SWB @ the Hyatt Regency Austin Ratings and Reviews
My wife & I made reservations for the Thanksgiving day buffet. We assumed we'd be overlooking the lake in the restaurant. Not so. When we got there the restaurant was closed and the buffet was moved to a large ball room with no windows and hence no view. Instead of the nice ambiance we expected it was more like a wedding reception. While I understand why it was done that way it was still disappointing. The staff however was very attentive and the food was generally good. I thought the turkey in particular was excellent as was the cranberry sauce. I also had the prime rib which was good but on the well done side. As an afterthought I tried some of the sushi which was pretty poor. It was dried out & chewy with little variety to choose from. They should have just skipped that part as there were plenty of other choices that looked much better. Sparking wine & mimosas were included as was a rather large variety dessert table. In general I thought it was a little overpriced but at least they did not try to nickel & dime us with extras and even the parking was free. And as I mentioned before, the waite staff was very good. Given that this was a buffet held in a generic ballroom and not the usual fare in the restaurant overlooking the lake I would estimate that a dinner there on a normal night would be very pleasant indeed.
Wonderful Thanksgiving buffet! Beautifully put together, very comfortable atmosphere, lovely wait staff and a buffet with something for everyone. Quality food with a great selection. We are not usually buffet goers, but have made this Thanksgiving buffet a tradition for the past 2 years and always leave happy. The kids love it..and I have picky kids with mature pallets! I would highly recommend this for a fun family TG meal if your not cooking. You will not be disappointed! Butternut squash soup, moist and delicious turkey, all the sides and a fabulous dessert spread, with mimosas to top it off:) Just as a note, it is not cheap, so check the pricing before you go, but it is worth every penny...it is a high end buffet.
We were very disappointed in the fajita buffet the night before the 4th of July. The salad looked ok, but the fajita meat was tasteless and dried out, and the tortillas weren't good. We had drinks before our meal, and the margarita was undrinkable. The bill was $70 for a very bad meal. Needless to say, we won't go back again.
This is sad, since it used to be one of our favorites.
Made reservations for a Friday, specifically for the fajita lunch, which is a Friday "thing" at the Hyatt. Reservation was at 11:30. We were told we couldn't order the fajitas because they were expecting large crowds that day and wouldn't be able to accommodate everyone! Not where we would have picked for lunch had we known we would just have to order off the menu.
We chose this restaurant for Easter brunch, as it was one of the only Sunday brunch places that offered a reservation. Honestly, it was very pricey (which isn't surprising for an Easter buffet), but the food was just okay. Most of the "hot dishes" were lukewarm at best. The servers were very friendly so it wasn't a terrible experience, but if you have the time to wait I would definitely recommend following the crowds to the better food next time.
Had Sunday breakfast on a date with my husband. Great customer service and food at the buffet was delicious. We especially enjoyed talking to Jose at the Omelette Bar.
It was quiet - just how we like it because we could actually carry a conversation and hear the other person. It was perfect for us. Nice views of Town Lake too!
We went to celebrate my son's 21st birthday. We had the brunch and were very happy with the selection of food. The omelet's were awesome too. The service was quick and very attentive to our needs. Love the brunch and would recommend it to anyone in the Austin area!!!
Hyatt happen to have a Christmas plate available for our visit Dec 25. Excellent!! Great price and outstanding food. Service excellent.
Hope Hyatt adopts to have such offers on all special holiday occasions through out year. Will be more than eager to visit again.
The Thanksgiving buffet was terrific. Everything we ate except for desserts tasted great and the selection was phenomenal. I suggest that future Thanksgving buffets include the full turkey rather than mainly the breast because several people asked for dark meat (which often goes better with the gravy) and there was none. An organic free range turkey easily fits the overall menu. The live music was also great. The several desserts we tried did not match the rest of the food, although some we did not try looked delicious. The ballroom lighting does not quite work because it was too dark, almost gloomy for a brunch meal, but the food made up for it. For those who do not want to cook on Thanksgiving this is a fine alternative.
This was a fantastic experience!! We went to the Thanksgiving Buffet on Thanksgiving day and we loved it!! The food was really great, their turkey was way better than mine! The choices were awesome and the kids loved it too. We will be back next year! There was a live musician playing a guitar and singing, lovely, and the wait staff was great. I can't say enough about this wonderful experience. Please check the pricing before you attend...it's a little pricey, but well worth every penny!! Awesome!!
We had a wonderful Thanksgiving Brunch. We really enjoyed the live acoustic guitar player and food was delicious! Only complaint was that our drinks were not kept full. Had to ask for coffee and mimosa refills ourselves because they were not automatically refilled. Very nice staff, though.
I made reservations for the Christmas buffet at 2:45. We drove from Round Rock and found the restaurant almost devoid of customers. I saw no evidence of any buffet and was told that there was a computer glitch and the buffet had been canceled. What a computer glitch had to do with it, I don't know. At this time on Christmas day where can you find dinner on short notice? The restaurant had my phone number but failed to give us notice. A very unprofessional way to run a restaurant.
Management apparently did not make it clear to event sites this year: their traditional Christmas brunch was NOT happening and the usual menu for Christmas Day was not suitable. Thank goodness they had a $28 Prime Rib Special. We braced ourselves for awfulness and were pleasantly proven wrong! And the bartender knew how to rock a Bellini!!!! Great meal, quiet, nice view, waiter so nice. Bring back the Christmas buffet!!!!!! Or make sure folks don't THINK there is one because of online info only to arrive and be disappointed!
Or advertise the Prime Rib Special....tender, done right with generous horseradish dressing!
This was my first time using open table and I was very impressed. The restaurant was a great experience and the view, there is no better. Our waiter was very courteous and on the dime. The food was good for a buffet. The ambiance is very dated and worn but it's an old hotel not classic old just old. Ive been there many times and have never had a bad meal plus the price was just right.
Seven of us attended the Thanksgiving Day buffet in the Zilker Ballroom (ages 22 to 79). No lines. Plenty of food. Lots of variety. Amazing ingredients. Friendly staff. Nicely decorated. We really appreciated that our table was ready when we arrived, the room wasn't packed and the buffet tables were well stocked with AMAZING foods. Each buffet area had a large and tasty selection: breakfast area, soup, salad and seafood area, hot lunch food area (roast beef, turkey, salmon... all with amazing sauces plus a variety of sides were available). Oh... and don't forget the dessert table! My biggest regret is that I filled up on the hot lunch food area and was too full to even go look at the other food tables... because I didn't want to miss dessert. The price for the meal seemed high... but to their credit... they did NOT skimp on what they provided. The only thing that wasn't pretty much perfect was the coffee they poured when I got dessert... it was barely lukewarm :-(. I especially liked that the staff did not seemed stressed and hurried. Great job! Thank you, SWB for a wonderful Thanksgiving meal memory.
Overall the food was good. Main courses Turkey and prime rib very good. I thought for the price $68 per person + 22% gratuity it was not what it should have been. Especially the service. I don't think our waiter was very experienced and did not speak good English. He would disappear and we constantly had to ask to get our water glasses filled. Getting champagne almost impossible and you could forget getting a refill.
I was a bit upset, as when I went online to find a place to eat for Thanksgiving, I found your menu and thought the offered price of $60 was a fair price. But to my surprise as my family and I were there to pay the total was $345 for 4. No where did I read as I was making a reservation that it said $65 ++ as we were told the day of. That was the first and last time we will be eating out for Thanksgiving. I thought a change would have been nice, but it just stressed and upset us. Only two of us ended up staying. I hope we get reimbursed for the other two.
Buffet was mediocre. Last yaer's service and food were much much better.
Overpriced for service level and the food you provideed. Had cafeteria feel at best.
Service was horrible especially when you charge 22% on top of $65 price.
I blame it all of it on POOR management.
We will not return.
Booked a somewhat last-minute Valentine's dinner here for 8:30PM (had something else planned from 7-8, mind). Not inordinately expensive for a V-day prix fixe menu, host seated us by the river so that the GF had a view of the night lights. Service was a little slow to start, considering there weren't that many people at the restaurant (half the tables were empty at the time, and there were reservations open as of Friday), but once drinks and appetizers started subsequent courses came like clockwork. Food was pretty good, not particularly knock-my-socks-off outstanding, but still tasty. Not sure why it wasn't booked out, can only assume that it didn't seem like it had a dinner menu usually so it doesn't occur to most people that this is a possible dinner spot.
I had a great dining experience at your establishment on Valentine day!! The Ambiance and your service reputation was the major reasons for choosing SWB@the Hyatt Regency Austin!! The experience was positively noteworthy which I have been sharing with my friends!! But one note!! I missed the flaming fajita's served on a sizzling platter from back in the day!! Which were best Fajita's the in town!! This was the reason for the one short of a" overall outstanding rating".
We went for Mother's Day, and at 62 dollars a person, we hoped the food would have been excellent. The crab legs were so salty, we couldn't eat them. The crab claws were small, but edible, at least. The sushi was fishy and made my husband gag. We are big sushi eaters and, again, couldn't eat it. The prime rib and sea bass were delicious and all the side dishes were fantastic. The desserts were a huge let down, so much that I ate a waffle with whipped cream and strawberries for dessert, and surprisingly, my favorite dish. Overall, spending over $200 on brunch for the star dish being a waffle, isn't somewhere I would recommend.
The Southwest Bistro restaurant was a mixed dining experience. The service and atmosphere were fine. Except they did not enforce the "no smoking within 15 feet of the door" policy even though we were outside. The cigarette smoke and even a cigar smoke was a bit disappointing, but didn't ruin out mood.
The bucket of fries we got for our son was delicious. And both my Sliders and the Ceviche were very good.
Other than the atmosphere, I'm not sure we'll be back. The $15 valet parking seemed extreme.
