A Midtown West/Times Square location of this classic New York sushi restaurant. Sushi of Gari is a solid option for the area.
Been to Sushi of Gari three times, this was my first time on 46th st. Location is a lot bigger than the Tribeca location, and had wonderful service. The salmon with tomatoes is a must at any location. Also you can buy the little tea mugs that have the location on them! Very good food, and great service. Highly recommend.
We loved the Omasake tasting! Every bite was delicious. Can’t wait to go back.
The food and service were excellent. I always wanted to come here and glad I had the chance to.
Mediocre at best. Sushi didn’t seem all that fresh
The a eat Omikase ever
my first time at Sushi of Gari. Food was excellent, superb sashimi and a great choice. Wine list was great too. Vibrant atmosphere- I’ll be back.
Delicious and a great place to eat for a pre-show dinner.
The sushi was excellent. Service was fast and attentive. We will definitely go back.
Quality food. Impeccable service. Amazing from start to finish.
Took my husband here for lunch on his birthday. Sushi of Gari 46 is by far the best sushi we've had. Decided to spring for the Signature Omakase. I lost count, but I believe we had 9-10 pieces each of the chef's choice. Incredibly high quality seafood along with interesting ways of preparing the sushi led to a culinary experience like none other.
One needs to come with a deep wallet and know when to stop the chef from continuing to serve you more. Prices are high but you get what you pay for. Our bill (with a couple of non-alcoholic drinks) was $237 with tip and tax.
If you're happy with run-of-the-mill mall type sushi, this restaurant is probably not for you. For those who seek an authentic sushi experience, with creativity, well thought through flavors and presentation you'll enjoy Sushi of Gari enormously. No photos as we both felt it was kind of gauche to point and shoot at this meal. We wanted to concentrate on the experience.
We were looking for great sushi at a reasonable price, and Sushi of Gari 46 came through for us. We ordered two sashimi platters, the regular and the special, to increase our variety and to compare the quality. Both were excellent, but the special truly was special--the finest, melt-in-your mouth cuts, bursting with flavor.
This is not inexpensive dining, but the cost felt reasonable to us, so it was a good value. Highly recommended for a special occasion.
Sushi was sublime. Service was impeccable. Decor a bit tired.
The sushi was delicious but we felt rushed by the server which, to be fair, was probably not his fault as the omakase came out too fast. We hadn’t finished one plate before another had arrived. For what we paid to be so rushed was disappointing.
Good value, but not a good choice for valentine
I had an incredibly strange experience at this restaurant last night. We attended the restaurant based on the full menu we saw on OpenTable, excited about getting a few rolls and pieces of sashimi. We were sat and never given the a la Carte menu so we were incredibly confused to be given a partial menu that offered hot foods and Omakase options. After ordering a drink, my Husband and I just kept looking through the menu very confused at where rolls were. We couldn't flag down the waiter for a while, only when we asked where all the rolls were listed, we were told "oh so you want the a la carte menu?" If we have never been to the restaurant before, how would we know to ask that?? Once we FINALLY received the menu, we placed an order for 3 rolls and 4 pieces of sashimi to start. I asked for gluten free soy sauce (I have celiacs disease) and was told at that point that ALL rolls have gluten as it's in the rice. As an avid sushi eater who frequents Japanese restaurants, I have NEVER experienced that- and I always ask. I was unable to eat ANYTHING on the menu aside from sashimi, and couldn't even eat the eel one I ordered as I told it contained gluten as well. We had to cancel the whole order, and our sake had already come and the sashimi had been put in. The waiter was very kind about the whole situation, but We would have just left had the sake and sashimi not arrived. It was a really awful and uncomfortable experience, and we paid $60 with tip for 1 sake and 4 pieces of Sashimi. That is ridiculously steep, and we had to leave and find another Japanese restaurant- one which provided us with the full menu upon being seated, and one which had food I could eat. The whole experience was strange and uncomfortable. I'm beyond upset we paid $60 with tip to leave hungry and have to find another restaurant to eat at.
Outstanding service. Our favorite sushi in all of New York!
Food was great and our server was very helpful in explaining everything we had and steering us through choices. The venue is a little noisy and not a romantic or even quiet setting. I would come back because of the great food.
The best sushi I've ever had. Looked like art, tasted like concentrated happiness!
I love the foods in Gari. I will visit there soon again.
The sushi was excellent, as was service and ambiance! We will return.
Food was great and service was efficient. However the restaurant has adopted so many rules that seem to be for its own convenience rather than its customers. Hard to dine post theater since it now closes so early which seems odd for restaurant in theater district.
Terrible food and service. Also the ginger is left sitting in an open bowl just outside the bathrooms--gross!
Very good sushi and service, I would return. (I'm keeping the fifth star for the really superb). Prices made sense except for the saki offerings which were all marked way up; they need to have at least a few more modest choices, instead I took nothing so where's the win in that for them?
It's never going to be the most economical sushi, and that's completely fine. The food is superb, the wine list varied and pairable, and the service understated but responsive. Simply cannot go wrong here.
always very good omakase and great junmai daiginju house sake
The food is great!!
The y Only need to invest in furniture and design
For the category of the restaurant it deserves!!!
Love Sushi of Gari. Excellent quality and food but this location in particular feels a bit cramped and service is sped up due to theatre going customers. I would recommend the UWS or TriBeCa locations for a more leisurely meal.
Went here because it is close to theaters and had good reviews and good reputation. The service was good but a little rushed. We were in and out in 30 min with the chef tasting ($300 for a party of two). The food was very underwhelming and have been to much better for the price. I would not recommend this place for the price and other options in the city. We will not be back.
Naomi was the perfect date. We had the omakase and we had no complaints. Yohms was so pretty and so was the fatty tuna. Would recommend.
food is excellent, table service can improve with attention to
our needs— like first time i came here was much better
Excellent food and service. Worth the wait...you will wait for your table regardless of reservation time.
Everything was perfect.
The Omakasa is amazing but expensive. Great for special occasions.
This place had a fun ambiance, but for customers expecting a traditional sushi menu this place will throw you for a Loop. They push their chef tasting menu which I am sure must be great but they don't mention the a la carts menu with more classic rolls unless pushed on it. Also heads up the cucumber roll is wrapped in seaweed with a little kick! Overall the food was yummy!
The sushi was very good as was the rest of our food. But service was rushed. Felt like they were trying to turn over the table quickly. Noisy space with no privacy at all between tables. I wouldnt return as there are many better places to get high quality sushi in NYC
Delicious food. I felt flavors were very delicate, compared to other similar spots. A unique culinary experience and one of the best I have had in NYC. Prepare your wallet though. It has also been one of the most expensive ones.
We had the chef's special menu. 12 pieces of sushi.
Service was poor, in and out within an hour, and overpriced sushi.
Very disappointing. Won't recommend it to anyone.
