Went to this restaurant because one of the few I could get a reservation at before the Final 4 Championship game on Monday night. Should have known why.
The food itself was okay--- tough to mess up Fried Rice and the Sashimi was good although could have been colder. My son ordered chocolate cake for dessert and it was subpar.
Biggest problem was after the meal using the men's room-- this was absolutely disgusting and looked like it had not been cleaned in days-- if the men's room looked like that it always makes me wonder what the kitchen looks like.
For these reasons, this will be a one and done!
LRI roll was amazing! Great food-we’d go again
If you are low carb, I recommend the sashimi platter and River Walk Roll. Both were superb!
Very Good Sashimi, Sushi, Sake + Service!
Easy to see why this place is so popular. Nice modern atmosphere, fast and friendly service, very reasonably priced and the fish tastes fresh. They ask if you want thick or thin sliced sashimi - we opted for thick and it was perfect. Highly recommend. Wish there was one in Chicago!
I wasn’t sure how good it would be so I had to eat there twuce!😉
New Year's eve reservation, they clearly had let their best staff have the night off, as the service was incredibly slow. We waited over an hour and a half for our food and overheard several other tables saying they were waiting more than an hour. One group who were seated after us received appetisers and one entree before we got our food, but then waited another 45minutes or so for the rest of the group's entrees. It seemed as though both food prep and table service were backed up or overloaded. The food was fine when it arrived, but overall a very frustrating experience.
If you have to explain how bad a place sucks then it all becomes a bigger nightmare than it was and let me tell you, it was very bad. Cold and misty outside and New Years Eve to boot, we have reservations in this tiny little sushi place less than a block from our hotel. We get the a few minutes early and wait. While waiting, I notice that there is no hostess so waiters are taking turns trying to determine who is going to take time out and serve as host. There’s four or five wait staff and one doubles as a bartender while a manager and some chick are trying to fill in wherever they can. Three sushi chefs are behind the counter working diligently to perform all of their task. But still we wait. After nearly fifteen minutes we are put through the process of telling our names and reservations for three and are seated. The night seems like it might turn around but it never does and gets progressive worst as an appetizer is forgotten, drinks go unattended, then half of the entires are served without the second half. It could never recover even after the manager removed half of the items from our bill! I told him. It was the worst service and food that I had ever had and it was no understatement.
Food was very good. Servicer was attentive but food and drinks took a long time to be delivered. Considering it was packed and New Years Eve the overall experience was above average.
Excellent Japanese food for a restaurant outside of Japan!
We will be back!
Great food, prices and location! Easy to find and fun atmosphere!
Zushi Sushi has great food and service! The options were very good and food was perfect! Only downside was that it was quite expensive.
We ordered a big “delicato”sushi roll ($13.00) and the nigiri sushi sampler ($14.00). Both were very good and the price was especially reasonable. Decor wasn’t anything to write home about but the the price and engaging wait staff made for a pleasant dinner.
Ram and Cameron were great. Food was good for a good price.
Nice little neighborhood spot, right by the Riverwalk, not on it though...so no view. I went for Happy Hour and it was good. The waiter was awesome! good guy, wish I could remember his name. If you like sushi and good drinks, I recommend for sure!
The food quality was high, the creative use of spices created unique flavors. Sushi was fresh. Nice place.
Aprrently they do not take reservations on Fridays. Also, the hostess seemed very rushed and was short with me. Besides that, the food was absolutely incredible.
The restaurant itself has good food, only reason I would recommend, I went on a weekend and it wasn't packed, so that was good. Outside of that the service wasn't the best, nothing extra was offered (sauces), and it being out first time, we were pretty lost as far as the menu goes... waitress didn't seem to care, wasn't helpful. Seemed rushed.
Great sushi and staff.
Sushi was excellent and would listen to your waiter (ours was Donovan) - they know what they're talking about! Arrived around 6pm which was prime for getting some great rolls at half price as well as the cold, unfiltered saki - delicious! Would definitely recommend the Red Moon roll - multiple flavors that come at you in a layered format!
No changing table in the bathroom. I had to walk down the block to change my baby. The food was great, but having to go find another bathroom during my birthday dinner was not.
There for was ok. We had a couple of items that were a little off. It wasn't bad but not great either.
Sushi = meh.
Great service. Great food. The bartender Chico is so awesome and we always enjoy the service we get from him. 5 star all the way
Great service and food - inexpensive and exquisite!
Convenient location off the riverwalk but unobtrusive signage is hard to spot.
Saturday lunch was not nearly as packed as expected. Host was not very welcoming. Waitress was kind, patient and accommodating.
Food was perfect mix of authentic Japanese and modern cuisine.
Price was just right for four drinks, two appetizers, four mains and two premium rolls ($100).
Ambiance was a bit lacking... Could have been any cafe/bistro.
Overall, enjoyable meal but any other Sushi Zushi location would have been just as good if not better.
Not what I was expecting at all. It was too casual for the occasion. I have been in another Sushi Zushis and they are really nice but not this one. Also, the service was bad, the waiter was kind of rude. Not what you would expect from Sushi Zushi. I'm not coming back there.
My 12 year old daughter and I were visiting from out of town and read great reviews about Sushi Zushi. We were not disappointed. The restaurant was very busy the night we went but they made accommodations for almost every party that came through the door. The food was amazing and my daughter loved that they had "fancy" non-alcoholic drinks for her. I would highly recommend making a reservation through Open Table as it's a small restaurant. Wait staff were very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu (and understood what a 12 year old may or may not like in her sushi). The rolls with strawberry and kiwi sauce sounded odd to me but it was one of the best rolls we ordered. Highly recommend!! Overall it was a great experience and if we are ever back in San Antonio, we will definitely visit again.
Visited it again during our sequel visit to San Antonio, proved good value, good food, good sake. Next time we will come back!
Looking for some sushi not on the river walk. Found this online and sushi was very good. Excellent selection and solid service. Sashimi was excellent!
Had two rolls. One was ok but a little soggy and flavorless and the other was made with tuna coated in pepper. The pepper was overpowering and could not be scraped off. The was no other discernible flavor and I couldn't eat more than a couple of pieces. Huge menu and perhaps other items were better.
Our server (unfortunately, I don't remember his name) was excellent; friendly and attentive. In my opinion, the sushi was ok, not bad but not great. Since it's the only sushi place (that I found) close to the River Walk, I would return
Love atmosphere. The executive chef came and spoke with me and my husband. I loved every dish and the desert was to die for. I can't wait to go back.
The Spicy Edamame was good. The size of rolls and proportions of rice, fish and fillers left a lot to be desired.
Great rolls combination! Highly recommended.
I went there with my family. We ordered the happy hour deals. Food was ok. I've had better Japanese food though. But it's still a good deal during happy hour.
I must admit that I don't usually write reviews - but Sushi Zushi really impressed me. I don't think I have ever seen such a wide and varied sushi menu with such unique combinations. I had been traveling for work with a colleague. We ended up picking 6 sushi rolls to split and they were all spectacular. I can't even remember which 6 I ordered because I looked at so many combinations. I actually had to use a pen and paper to prioritize what I wanted when I was in the restaurant so I could place my order.
I would highly recommend Sushi Zushi to anyone that wants to eat sushi in Downtown San Antonio
Great place for different types of sushi!
My wife and I have eaten at dozens of sushi places and were very surprised by how excellent Sushi Zushi is. The decor is very plain, which is o.k., because the prices were very reasonable. The quality of the sushi was excellent as was the udon soup. The service was excellent and very attentive. They have a good wine list and extensive saki list.
What is very surprising was the very extensive menu. I don't recall a sushi restaurant with several full pages of choices. It was remarkable, as was the dinner experience. I will definitely be returning.
We went because my kids wanted sushi and this popped up in downtown area at the start of Riverwalk. IDK why I thought San Antonio might have good sushi, but I was hoping for at least decent. The good first - service was pleasant and the menu was long with lots of choices. Next all the bad - the rice was not very good. Any sushi chef will tell you the rice is the most important and carefully guarded part of making sushi. But this was soggy and mushy. The fish tasted like it was just taken out of the refrigerator (perhaps it was). The sashimi was oddly cut very thick (it was an extra $2 to cut it thin), and the octopus had an unnatural frozen crunch and smell. If you know good sushi, then please go elsewhere.
It is right at the beginning (or end) of the Riverwalk. Lots more choices to eat there.
