Sushi Yasaka Ratings and Reviews
My dinner companion arrived at 5:15 to await my arrival and called to tell me that there was already a line forming outside the restaurant. We had a 6/pm reservation and by that time the restaurant was full! Once the sushi arrived it was clear as to why there was not a table in the house. Outstanding, fresh and delicious sushi.
Everything we ordered was sublime.
Even typically mundane miso soup was rich, complexly flavored and delicious. Same with seaweed salad that had typical stringy consistency but with a bonus on the side of a variety of leafy types of seaweed with a different dressing.
Fish was super fresh which makes ALL the difference.
Our server was kind and made a specific trip to our table to let us know that there was no rush to bring out our entree as we lingered over our appetizers.
The space is not asthetically special but you'll never care because as soon as you begin eating all you see is the food.
Will keep going back!!
Just tried the Yasaka Special, $26 for 6 dishes plus rice. Delicious! Will get it again. Get the hamachikama, which is yellowtail collar cooked to tenderness. Under large bone structures, the meat falls off soft and moist. It's the option to replace the too-salty miso cod. Food remains high quality here at reasonable prices. Service is gracious. Plan a day or two in advance and make reservations. This place books solid through every lunch a dinner seating!
After months and months of trying to get into the place we finally got thru. We were given a small table by a wall. I spotted 2 seats at the bar near the bathroom door and figured it was a better seating than my table. But I was refused to switch seats... The waitress barely spoke English to the point of me having to ask my girlfriend to translate for me... She claimed that they had run out of salmon, sea bass and fluke (Wed 9 pm before Thanksgiving) for my sashimi. Seriously? How can you run out of the most popular fish on the holiday weekend? When I spotted salmon on other people's dishes I was told that they had it for rainbow roll but not for what I had ordered... Honestly thr best thing about the price were bust boys who were were attentive and polite.
Truly fine, fresh fish for an extensive list of sashimi and sushi options. There is also a varied menu of other Japanese dishes that I've yet to try. Excellent food and polite, friendly service. Gets VERY noisy--not a great place to have a conversation. There is sushi bar seating in addition to tables.
The Omakase is a great value at $45 and my wife loved her sushi. The uni was remarkable, and all the fish was fresh and perfect. I would recommend this for a quick and delicious dinner before catching a show at the Beacon. The staff was attentive and very helpful in helping us select from the saki menu. The green tea crepe for dessert is also a must. Make sure you reserve a table.
Food was outstanding from beginning to end. However, service from our waiter was just ok. It took a while before our waiter approached us, and he wasn't very excited about recommendations. The bussers were very attentive in taking care of any empty dishes and refilling our waters. Overall great experience minus the waiter.
We sat at the counter for Omakase. Normally chefs are supposed to chit chat with customers, but not here. The three Chinese chefs are busy talking among themselves, and chief Japanese chef was away from us and completely quiet. Please advise the Chinese chefs to be either quiet or stop talking loud in Chinese: very disturbing.
