Suzanne's Cuisine Ratings and Reviews
Everything about Suzanne's was wonderful from the time we arrived to the time that we left. The service was excellent. They were very attentive to us and our 1 1/2 year old. The food was the best there is in Ojai. They also know how to make an excellent martini. Quality , Quality, Quality.
Server Matt was excellent! Chimmichurri ribeye is likely my favorite steak of all time. Must try the Roll Ranch Syrah from Ojai Vineyard that they sell here. It is fantastic and is grown on the owner of Suzanne's ranch in upper Ojai. Absolutely amazing and cannot wait to go back again...and again.
We sat on the front porch for dinner on a warm night. Atmosphere was delightful. We shared the pan seared branzino as a main course preceded by a salad. The fish was delicious, but frankly best ordered for one person as the portion is not overly generous. Service was attentive without being intrusive. We ordered 2 deserts thinking they would be skimpy as well. Instead, each one was ENORMOUS and could easily have been shared by 3 people each desert. Server later told us that ALL the deserts are very big, so best to share if you are already sated from dinner.
We have a group of 6 and from appetizer, to entree, to dessert, all left us all very satisfied. The Suzanne's Old Fashion, Shrimp Dumplings, and Branzino were just a few of the highlights we had during our epic meal. Thanks als and we will see you again soon!
I don't know who dropped the ball on this one Open Table or Suzanne's. I made reservations 3 weeks prior to my expected dinner for my birthday on our trip out to Ojai. They were reservations at 8pm so pretty late. My wife and I decided to walk over around 7:30pm and to our surprise the restaurant had been closed for a week and would not open for another week!!!! Obviously we were upset and if you know Ojai a lot of places close relatively early usually around 9pm. I assumed it was open because I was able to make a reservation.
We came for the food but stayed and stayed for the ambience as well. Our table overlooked the garden and fountains and we were instantly relaxed. There were 3 of us so we shared a taste of all our entries and everything we ordered could not be more perfect. The presentation of the food itself was so artistic and appealing. The service was excellent and I felt like our server was a friend not just someone working there. The food was just so fresh you could really tell the difference in how great everything tasted. Save room for dessert because that was a treat beyond compare! We tried other restaurants that had good reviews while we were in Ojai but Suzanne's was by far the very best!!
A good friend had told us that this was her favorite restaurant in Ojai, so we were very excited to try it. When we pulled up we were impressed by how charming the restaurant was. It was a warm summer evening and the flowers and twinkling lights were so welcoming. The menu looked wonderful and we struggled with what to order, as everything sounded so good. All four of us were somewhat underwhelmed by everything we ordered.
We've eaten here half a dozen times over a decade. Seems to have deteriorated with time. Slapdash plating and ambitious menu means nothing is phenomenal. Few dining options in Ojai I suspect is why it continues to be popular.
Service was pleasant but eager to "sell" more items to increase final bill (and associated tip).
Suzanne's needs a reboot.
My only complaint is small. The rice was over cooked on the Branzino dish; otherwise, I really appreciated the light touch allowing the ingredients to speak from themselves. We did not have wine that evening. The wine list is ample, but on the pricey side as is the case in most establishments. The dessert, pineapple gratin was flavorful and I really enjoyed the pineapple ice cream; my companion's peach crisp was very good, but in our opinion a bit too sweet. Service was great as we were attended to by the entire staff not just one server. 4.5 stars.
Our dinner was delicious looking out at a lovely garden on the patio. The menu is extensive and so many delicious selections to chose from. Our server was superb and we enjoyed a lovely evening dining at Suzanne's. It was our best dining experience in the 5 nights we were in Ojai.
We live in the Los Angeles area and make several trips per year to Ojai. Almost every visit, we stop at Suzanne's. We first tried Suzanne's based on Open Table and Yelp reviews and have had nothing but GREAT food and GREAT service every time we have eaten there. They have impeccable service and the quality and options for food have never failed us. We have taken several of our friends to Suzanne's and they all have been equally impressed. We refer everyone to Suzanne's whenever we can.
As always, the food and service were outstanding. We were seated on the patio facing the little garden. Shrimp dumplings were the perfect appetizer to precede the Scottish salmon over sauerkraut. The staff were attentive, but we never felt rushed or "hounded". We always look forward to our return visits.
We had a memorable meal at Suzanne's. Per our request , we were seated at a table at the edge of the outdoor patio next to the garden. Lovely view with soothing fountain sounds and mood music, mostly Sinatra, in the background. Huge selection on the menu plus specials. First I must comment on the outstanding crusty bread and sweet butter. Could have made a whole meal of it. I had the zucchini flowers stuffed with goat cheese in a light tomato sauce. My spouse went with traditional escargot. Both dishes were excellent. I had the bouillabaisse which tasted like a trip to St.Tropez. Wonderful and very generous portion. Hubby had the petrale sole which he pronounced delicious. We ended by splitting a Cafe Leigois made with homemade coffee ice cream. Service was seamless. Definitely a must when in Ojai.
This was a reserved birthday lunch. We dined on the patio, which overlooks a beautiful garden.
The entrees purchased were a daily special trout meal, and a "most popular" salad with grilled chicken, to which we added portabello mushrooms. Unfortunately, there were literally 2 dried out pieces of chicken breast in a mountain of greens, and two pieces of (delicious ) portabello mushroom. For the $15 price tag, I would have expected us not to have to hunt for the main part of the salad (which didn't exist!). There were a few pine nuts, but we basically had a plate of greens.
The trout was well cooked, but not much flavor - It could have used a dip or sauce. Disappointing meal (food) other than the lovely atmosphere.
