Sushi Rock Ratings and Reviews
Very disappointed sushi rock changed their menu. Why change something if there is nothing wrong? My favorite roll, tiger roll, is no longer on the menu. Sushi rock is my favorite restaurant in the Arlington area, but honestly upon taking away my favorite roll, I likely won't be back anytime soon.
Great Food. But lastnight I went and had their Daily Tuesday special of $20 off bottles of wine listed on the Menu. No note of a time, and have been told before that they're all day. After the meal i was charged full bottle price and they stated it's not after 9PM. But doesn't state that anywhere. I typically don't pay $65 for an $10 bottle. Not very happy sushi rock.
Update: Sushi Rock provided me a $20 coupon, but doesn't account for the 25% tip and tax on the wine bottle where the special was not honored.
Joined a friend from out of town at Sushi Rock based on a recommendation. Was a little unsure at first--Sushi and rock music? Seems like a strange fusion, like an Asian/Guns'n'Roses restaurant?
The setting turned out to be fun, and the food was great. We ordered rolls and sashimi, and though I'm no expert in Sushi, it was fun and enjoyable to try their rolls.
The downside of the meal was the service. We saw our waitress three times all night; to take our drink order, to take our food order, and to swipe our credit cards. I spent half the time in the restaurant with an empty water glass in front of me. And, I had no one to point out that what was brought to our table was not what we ordered. I ordered a plate of 8 chef's choice sashimi and was brought 11--not even 12 like was another option on the menu. Our friend ordered two pieces of tuna nigiri (with rice) and was brought sashimi (without).
I was also not too happy about the process for paying the bill. In retrospect I should have asked to see our bill and what we were charged for because all ordering and paying is done on iPads. Because of that I didn't see if we were at least charged for what I ordered vs what was delivered to our table. And the only options I saw for tipping were to leave no tip, 18%, or upwards of 18%. That seemed like a lot to tip for for unsatisfactory service, but I didn't want to leave no tip at all.
Otherwise, it was a fun night, good atmosphere, and a lively evening. We'll be going back again.
As tempting as the outdoor seating us avoid at all costs. I had asked if there were bugs and the waitstaff said no but boy did my friend and I get eaten up! The service was good BUT watch out for the upsells and when they ask you to add anything if it's i clouded or additional. I ordered the Light my Fire sushi roll and boy was it hot! The jalapeño peppers were on top of each sushi! I also got the salmon and avocado roll which was delicious and LOVED THE VEGGIE SOUP! I normally get the veggie ramen but the Veggie soup is the same broth they use for the Veggie ramen and soooooo amazing! Overall an awesome go-to place that rarely disappoints!
Although service was friendly, the general lack of cleanliness undermined confidence. The window ledge (we were seated inside against window) had many crumbs. The floor needed sweeping. The decor pieces needed dusting. The glass fencing on the upstairs balcony was filthy, with accumulated food splashes plain as daylight. What a shame they can't be bothered. Made us wonder what the kitchen looked like.
I love the sushi here! I did notice that the floor was a bit dirty and the clean up staff did not do a great job turning over the tables for new parties. I also was annoyed that I couldn't use my Groupon which is basically like a gift card and my discount from SpotLuck at the same time. But overall the sushi is great, very creative.
Great food. Seating is seat up terribly. the seats are uncomfortable & the tables are too close together. definitely didn't have any privacy. too many tables to feel relaxed. so it was very noisy. service was ok. we had questions about a few things on the menu and the waitress didn't know what we were taking about. staff could be friendlier & more attentive. but the food is amazing, so we would go back for that!
I went to Sushi Rock with a client for a mid week meeting. I had the Wonton Chip nachos which were delicious. I also had the shrimp tempura which was not so good. Imagine freezer shrimp from Safeway. My associate had the California roll which looked fresh and she said was delicious. The best part of the event is that I asked for slightly larger table since this was a meeting and they accommodated us. I also had to call and inform them that I would be about 10 minutes late due to traffic and asked if they could seat my guest and they were most accommodating. I would go back again but I would stick to the sushi.
Fun atmosphere, but the service kills it. This place could be amazing. It's a trendy and fun environment Rock style loft with outdoor seating, but if you want good service go somewhere else. Food is great love the sushi rolls ! Keep coming back hoping for better servers, but remember as soon as we get seated.
My girlfriend and I went here for a date night, and at first glace we really liked the scenery. However, the service from there on out was upsetting. We put in a reservation, but on arrival they (barely) separated a table from another group for us. The place was very loud and having another group sitting right next to us made it hard to have a good conversation.
We ordered a couple cocktails to start, as well as miso soup and lettuce wraps. The Dr. Feel Good was a sweet cocktail, but the Tokyo Green Tea was fairly strong so if you're planning to drive afterwards you should probably avoid that drink. The miso soup came quickly, but the lettuce wraps never did. After we received our sushi 40 minutes later, we asked to make sure we weren't charged for the lettuce wraps. The waitress claimed we never asked for lettuce wraps, but we had asked for them twice. In the end, we ate our sushi and decided we were still hungry so we would probably grab another late meal that night.
When we asked for the check, we were handed an iPad to provide a tip and sign. We wanted to leave a poor tip because the service had left us upset and still slightly hungry, but with the waitress staring at us and the iPad providing an 18% and 20% option and nothing lower, we were left feeling uncomfortable and settled for 18%. Our meal ended up being $50 for two drinks, soup, and three rolls of sushi. That's not a very good deal if you ask me. I will admit that when we asked for a receipt they provided it to us in a friendly manner, the hostesses were accommodating and friendly.
Personally, you're better off buying pick-up or delivery and avoiding the poor service here. Or try to avoid their busiest hours, they seemed very busy.
Good food, some things were a bit of a miss for me. We ordered the wasabi dumplings, which were heavy on the wasabi flavor and that made it quite frankly unappealing. Wouldn't order that again. We did also get the chef's choice maki/nigiri set which was good, not quite amazing, but we probably should've just ordered rolls ourselves.
Service was bad, the hostess tried to debate me about what a poached egg was after they gave me a hard boiled egg which was supposed to be a poached. This restaurant also failed to indicate that I attended my reservation and I had to follow up with Open Table afterwards to confirm.
Absolutely the freshest sushi I've ever had. Beautiful presentation and a great selection of sake. Very fun and family friend to boot. The acoustics are a bit wanting but that's the space. It's what makes it fun for a birthday, family and even a date. There won't be much quiet conversation unless you are seated outside in nice weather, which is a part of this place being a neighborhood gem.
