We had the omakase and it seemed a completely average dining experience, too expensive for the taste

Excellent food. My husband ordered the Gari Special and liked it more than Nakazawa. I had the sashimi dinner, which was very fine. Looking forward to visiting again.

Exquisite Omakase experience. The food was delicious but I’d say served too quickly and the wait staff was a little pushy but we did love it.

Superb, creative sushi. The “tuna of Gari” was out of this world terrific. Attentive, cheerful service.

The cold draft from the entry door needs to be remedied. And, of course, it's very expensive -- but worth it. Nothing like it in New York!

It was for casual lunch with my wife. Everything was really authentic and the fish was really fresh and tasty. Gari, green tea, vinegar, rice, presentation of all the meals, etc...every single detail was truly authentic. If you’d like to try very genuine Japanese Sushi at a relatively reasonable price, this is definitely a go-to place.

I understand the economics of running a good restaurant in NYC these days. It's really hard to make it work. Sushi of Gari on Columbus Avenue is a neighborhood gem, no question. I was there at 6:45pm on Saturday evening the noise level was actually painful. It was clear that there were too many people; we were sitting at a table for two with about 3 inches between each table. It cleared out eventually but it really spoiled the experience since we were not able to fully enjoy the amazing food.

Gari never disappoints, always the freshest fish and ingredients. Let the staff guide you for sake and sushi selections. It's easy to spend a fortune here, but not necessary their sashimi and sushi deluxe offer good value and variety.

Tasty as always and expensive as always. This time they decided to course our main sushi a la carte order instead of bring it out all at once. It was odd since they didn't mention it to us and have never done it before.

Gari is one of my fav’s. I didn’t like the table by the window for a date given there is so much light. I would have preferred a banquette since I have said it was a date! Food last night was t as good as it usually is
I will still keep going back regardless

I was meeting a college friend for lunch and we had a short amount of time to catch up so wanted good food in a casual but fairly quick environment. Gari met all of the requests. Great food, Lively, casual, fun.

Lovely from start to finish - as always. Yes, it’s pricey but worth it. Food is always exceptional, high quality & nice sized portions. Service is very professional, just the right amount of discretion & attentiveness. Quick service from ordering to getting the food too!

the food is always great-but the new people in front sitting you are rediculously inflexible, unprofessional-need to get the kind of emplyess you used to have greeting people-wake up sushi gari

It was a little disconcerting that the restaurant was so warm. Considering its raw fish. The AC was not working great. The sushi was fine but nothing to write home about. The waitress was lovely and attended to my Gluten allergy...but it's too expensive for a "blah" environment and so so food

First of all, the food is so great! Very nice try seating on the sushi bar and taste the chef menu. The only thing is the price is a little bit high if seating on the bar, but it still worth it. I would think about taking a table next time if it is not for special someone or occasion.

Excellent food as expected when compared with other Gari's places (TriBeCa). However, the Omasake was not a good value. We believe the price we paid, more sashimi variety had to be included.

Given the alternatives for Japanese food on the Upper West Side, Sushi of Gari is terribly overpriced. I really don't know why I went back here after a previous visit. The $35 sashimi "special" nets you 5 pieces of sashimi and one piece of shrimp -- no joke.
You're better off elsewhere!

Certainly one of the best "omakase" in NY. Even if the decor is disappointing, you will not regret this amazing experience: this tasting menu would be my last meal. A must do if you like sushis.

This location is good, but somewhat inconsistent with respect to the delivery of the sushi to the table. Sometimes the pieces are more prone to falling apart. Also, the sizing of the fish seems a little inconsistent as well. I prefer the location on 46th street.
