special. My daughter has a large gathering there and she told me the same thing.
We chose Sweet Basil for my 60th birthday dinner. It was so great, from the grilled octopus appetizer to the shellfish pasta, the best I've ever had. They seated us at a table right by the window. It was great. Thanks to Amanda for taking good care of us.
As always a fantastic dinner, superb service, Never disappoints
Whenever we are in Vail Sweet Basil is a must visit for dinner. The food and wine are great and the staff is friendly and knowledgeable.
Sweet Basils has always been a very popular spot in Vail and I simply don't get it
We returned after many years and now I remember why we stopped coming to the restaurant. It is still too loud when it gets busy. Service is ok but there seems to be a "Sweet Basils" attitude which rests on the days of old while they are celebrating 40 years in Vail Appetizer..Corn Chowder was very good but our main courses were average at best so really not worth the price they charge With so many other options it is baffling that Sweet Basils remains so popular
Great food - the charred octopus was fantastic. Great flavors.
Our reservation wasn't found when we arrived and the gentleman who proceeded to seat us said that it is no big deal, perhaps you booked another Sweet Basil restaurant, blah, blah, blah. I'm not stupid. I know I booked the right restaurant and had a confirmation call from the host just a day before. Not a good way to start the night. Plus I had put notes in the reservation indicating a special occasion and nothing was acknowledged.
Our server was also very rehearsed and never smiled once. It was definitely not a warm & fuzzy experience.
We used to live in Vail and have been to the restaurant several times. We are also both in the industry. This was a very disappointing experience.
If you're a person that enjoys spend a lot of money on terrible food then this is the place for you! Feel free to treat yourself to rude service and cold food!
Go here. Dishes and cocktails were awesome. Service was top notch.
