Sushi of Gari - Columbus Avenue Ratings and Reviews
It was for casual lunch with my wife. Everything was really authentic and the fish was really fresh and tasty. Gari, green tea, vinegar, rice, presentation of all the meals, etc...every single detail was truly authentic. If you’d like to try very genuine Japanese Sushi at a relatively reasonable price, this is definitely a go-to place.
I understand the economics of running a good restaurant in NYC these days. It's really hard to make it work. Sushi of Gari on Columbus Avenue is a neighborhood gem, no question. I was there at 6:45pm on Saturday evening the noise level was actually painful. It was clear that there were too many people; we were sitting at a table for two with about 3 inches between each table. It cleared out eventually but it really spoiled the experience since we were not able to fully enjoy the amazing food.
Gari is one of my fav’s. I didn’t like the table by the window for a date given there is so much light. I would have preferred a banquette since I have said it was a date! Food last night was t as good as it usually is
I will still keep going back regardless
Lovely from start to finish - as always. Yes, it’s pricey but worth it. Food is always exceptional, high quality & nice sized portions. Service is very professional, just the right amount of discretion & attentiveness. Quick service from ordering to getting the food too!
It was a little disconcerting that the restaurant was so warm. Considering its raw fish. The AC was not working great. The sushi was fine but nothing to write home about. The waitress was lovely and attended to my Gluten allergy...but it's too expensive for a "blah" environment and so so food
First of all, the food is so great! Very nice try seating on the sushi bar and taste the chef menu. The only thing is the price is a little bit high if seating on the bar, but it still worth it. I would think about taking a table next time if it is not for special someone or occasion.
Given the alternatives for Japanese food on the Upper West Side, Sushi of Gari is terribly overpriced. I really don't know why I went back here after a previous visit. The $35 sashimi "special" nets you 5 pieces of sashimi and one piece of shrimp -- no joke.
You're better off elsewhere!
This location is good, but somewhat inconsistent with respect to the delivery of the sushi to the table. Sometimes the pieces are more prone to falling apart. Also, the sizing of the fish seems a little inconsistent as well. I prefer the location on 46th street.
Exceptional attention to composition combine with knowledgeable and friendly service in a traditional, unpretentious environment. Inventive, uncompromising combinations. High quality but if you are at all hungry and add some of the signature house sake be prepared to spend well over $100 per person. If you are a foodie or a true sushi fan I would say this place is well worth it.
