What Insiders Are Saying
For us, there are few culinary pleasures in life that exceed sushi bar swagging at Sushi of Gari, watching an old master fish sculptor slice up some heavenly creations destined for our bellies. Unfortunately, this Gari location is our least favorite yet.
Terrible. Not worth the money.
This is my second visit in a week for the omakase dinner at the sushi bar. Last week I went with two friends and when it was discovered they were allergic to gluten and could not have sushi, the waitress suggested the sashimi dinner which they enjoyed very much. Fish is absolutely fresh and the chefs have wonderful skills with the knife -- each piece melts in the mouth. I highly recommend Sushi of Gari and can't wait to return.
This is hands down the best Sushi I have ever eaten in America. The chef is exceptional.
great Service, very nice waiter!!!
I have been going to Gari on UWS and UES for several years!! TriBeCa was terrible - the omakase was no where near the quality it should have been. So disappointed. We all were.
So fantastic! Dont go for ambiance..onky for food!
We had a great time dining at Sushi of Gari. We were greeted kindly by the hostess who seated us promptly upstairs for the chef tasting omakase. Our waitress did a great job recommending different types of sake and explaining the omakase process. Each piece was crafted to perfection. Our favorite was the fluke with poached quail egg and truffle oil! We had an amazing experience and will be back soon!
Delicious omakase without all the pretense of some other places.
There are so many good sushi places in NYC that I'm not usually that excited about any single one of them but the food here really was noticeably amazing. My only complaint would be that the bathroom is in a weird location and if you're sitting at one of the two tables right in front of the bathroom there's a lot of foot traffic past your table.
I ate upstairs at the Sushi Omakase counter. very creative and delicious combinations that I had never eaten. You can let them know what you like so they can tailor the menu to suit your taste. It's relaxing not to have to choose and also to be surprised by inventive pieces of sushi. Very expensive, but if you just want to chill out and have a delicious and relaxing experience I highly recommend!!!
One of the best for Sushi and sashimi. Team is lovely.
Incredible sushi. The fish was so delicious and the restaurant was very quiet and intimate. I recommend ordering off their signature menu for some really interesting pieces of sushi.
The food is always on point, however, the service is inconsistent to sub-par.
Absolutely amazing food with excellent service. The chef’s recommendation Omakase was perfect. Can’t wait to go back.
Waitress made amazing recommendations. Everything was perfect.
Never fails. If I were on death row, this may be my choice for the final meal.
They mistakenly charged me for the most expensive sake on the menu. I’ve never once ordered this sake and I’ve been to this location 20 times.
Would not take the sake off the bill, and claimed my client ordered the bottle without my knowledge.
sushi of gari is always amazing. have been many times now and continues to be great. first time getting the tuna of gari dinner and it was divine.
The omakase isn’t exceptional as always. We were seated near the door, next to the hostess station which got crowded very quickly. It’s not the most comfortable seating. It was alright since we were only going for a quick meal.
amazing food. service was not good - very slow. we sat down before the people next to us and got our food later than everyone else.
One of the best sushi meals we’ve had. And we LOVE Sushi. we recommend the Omakase at this special place.
The sushi is perfect but it's priced like Nobu and you are sitting on top of other diners.
Qualité de sushi top
Un peu cher
Un très bon moment
This location of Sushi of Gari is pedestrian. The omekase is O Ya style, with lots of sauces that, well composed, can elevate the fish. Poorly composed or overly sauced, and they obscure and drown the flavor of what was very nice nigiri (I’m looking at you, salmon with warm tomatoes on top). The small omekase bar upstairs was overlit, the service was fine but a little slapdash, and the price was definitely expense account territory. Omekase is by the piece and we stopped short of our usual not long after that salmon mouthful, and it was still $350 with sake and tip.
Excellent food and service. Amazing sushi and good options of sake. The place is small and tables are close to one another - typical of a NY restaurant. Highly recommended.
The food and service are excellent and so I keep coming back but I wish they could increase the ambiance somehow. Very uninspiring room with the tables crammed so close together.
Loved it. Great food. Great service. Close quarters even for NYC but loved it.
Our table collapsed mid meal. The waiters spent 20 minutes trying to fix it and interrupted our date. Gave us no discount or apology.
top notch sushi and rolls with excellent attentive and quick service -
Great sushi as always top sushi for sure in nyc
I was done with my entire meal within 35 minutes. It felt completely rushed
Service was good but the food and decor do not justify the price.
I was in town for business, and I decided to have Gari. The Tribeca location is by far my favorite. They seated me at the sushi bar upstairs, and I got to have a chef right in front of me as his only customer. He took me on a journey. The sushi presentation is a work of art, and his juxtaposition of differing flavors was amazing. In addition, I don’t know if my water or sake glasses ever got below half full. Outstanding service! And all for a really reasonable price for NYC high end sushi.
I am a huge Sushi of Gari fan but the food was sub par on this occasion. The fish was too cold and was not the same quality that it normally is.
Great food but just extremely overpriced, even for NYC standards
I’ve always enjoyed gari- though this was my first time in the TriBeCa location. The food continues to be solid, though i don’t think it’s nearly as good as downtown favorites blue ribbon or Nobu.
The room is very basic- light wood walls and tables. The issue was with the “rules”.
As part of our meal, we ordered two salads. They were basic but come with excellent dressing. Unfortunately, it’s a tiny portion of this dressing. When I asked for a little more, I was informed there would be a fee. I found this laughable. The excuse was “we make it in house”. As opposed to what, ordering it from gristedes?
We ran into this again, when our maki was brought out. My friend asked for some spicy mayo. We were informed there was a charge associated with that.
Overall feedback- don’t charge $200 for dinner and nickel and dime your guests on salad dressing and side sauce.
The edamame was cold and unsalted. The sashimi deluxe platter was mediocre. The maki and pieces were very good, though the tuna and tofu piece was chewy and the worst it has ever been at gari.
FYI the fee for both were more than a beer.
I went for a date with my boyfriend—it was not a date kind of sushi spot. Lots of families, very bright, and very quiet. sushi was great and service ok. Would not recommend for a date. Great for families.
Tried to redeem an OpenTable gift card here and went through all of the prompts. Somewhere along the way, either OpenTable of the restaurant screwed up and didn't take the gift card. Ruined our anniversary and a rare night out for a couple of first-time parents. Pretty disgusted with either or both parties and feel that this needs to be rectified immediately.
Sushi was great though.
Omakase was creative and delicious. Authentic service
