What Insiders Are Saying
Highly affordable omakase sushi on the Upper West Side.
This has long been my favorite sushi restaurant. If I lived closer to it, I'd probably eat there every day. The fish is so fresh and flavorful--it's a joy to savor every bite. The service varies from almost non-existent to very good, depending on how crowded the restaurant is, and it does get crowded (at its peak, it is VERY noisy). It's getting more and more difficult to get a reservation because of its word-of-mouth (literally) raves, so reserve way ahead. Lunchtime is a bit easier, but can still get quite full. The kitchen closes at 2:30 or 3:00 for dinner prep; it reopens at, I think, 5:30. Check their website to be sure. This is superb food to treasure.
Loved it. Always good.
Best sushi in Manhattan, and for the best value too! Plus the service is impeccable; I was in and out in 25 minutes with a happy, full belly. Incredible!! No wonder they always have a wait, and I was definitely lucky to snag a last-minute reservation.
Love this place, always great food. Recommend booking in advance, it’s always busy
Great as always
Reservations are a must
Probably my 50th 5 Star review... Don't come here! It will be harder for me to get a reservation:)
Great plsce--authentic, always lots of Japanese customers are here. Excellent fresh sushi/sashimi, excellent chefs. Everything is super fresh and tastefully prepared. Very well run place, great quality for the money.
Great upper west side sushi! Service is excellent. The sushi is fresh and diverse in choice.
Quick, easy sitting with reservation.
Delicious affordable sushi
With very fresh fish at a very reasonable price, I would come back to Sushi Yasaka. I was able to make a Friday reservation for four on a Tuesday and was pleasantly surprised.
We came here for my boyfriend's birthday. We both had the 12-course omakase, which felt like a very good deal at $55 for the high-quality fish. The atmosphere was perfect for a low-key special occasion – nicer than just a casual dinner out, without being too formal or fancy.
We were disappointed the past two times we ate here. The sushi is very good, but the cooked food has been average. Last time the negamaki was tough. This time the chicken teriyaki was dry and over cooked. There prices are high and the place is packed. The server was very good, but I don’t think we’ll return soon.
Good food, efficient service and good value
Best sushi on the UWS and possibly in the city. Always great, fresh and consistent!
The best fish for the cheapest prices. A true neighborhood gem.
Sushi rice remained raw and firm for eating. I was so disappointed their food. Good sushi rice is essential for sushi, but I was not satisfied with this sushi rice.
Hoping it was just an “off” evening. The tempura was gummy and not crispy. The service was poor although the restaurant was not as crowded as usual. The rolls were served without the usual wasabi and ginger. Overall not up to the standard that I have come to expect from my neighborhood favorite, Sushi Yasaka.
First omakase experience in NYC. Yasaka has an affordable omakase, each sushi piece was made well with a slight seasoning / relish. Ingredients are from, flavorful, and few melt in your mouth. They also have other menu items from their kitchen, along with sake
We loved our dinner at Sushi Yasaka---we arrived a little early and were delighted they were able to seat us a few mins before our reservation. It was quite busy and they did a lovely job making sure the service was preserved and the food was amazing!
I usually love this place and have gone there many times, always with a good after feeling. This time, however, was disappointing. When three deserts came for me and my guests, all green tea ice cream, two of them had pieces of plastic in them. My guests were the unlucky ones. While the restaurant did not charge us for the dessert my thought is that, given this embarrassing end of dinner happening, a more significant discount on the dinner was called for. I did not complain at the time, other than informing the waiter of the debris in the ice cream, but this was an important dinner and the end point left a bad taste in our mouths.
Our favorite sushi place. Always fresh and tasty.
The best sushi on UWS.
Someone told me this was the best Japanese restaurant in Manhattan. It was fine, but nothing extraordinary, at least for lunch.
Not so crowded last Saturday. Ambiance was excellent.
Such wonderful food that it’s worth dealing with the volume of the chatter.
I’ve eaten here 6 times and always get fresh delicious food.
Bento boxes, hand rolls, udon noodle soup with tempura! Salad w ginger dressing! Shumai!
Red bean and green tea ice cream are special, unique, and lovely desserts.
Very, very good.
Must make a res. it is very popular.
I’m going back!
Great place best omakase in the city at the price!
really loved finding this place! Great quality sushi at an amazing price! I will be back!
This popular neighborhood gem is almost hidden by the bulging front of the restaurant next door. Excellent menu options. Respectable sake list. Good Mini-Omakase available at lunch. Full Omakase at dinner only, superbly priced.
Food was average. Green tea ice cream was good. On menu, it said to tell the waiter if you do not want whipped cream. I said nothing and received mine without. When I asked him to add it, he got an attitude. It was early and not busy so there was no excuse. Atmosphere was not appealing. I expected that the entree of sushi would come with a soup or salad but they changed that policy since the last visit there.
One of the best Japanese restaurants on the UWS. Please, please deliver above 95th Street. I and many others would love this.
Service isn’t good!!!!
Best tempura I've had in NYC. *very* popular so reserve well in advance.
Excellent food; crowded and very very noisy. However, food is worth it.
Best sushi in NYC, no doubt. Get the Omakase! Service sometimes could be better. Extremely noisy. But overall my favorite sushi place in the world
This is my favorite Sushi(Japanese) restaurant in all of Manhattan. I've been to a lot of sushi restaurant in my time in New York. I've been here for 20 years and this is by far my favorite restaurant in Manhattan the service is fantastic the food is stupendous and overall atmosphere is nice and quaint and it's just amazing.
Always delicious, affordable and great staff! My go-to for sushi on the UWS
Best place for affordable sushi in the neighborhood!
Great food!! The sushi was really remarkable!!
