Sutro's at the Cliff House Ratings and Reviews
We had brunch overlooking the beautiful Pacific and had the joy of watching 2, then 3 dolphins circling around in the little cove below. Apparently they were brunching too. Our experience got off to a great start with the genuine kindness of the hostess. She had a warm, genuinely welcoming spirit and really added to our enjoyment. The service was wonderful: our waiter was very attentive and shared a dolphin story with us. Food is incredible there — I had their Dungeness Louis (generous amount of crab & very fresh) and my husband had mussels. Both were divine. This is an iconic San Francisco place but we never get tired of it. Great bar, too! Thanks, people of Sutro’s at the Cliff House!
My husband and I were celebrating an anniversary and our server treated us extra special. We appreciated the complimentary dessert! Our meals were also wonderful. I had the salmon and my husband had the duck.
We really enjoyed our evening and plan to return!
Waiter was not attentive and seemed preoccupied. Plates arrived 45 minutes after we ordered and we were seated 15 minutes after opening. No there was NOT a rush of orders. My bouillabaisse had specks of crab meat but no scallops. Her pork chop was well executed but scrimped on pureed cauliflower. Over priced but...
Not a bad view anywhere. We caught a sunset spectacular.
Parking is a challenge and breakins are menacing.
Recommended for dates and special occasions.
What can I say? Sure, tourists go here but so do locals. You cannot beat the location. What a sweeping view of that tumultuous Pacific! After I dump my luggage off from a long flight to SFO, I start asking when we can go to The Cliff House.
The food is consistently good. Not great. Better than most that would lean on the view and serve meh food. Impossible to pass up the hot and generous bread with ample salted butter along with your cocktail. The waitstaff is reasonable attentive. Drinks are worthwhile.
If you're celebrating something, anything, come here. This place is what memories are made of.
What a fabulous meal and experience! This was our first time at Sutro’s at the Cliff House after hearing about it for years and it did not disappoint. It was perfect for celebrating my 50th birthday at lunch with my family overlooking the sea on a cloudy day. The view was spectacular and the venue was open and airy inside with floor to ceiling windows. Our waiter was fun and engaging and we all had a great time, including my 14-year old son. We enjoyed the shrimp tempura, crab cakes and oysters to start, the renowned bacon crusted salmon, skirt steak and frites, and ravioli for meal and chocolate lava cake for dessert in addition to a complimentary dessert. The pomegranate martini was scrumptious. After our meal we went on outdoor deck for some wonderful photos and also saw a lovely group of dolphins. It is pricey but very worth it for special occasion. We will definitely be back! Thank you Sutro’s!
VERY DISAPPOINTING EXPERIENCE. BOOKED FOR A SPECIAL OCCASION REQUESTED WINDOW SEATING. CORNER WINDOW GIVEN (EVEN THOUGH THE RESTAURANT WAS EMPTY @5PM ON A WEEKDAY) GAVE VIEW TO 2 OF 4 IN OUR PARTY. BARTENDER & WAITER SNOBBY, PORTIONS SMALL, MENU LIMITED, $$$$$. THE GOOD DAYS ARE OVER FOR THIS RESTAURANT.
I had made reservations right at 5pm when they opened for dinner for my fiancé’s birthday. Right when we were seated, the waiter knew exactly to greet him immediately which was impressive given some restaurants don’t always tend to look at the notes on the reservation. The views were stunning, the food was amazing, the service was great (our waiter was outgoing and funny). I definitely recommend this restaurant, especially for special occasions.
I came here with my fiance, my cousin and her husband. We did the same thing last year. We did a late lunch/early dinner and wanted to see the sunset. Once again, the Cliff House did not disappoint. The food was excellent. My fiance had the salmon and I had the scallops and prawns over Israeli Couscous. It was delicious. However, my only gripe is that my dish had two scallops and two prawns. It was $30 or $33. The amount of food really wasn't worth the price. If you had plated four of each then, yes, $30 or $33 would have been more worth the price.
When I made the reservations for 3:00PM (Open Table) I had requested window seating. My fiance and I arrived at 1:30PM and had a cocktail while we waited for my cousin. When we went downstairs to check in, we were told that we should have checked in when were first arrived in order to get the window seating. Lesson learned. However, we did have a booth where we did have somewhat of a view so it wasn't all bad.
We will definitely be back.
Front desk people were very unpleasant. My husband was parking and they refused to give me and my parents already reserved table and we had to stand there for 10 minutes until all four were together. Lady at the desk was very rude to us. Annoying experience.
Aside from that, food was excellent
The food was good but a bit pricey. My halibut was $38, more than what might be charged at other restaurants. My starter of crab cakes was just OK - a bit too mushy. I suppose it's because the location has historical significance plus a great view over the Pacific ocean. The waiter and service staff were very attentive and friendly.
Exceptional all the way around. Best seafood. Great options, fresh and creative. The view is spectacular. The staff, especially the wait staff was superb and incredibly attentive. The food could not be outdone. Blown away. One of the best chefs and management Sutro’s has had.
It’s all about the view here. Amazing view and great to walk around before or after. Schedule for about 30 mins before sunset for best views.
Food was average but fine. Drinks were great. Definitely a must for out of town visitors or just once a year for us locals.
Didn't like the lamb that I had ordered. Couldn't eat more than a quarter and didn't even care to box it. My family ordered crab cakes, salmon and shrimp scampi and were happy . The fries were yummy. About the seating, we didn't get the tables lining the windows despite making reservations days in advance. Initially disappointed, as they had better tables waiting and empty for other people. But can't complain, as once the sun started going down and they lifted the shutters up, we did enjoy the views. So overall good to very good.
