SUSHISAMBA West Village Ratings and Reviews
Have been to this location several times. The food always looks beautiful and tastes great. Great cocktails. Lots of energy in the place. Just a warning, the little plates really are little, and the portions "from the grill" are also on the smaller side. So just get lots of things.
The sushi rice was really hard, not properly cooked, our waitress paid us no mind and drinks took long to be brought. In addition she forgot a roll and had to put the order in a rush. Listen I’m a chef I hate leaving reviews like this but I know this is a good restaurant and hopefully these review help
Showed up 5 minutes early for our reservation, we were requested to step aside and wait. We waited 35 minutes without an update and when we asked the hostess, we were told it would be at least another 30 minutes to wait. I would also note that many other people had the same issue. We notified the hostess that we could not wait over an hour to be seated for our reservation and asked her to cancel it. Would not recommend this to anyone.
We live in the neighborhood and as a family of 6 go to SushiSamba quite a bit. We celebrate birthdays there, stop in after school or when we are passing by, or order something to go. My teenage daughter and 2 of her friends went last night with an 830P reservation and weren't seated until just after 930. Not only that, my daughter tells me the staff was rude to them. This is not surprising, it was a beautiful Saturday night so the restaurant was busy and teenagers can be...annoying and sometimes you don't want to deal with them, but still extremely disappointing. This is one of our neighborhood spots and they know us there and we've seen dozens of staff members come and go but we are consistent customers. I will think twice before going to SushiSamba next time.
Started off with arriving and their reservation system "was having some issues" but we were seated with just a minor delay. It was far too noisy inside, so we sat outside.
We ordered the five course tasting menu, I chose a wine, he ordered a beer. They were out of beer. We had our first course before we had water, drinks and chopsticks. Could it go up hill from here? We hoped! There were no water glasses available, they were washing them. Alas, water in clear Solo cups. He ordered sake....20 minutes later, they were also out of that. We literally sat for an hour in between the third and fourth courses with nothing to drink. An hour! Fourth course arrives - yeah! Another wine for me, and sake finally for him. Two bites into the fourth course, here comes the fifth course. I just looked and nodded "no" and they turned around. Finally ready for fifth course, well it's s'mores, on a windy night. I thought my hair was going to catch fire. Barely get our dessert course down, and here's the check. We paid by card, but received no pen. 20 minutes go by, she comes to pick up, yeah, no pen.
So all in all - absolutely horrible service, mediocre food. A five course tasting menu took 3 hours. We laughed it off, made bets that the waitress had actually quit during her shift or was doing dishes, maybe reprogramming the reservation system. We weren't offered any type of discount for any of the foibles, the tab was over $200... we certainly won't be back!!!
I've tried Sushisamba experience in Amsterdam and London and this place has nothing to do with them. First of all they bring all the food together by the time you catch up with one or the other, meat is cold and you don't enjoy Not to mention that food experience is simply NOT THERE. We got the worse table in the restaurant(although it was empty) the seats were sinking, the place looks old, no maintenance. Awful!
The place was average. Affordable sushi in Manhattan, which by itself is something hard to find.
We were seated outside, it was a pleasant evening and we enjoined seeing people passing by. The sushi didn't seem fresh, but was ok. It's a good place if you don't want to spend 200 bucks in one night (without drinks).
I’ve eaten here many years ago and st the one in Las Vegas 3x in one trip . But on the night of October 7 2017 the food wasn’t that great , sushi didn’t taste that fresh . Service was slow . Bar tender over worked took forever to get my drink . And no wheel chair accessible restrooms.
The service was very average and our waiters knowledge of the menu and wine list was poor. The food was very average between our group of six and we tried many of the small dishes and large dishes plus sides but were still left hungry at the end of the night. The tempura shrimp was oily and heavy. The tuna tartare biting and bland. The teriyaki chicken was basic and came without rice or sides and overpriced. The tuna rolls we tasty but basic. They ran out if the white wines we selected and told us they had a wedding that used it all up. The bathrooms were atrocious and dirty. The music was blaring away so you struggled to hear anyone and have a conversation. We had to chase the waiter to order food or drinks. Bad experience and would not recommended this place for food or ambience. The guys in our group wanted to get Pizza when we left after spending $150 per couple on food.
Again- the food is just amazing! We shared some of the small plates and the sushi- couldn't have been better.
The only downside was that I didn't know that they don't open the rooftop on mondays and tuesdays. Apart from that, just perfect! The s'mores for desert a little adventure and the motchi just jimmy!
The food was delicious and we had a great table upstairs with a fun view of the dining room. To say the service was bad is really an understatement. We saw our waitress maybe 3 times for a party of 7 people who wanted to enjoy a fun dinner out with food and drinks. Once the food was delivered (by runners) she never showed her face again and we were barely able to get drinks through out our whole visit. Luckily the delicious food kept us happy the service was a huge mark against the experience.
Service was really bad ... 20 min to get the menu, 20 to get the dessert menu, 20 min to get the bill and 10 more to get my card back ! The waitress explained in a very bad mood that the restaurante was full, ok, but it was full for everybody ! All the outdoor tables were forgotten by this particularly guy really unplaisant ! I can compared with the Miami restaurante and his excellent staff
