Highly affordable omakase sushi on the Upper West Side.
OK place. Not so expensive compared with other Japanese restaurant but everything is mediocre including the taste.
Great sushi . Gets very noisy.
There needs to be more specialty roll selections.
Also hamachi kama was VERY dry
The quality of the fish here is excellent. They have a new menu, prices are higher than they were but still reasonable. The sushi pieces are much smaller than they used to be, and we were disappointed. No one goes here for the ambiance - noisy as can be, crammed in like sardines. If it wasn't right near our apartment I wouldn't bother.
Brought guests from Europe and they can't stop talking about our lunch. As always, the best food, service and prices of all of its contemporaries.
My reservation was at 6:45pm and I got there at 6:42pm. We ended up being seated at 7:05pm because our table wasn't ready.
Good food. Poor service. Servers do not acknowledge, smile or initiate services. Think of Sushi Yasaka as a fast food place with great food but lousy service.
I always enjoy food there however, they charged me $7 for a small bowl of Chawanmushi when there is $14 for sushi lunch???? That's a little too much price for such small chawanmushi. I was told they charge $9 for big bowl yet later the waitress told me the chef made a mistake and brought small bowl then still charged $7?
I was not happy about this service at all.
We thoroughly enjoy the sushi and presentation. Navigate times and seating if talking is part of the evening.
My friend and I went here for lunch yesterday. It's good that we had a reservation because the restaurant was packed. I was a bit surprised. Most restaurants are slowing down after 2PM, but the restaurant is on the small side.
The service was good and they brought our food quickly. My friend got the beef negimaki and the sushi deluxe platter. I ordered the unagi donburi.
We both enjoyed our meals. I tried the beef negimaki, and I thought it was delicious, but a bit salty.
The unagi was very good. It was, though, a bit hard to eat. It would have helped to have it sliced.
The pricing was very fair especially for the neighborhood. All, and all, it was a nice lunch. I would go again.
The best Japanese restaurant I have been to in terms of quality& value . MUST have a reservation . Enjoy!
I took a three-year-old for sushi which she loves for daddy daughter day while her mom is flying in from Los Angeles. I left a review along time ago about how great this places but the staff is not friendly they are efficient but not friendly but even under tough circumstances about having a baby there at that hour they were wonderful and my waiter who was the new gentleman to the restaurant was amazing and we had a magical night
Incredible Sushi. Among the best in the city. The cooked food, tempura & teriyaki is also fabulous. One of the Upper West Side’s gems.
Loved it. Good sushi & lunch is a great value.
Ordered the 28$ sushi dinner. Absolutely worth it. Fish was delicious, and like others have said, they are not overshadowed by too much rice. King salmon nigiri (I think) was one of the tastiest bites I've had since being in Japan. Monkfish liver was interesting, but the agedashi tofu I thought was lacking in texture. Overall amazing food, will absolutely come again.
As always great food, especially sushi - not too much rice
Beat sushi value for amazing quality sushi
We are regulars at Sushi Yasaka, as we always enjoy our experience there. We recommend ordering the Omakase (great quality, fair price) at the bar as the 12 pieces come one after the other and you can discuss with the chef. We will be back!
Always fresh fish and the cooked food is consistently delicious. Great lunch special.
I never got my dinning points booked through OPENTABLE.
Great food and great atmosphere. The fish was the freshest I have ever had.
Took our reservation right on time.Prompt & attentive Service, Fresh & Delicious Food, prepared to specifications. We were repeat customers & definitely would go back when in the area.
Very convenient to the Beacon Theatre. Reservations are a Must!
Great energy, packed neighborhood gem, the staff were sensitive and smart, and really nice! They were efficient about managing the crowds and the line waiting to get in. The fish all seemed very fresh. All the food was good!
Two quibbles, the sushi pieces seemed small, thin, and the large bottles of sake seemed a bit too expensive - $50 & $60... Bottles of wine would have been a better choice. I ended up needing a la carte, after the sushi deluxe platter...
Sushi Yasaka is the best; I will not replace it with any other Japanese restaurant in the city, or anywhere else! everything is simply delicious
Simply the best, freshest sushi on the west side. Best quality for price. Run don’t walk.
The food was excellent---my tuna donbori was FRESH; however, it's not a place to linger over your meal. The service is excellent and there is no hint on their part that they're trying to turn over the tables (which they are) but there's a line waiting and there's no real place to wait comfortably. So we ate, paid our bill, and went elsewhere for an after-dinner drink.
One of Sushi Yasaka's many assets is their attention to details. Water glasses are regularly refilled; low sodium soy sauce is standard at the table; and, whereas other restaurants serve undercooked, unseasoned veggies with their hot entrees, Sushi Yasaka serves accompaniments that actually enhance the meal. Yes, the tables are close together, but not unbearably so. Just be sure to make a reservation, even on weeknights, or risk missing out on a lovely meal.
Very fresh ingredients. Fast service but they don’t rush you. Love the LadyM cakes for dessert.
Excellent sushi. And a value, too. Their mini omakase is a bargain. Their garden salad is the best salad anywhere. But... They were crowded, noisy, and chaotic with a group of dour impatient diners looming. And they were rude, not honoring our reservation promptly, leaving us guessing with the mad standing people for about fifteen minutes without apologizing. The server threw the food at us, and then disappeared. We politely asked them to remove the used paper towelettes, and they seemed bewildered. The sushi bar is much less annoying.
The sushi rolls prepared for lunch are very mediocre. They were soggy and very little sushi inside the roll. After I had the rolls, it deterred me from ordering individual pieces of sushi.
I keep going back hoping things will improve, but I find that in past years it was better.
Also, they have a new menu and it is not only confusing but with all the pictures in it, you can barely find the items you want to order. Not sure why they changed it. It was as if I was in a different restaurant. I got a headache from trying to decipher it.
Favorite! Our go to place.
Wish the restaurant was larger and had more tables. It’s very popular
Excellent, as always! Good service, delicious food.
This restaurant was crowded and hard to get a reservation for. I can see why – the food was excellent excellent excellent. The excited crowd was noisy but it is a rather small place and to be expected. My only complaint was that the service was a bit slow and the waiter seemed a little over stretched. Will def be back!
昼食のサーモン定食又はちらし寿司が心を癒し一人で食べて長い散歩、リタイヤアー生活の私にとって最高の楽しみです。
One of the best sushi places on the UWS. Every dish is amazing and the fish is fresh and melts in your mouth. You have to make a reservation since this place is popular!
Great Japanese food on the Upper West Side; but make sure to get a reservation! We went on a Monday night and we thankful we had one as the restaurant was packed!!
We'll be returning here for sure.
Sushi always fresh and sizeable, they have hamachi kama, their cooked and raw food is excellent which is why reservations are required, even lunch is crowded. An excellent choice!
As usual fantastic!!!
As always the food was excellent and the price perfect always a terrific value!
