Sweet 27 Bar and Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Sweet 27 is a rather unusual restaurant. When walking in the door, ambience wasn't very inviting. The space was dim and rather loud. However the host was convincing so my party decided to give Jamaican/Indian fusion a try. The food was amazing! I had the bombay chicken. The sauce was creamy but not overly heavy. The chicken was tender. The rice and salad were nice too. The portion sizes were also about right which is rare. I'll definitely be back.
Sweet27 was AMAZING!! The food was outstanding and GREAT value!! Service was very prompt and courteous! The vibe was hip but laidback. My friend is gluten-free and could not believe the menu options!! This was an after work meal overall wonderful. The décor trendy but with a nod to Baltimore history!! I could keep going on and on....
Let me start by saying that I am 100% NOT gluten-free. For me, gluts-free usually means a meal that either tasters inferior or costs more. The first time I ate at Sweet 27, I had no idea initially that it was a gluten free restaurant. But, my buddy who was with my happens to have celiac disease (and yes, our conversation with the waiter did start with my friend looking like an idiot, asking what gluten free options they offered,) so we stayed. And, we were both blown away. Food is great, as is the atmosphere and the food.
I had an old friend visiting from out of of the country and he only eats gluten free meals. Most restaurants had one or two options so to be able to find a completely gluten free restaurant and bakery attached was awesome. We enjoyed the pan seared salmon over fried plantains with a salad on the side, garlic mashed potatoes and some Pinot Grigio. Afterwards, we stopped by the bakery and bought some chocolate chip cookies for his trip the next day and I enjoyed a cheesecake dipped in chocolate. The entire meal was very reasonable, we loved the murals on the walls and our server Jill was very attentive. I look forward to visiting again very soon!!
We were looking forward to. An allergy friendly/vegan meal as advertised but all the food we ordered was extremely spicy to the point we couldn't eat it!! We sent one dish back but by the time we got someone's attention and the new meal came it was long after the others had "finished" - that's in quotes because they barely touched the over spiced food. Very disappointed!!!
Lovely little restaurant a bit off the beaten path (or at least it seemed it to us out of towners!)
We specifically went there because they advertised gluten free/dairy free options and we were not disappointed. All that we ordered had a bit of an Indian influence and topped it off with French pressed coffee (yum!) and split a piece of gluten free cake which I'd give a B+ -- It was fun to venture out from our meeting venue and find something other than the typically big box restaurants serving the same old/same old.
Sweet 27 is amazing! There are tons of different menu items that suit everyone's needs. Perfect for my meat loving husband as well as vegetarian items for me and my daughter. I got the cauliflower manchurian that was out of this world. The service was awesome and personal as well. Can't wait to go back.
All of their food is a Must Try, everything is uniquely prepared with just the right amount of seasonings and flavor. I love the Caribbean and Latin fusion of flavors and menu choices. favorite dishes are the garlic tomato shrimp, the plantains with black beans and any taco. No to mention their desserts are amazing.
Sweet 27 is our neighborhood staple. The gluten free menu is phenomenal and the quality and flavor of the food is exceptional. The food is what keeps two non-gluten free people going back for more and more. The sweet potato fries are the best I've ever had! I've never been disappointed with a menu option. Pizzas are still available from the cafe side of the restaurant and are amazing. Also, you must get dessert!
As a recently diagnosed Celiac finding Sweet 27 was just what the doctor ordered. The food is divine and the manager/owner is so accommodating and personable. The food ranges from indian to mexican to american so every appetite is welcome. Even my husband who is not gluten free said it's in his top 10 favorite baltimore eateries now!
We will definitely be going back!
We received wonderful service while at the restaurant and our waitress was able to recommend menu options to all of the guest that accompanied me. The appetizer of fried calamari and sweet potato fries tasted amazing. The chipotle may dipping sauce that accompanied the fries was so good we ended up using it for the burgers that were ordered. Unfortunately the main course I ordered, Bombay chicken, was not as flavorful as the appetizer. While the food tasted good I expected it to have more flavor and it didn't which was a bit of a disappointment.
Perfect attentive but not rushed service. Nice wine list, and ask the waitperson about cocktails as they have a wonderful take on a Manhattan . The special was a whole porgy fish which was very tasty if not meaty. However the portions are large and enough to share. The sweet potato fries are fabulous. Coffee afterwards was a surprise with each order a separate French press. It did get busy by 700 and packed by 800. Would go again in a second.
My wife is gluten and dairy free, and the entire menu provides her with many choices. The special "potato fries" are outstanding, and the waiter even discouraged me from ordering a side salad since there was one on the entree plate!
We both had the salmon with plantains which was outstanding.
For dessert we stopped by their connected store for gluten and dairy free cupcakes - wow!
We took 6 of them home!
Enjoyed our birthday dinner there. Prices were reasonable and the food was good. Were a little surprised that they didn't allow us to eat our birthday cake we brought in - especially since we had called ahead of time and asked if it was okay. Apparently because the cake wasn't gluten free, we were not able to use the utensils. It would have been nice if the person that we talked to earlier in the day had mentioned that. Aside from that, all was good.
We liked this place quite a bit. All of the food was delicious, and we loved looking at their mural while we dined. I felt like the food was a notch above the ambiance, which made for a kind of strange juxtaposition, but you could also say it has the best of both worlds. I plan on taking some of my vegan/vegetarian friends here as I think they would appreciate the selection.
In our group, we had gluten-free people, vegans, and a child with a nut allergy. Our server went out of his way to make sure everyone got exactly what they wanted and was really careful to make sure the child avoided anything with nuts. From appetizers to desserts, it was one of the best restaurant experiences we have ever had.
We decided to try Sweet 27 for an early Saturday dinner after a long day of hard yard work. We sat at the bar, had a great conversation with the bartender/owner about its history and upcoming plans for Remington. The menu is varied without being overwhelming and the flavors were well done. Specials every day and happy hour beers, wine and rail drinks are $3.50.
We will definitely return - soon!
I have been here a few times. They have a great menu with a variety of american and asian inspired dishes. Everything is gluten free, including their amazing cupcakes. They are also very accommodating with other dietary requirements. I have a friend who is vegetarian, one who is gluten free and myself, who couldn't eat dairy for a while. This was a great restaurant for us! On top of this the food is delicious. The crab cake burger is good, the tacos are delicious and their drinks are good too.
This was even better than I'd been hoping for. I'd reserved a table for girls night; the four of us ended up staying for 3-1/2 hours! I love the neighborhood charm and eclectic decor and menu. The bartender crafted a special cocktail for me when I told him I liked gin; it was delicious! We had the fries, and a goat cheese appetizer to start - both were scrumptious - and I had the duck curry for dinner. Yummmm. Although I think my one friend "won" with her Bombay Chicken. It was the best at the table! I look forward to returning to try all the other dishes!
