This place used to be amazing. Best sushi experience ever. Today was very disappointing. Won’t go back after going here for 20 years.
It was awesome experience !
Great food, warm and delicate service.
While this sushi is great, the presentation is beautiful, and the history is fabulous, the prices are just way over the top. There is no value for money in this conversation and frankly, there are better places to get ala carte sushi at much better value. The ambience wasn’t great. It was a downstairs, low ceiling environment.
Food is always excellent and so creative. V good house sake. Only disappointment was that the AC was not working well on a hot, humid evening
Food and service was fantastic! Not a huge fan of the bright lighting or carpet but overall, was exceptional.
By far the best sushi I’ve ever had. Was there once before to enjoy the Omakase and it was beyond incredible. This time we chose to order what we wanted and each piece of sushi and sashimi is so fresh that it melts in your mouth like it’s supposed to. The service is impeccable and it’s obvious that they genuinely care about this business. I am ruined for sushi anywhere else because nowhere will ever top this experience. I cannot wait to come back.
It was good but overpriced.
This is was a serious disappointment. We had decent expectations given the high reviews for this place, but nothing really stood out or was above average. The Omikase, both sushi and sashimi, were terrible. The best food item they served was the fatty tuna roll, which wasn’t all that special, but it surpassed everything served in all the rounds of the Omikase. One member of our party said the food was subpar to most every high end Japanese restaurant he has been to in the city. Another member of the party said she has had better sushi from grocery stores. Maybe it was just an off-night, but whatever the reason, half of the food ranged from unpalatable to downright inedible and ended up in our napkins.
By far and away the greatest sushi in NYC
Amazing!! Great service, my new favorite Gari location.
The best sushi I've had in years! Truly a wonderful experience, the service was outstanding
Gari 46 is our goto for reliably delicious pre-theater dinner.
best omakase i’ve ever had. each bite was mind blowing, and such a fun, flavorful and thoughtful take on modern sushi. also, best sake i’ve ever had. service was very attentive. wonderful from start to finish!
Disappointing. Staff keep trying to make us order the expensive dishes. Definitely won't be returning.
Delicious special lunch menu set.
Really amazing lunch special and a good value. Looking forward to coming back!
First truly bad experience there after many visits. In particular, at $15 a piece, I don’t expect any fish to be less than fresh. We were served uni that was so bad it needed to be spit out and left a horrible taste for the rest of the mean. 😔
Great truly enjoyable omakase - perfect balance Bw purist and inventive line up of sushi. Layered flavors, very often surprise you as you let a piece of sushi take its time to be enjoyed. As good - if not far better - than high end omakase in the city. Vibe is straightforward, nothing special - with focus on one thing.. food.
It was really great for the price. The service was very friendly and efficient and all the food was delicious.
This is the second visit for my wife and I to Sushi of Gari 46. We've also been to the original on the east side. We absolutely love both locations. Don't expect to leave here without a significant dent in your wallet, but if you love original sushi that is absolutely delicious then definitely make this a special location for those times you can or feel like you should splurge.
Sushi is always amazing!!!
Service was top notch and the food was great.
Sushi of Gari (at their 46th street location) was enjoyable! Sushi was fresh, tasty, and interesting enough that we didn’t mind paying the money for a first time experience here. As other diners have reported, it is pricey, so keep that in mind. If we weren’t as pleased with our meal, this might have been irritating, but it was great! We both got the tuna special, and a dessert. As I said, it wasn’t insanely creative or mind-blowing, but definitely above-average in terms of flavor combinations. Don’t go here expecting a cheap, casual roll— because that’s not what you’ll get!
Great but very overpriced
Marvelous Excellent Delicious perfect. Can’t wait to go again
The place is clean and nicely laid out. We sat at the sushi bar and had the chef's omakase special menu, which means he makes one piece of sushi at a time and you eat until you don't want any more (the cost mounts as you eat more). The service is very good and attentive. The sake was delicious though a tad more expensive than I'd like. The sushi was all very good and tasted fresh. The fish selection was not all that unusual. Many of the pieces had added accompaniments like a dab of sauce or a vegetable. Some of these additions were really nice. Some of them were unnecessary and took away the attention away from the fish. The piece of salmon with cooked tomato was not a great idea. The plain piece of fatty tuna was the best fish we had. 13 pieces of sushi, a carafe of the house sake and some ice cream came to almost $200 with the tip. For a special occasion, that's ok with me, but I'd like some variety with the fish. No question about the high quality of what they served or the service though.
Amazing quality. Omakase was 10/10. I will be back
The most exquisite sushi I've ever had. Unbelievably fresh, and creative, and subtle. Attentive and helpful service and hostess.
Do the Omakase chefs experience! Best sushi ever. So creative
We love sushi and enjoy Sushi of Gari uptown. This meal was terrible, starting with the wobbly table to the dried out Ikura to the inedible fatty tuna and greasy tempura etc etc. I rarely write reviews and never a bad review but given that this restaurant has a strong brand identity we were shocked.
Sushi of Gari is my favorite sushi restaurant in NYC. A+.
Excellent fish. Rolls choices were limited, but not sure it matters since the fish was so delicious. Best octopus that I’ve ever had. Salmon was super, as well.
It was great. Went before a show and it was QUICK. The Omakasa was lovely
Food was exceptional, we let the chef send us his best stuff that night, and it was great. Expensive by great.
Always some of the best sushi this side of Tokyo. A bit pricey, but worth it!
Outstanding food, the Omakaze menu is exceptionnel, and the service is top quality too.
A colleague recommended Sushi of Gari 46 saying they do the best sushi I would ever have and he was right. A bit pricey though.
Waste of money . Bad sushi. Overrated. Dont go. I ate better sushi at half price
I TOOK CLIENTS FOR A BUSINESS LUNCH AND THEY RAVED ABOUT HOW GOOD THE FOOD WAS, AND THANKED ME LATER BY EMAIL
