Sushi Yasaka Ratings and Reviews
Truly fine, fresh fish for an extensive list of sashimi and sushi options. There is also a varied menu of other Japanese dishes that I've yet to try. Excellent food and polite, friendly service. Gets VERY noisy--not a great place to have a conversation. There is sushi bar seating in addition to tables.
The Omakase is a great value at $45 and my wife loved her sushi. The uni was remarkable, and all the fish was fresh and perfect. I would recommend this for a quick and delicious dinner before catching a show at the Beacon. The staff was attentive and very helpful in helping us select from the saki menu. The green tea crepe for dessert is also a must. Make sure you reserve a table.
Food was outstanding from beginning to end. However, service from our waiter was just ok. It took a while before our waiter approached us, and he wasn't very excited about recommendations. The bussers were very attentive in taking care of any empty dishes and refilling our waters. Overall great experience minus the waiter.
We sat at the counter for Omakase. Normally chefs are supposed to chit chat with customers, but not here. The three Chinese chefs are busy talking among themselves, and chief Japanese chef was away from us and completely quiet. Please advise the Chinese chefs to be either quiet or stop talking loud in Chinese: very disturbing.
I have lost count of my visits to this EXCELLENT Japanese restaurant and try to eat there whenever I am on the UWS. Fortunately my favorites museums, a few good restaurants, Lincoln Center and the apartment where I met my wife, 50 years ago, are all located within walking distance of Sushi Yasaka...Hurry there, it's a treat and the prices are right on!
The space was small but charming. The menu offered sushi and sashimi basics in a wide variety of super fresh fishes. I respect a sushi restaurant that sticks to the foundation of well sourced, well prepared fish served simply without feeling the need to create a pages of weird giant rolls filled fruit and flakes and fluff. Sushi Yasaka delivered top notch sushi in a pleasant atmosphere. There was also a great selection of saki. Overall we had a lovely experience and ate some great sushi. Perfect!
The sushi and sashimi are very fresh and of the highest quality. The better cuts of yellow tail, salmon and tuna are substituted for the basic, tasteless ones served at other restaurants priced similarly. The sushi, sashimi and omakase platters are a great value.
food, service and atmosphere was stellar - went for a pre- theater at the beacon - service was fast and polite . all dishes arrived promptly, nicely presented and were delicious. They do not serve hard liquor was the only disappointment. All overall experience was excellent and I'll be back .
