Sushi Room - A Thai Kitchen and Saki Bar Ratings and Reviews
It was awful, first we asked for the porterhouse steak featured in the menu, the server told us they do not offer that anymore, then I asked about the japanese fried rice as it was described on the menu and was told it was actually Chinese fried rice, I should’ve left by then but decided to stay to suffer through the awful stuff they offer, no taste at all.
Do not reccomend this place.
We have been going to the Sushi Room for about 3 years about every two weeks, so it has been one of our go-to spots. When we arrived this Saturday, we didn't recognize any of the front-of-the-house staff or the sushi staff and knew something was up.
After being greeted by a new waiter, we were seated. We were not given the usual weekly menu additions sheet, a key reason for coming here. When we asked about it, we were told there were no special items this week. We then ordered our usual bottle of wine, and the waiter came back 10 minutes later, telling us that it was out of stock; they gave us a sample of a different bottle, which we didn't like, and we ordered a different bottle.
We placed our order, and they were able to make us a 'sashimi salad', which has been taken off the menu. We made a selection of another 5 plates, and were told that they were out of the wagyu beef, which we always order.
The food itself that we were able to order was still of fair quality, although the waits between courses was much longer than usual. But, without the additional special weekly items, it's just another sushi joint, albeit a VERY high-priced one. For the price point, one might as well go to Kuru at the Casino.
When we asked initially if the restaurant had sold, we were told that there was just 'staff turnover', but, when we asked a different person, we were told that Sushi Room and Mama Mia next door had both been sold in the past week.
So the new iteration is off to a very rocky start. Hopefully, the new owners can right the ship and make the place worthwhile to come back to.
As far as the 'noise level', "energetic" above translates into "far too loud". And we had to ask that the music be turned down so that we could hear each other talk.
WHAT A SHAME! We've been to Sushi Room, and its sister (Mama Mia) next door, several times in recent years. On our recent visits to both, we noticed that service was going downhill, but this time it was so bad that we WALKED OUT and will never return. Here's the timeline: Thursday evening, 7:40 p.m. – wife walked in (while I looked for parking) and was seated, but waiter advised that kitchen was backed up and there would be somewhat of a wait for food. 7:50 – I arrived, no menus yet nor had waiter been back. 8:00 – I walked over to waiter and asked for menus. His reply: “The kitchen is very backed up. It will be 45 minutes to get food.” I replied: “WHAT does that have to do with giving us menus and taking a drink order?” He practically threw menus at our table and ran off so fast that we couldn’t even ask for drinks. Why did we stay at this point? Only because we had a Groupon expiring in 3 days. 8:15 – I found a manager and told him what was going on, asked him for water and ice tea, and could we at least put an order of edamame in. He said he would take care of it. 8:30 – I practically had to grab waiter as he was scurrying by our table, and asked him if we could please place our order. “Well,” he huffed, “there’s going to be at least a half hour wait for food.” I said: “Maybe if you had taken our order a half hour ago, it would be coming out soon.” He replied, with annoyance: “NO. No it wouldn’t.” I told him we were leaving and he wasn’t the least bit concerned. Tracked down same manager and told him as well; he didn’t even apologize or show any degree of concern!
In addition to horrible service, they’ve now turned the bar area on the Mama Mia side into somewhat of a club, so the pounding music carries throughout not only Mama Mia but even into Sushi Room through the open interior door. This place has really declined; the food (if/when you get it) may be good, but the unpleasant experience just isn’t worth it, with so many other choices in the area. Stay away!
The sushi was good, but the other food was just OK. I went here because it had amazing reviews and I am pretty sure that the chicken from the Pad Thai was undercooked and caused me to be sick the whole next day. Even with that said, I would probably go back to have the sushi and maybe the Miso soup, but that is it.
Food is great but service was terrible, brought wrong wine, forgot 2 items we ordered and slow for things he remembered.
Went to bar for after dinner drink at sister restaurant Mamma Mia which is connected n share waiters n restrooms.
No bartender came for 10 minutes then when did didn’t ask what we wanted and we were only ones at bar.
I asked if open and his reply was yes then walked into restaurant without taking order.
I won’t be back
went with a groupon. Ended up paying a large tip for only 2 people ($10.00)... included.. so just beware of that so technically you're paying $40 for $50 when you get the groupon . The server was constantly on us and was willing to listen attentively. 3rd time there. OVERPRICED SUSHI!
Service was acceptable at the beginning of the evening, but quickly plummeted. Five entries ordered - the hot meals were delivered 45+ minutes later and 15 minutes before the sushi arrived for the other 3 members in the party . Other parties arriving after us were served and leaving while we were still waiting. Asked to speak with the manager -- hostess responded she would let him know, but no manager arrived. After waiting for another 15 minutes, again asked to speak with the manager. Hostess responded that the "manager is very busy". No service recovery was offered to make up for the poor, poor service. It was amazing tho how quickly the bill was delivered after the unacceptable service and lack of response to repeated requests.
Avoid this place at all costs. The Sushi was terrible. I eat a lot of sushi and this was the most disgusting spicy tuna roll I have ever had. I didn't even finish it. The rest was awe full too. The service was super slow. There was a bad smell of cigarettes in the air. I seriously can't think of a single redeeming factor about this restaurant.
My family visits south Florida very frequently throughout the year and we never leave without a trip to SUSHI ROOM!! The choices are endless and the sushi is delicious. Being Italian, we have a very picky family, but for those who don't eat sushi, not only are there so many other tasty options, but they've been able to order food from Mamma Mia next door and eat it with us at our table!! How convenient?? The Sushi Room is delicious, the 3 soy sauces they provide everyone with are delicious, and although a small spot, it's very accommodating for larger groups. We've been 23 people once and fit perfectly! I'll be seeing you soon Sushi Room, can't wait!
Service was not good. Waited 20 minutes to get water. Was not very polite upon arrival. Claimed we didn't have a reservation. Took first part of order and never saw waitress again. Very noisy. Asked for secluded seating, was sat in the middle of the resturaunt surrounded by tables. Very noisy. Pricey.
I love this restaurant for so many reasons! First, the staff is consistent. Second, the food is excellent and the specials are interesting, and third, it is connected to MaMa Mia and if you want Japanese and your date wants Italian... they can make it happen!
Went on a Saturday night during off season. Lots of wait staff due to not many customers. Should have had better service. Two starters came out at different times. Two entrees came out at different times. I'm a slow eater so my companion was eating alone. If his food came out first instead of mine he would have finished his meal before mine was even served.
