Great food but we felt rushed.
Not my first trip to this spot but happy to return. The food quality and portion size are outstanding and out standing couple that with the very unique and playful specialty bites and you have a very unique experience. The only critique I would I have is the staff could be a bit less robotic in that the give off an almost buffet server vibe and detached from the patrons, which is not a negative aspect just an observation. I will return if every in want of excellent sushi as I have done many times before and highly recommend to anyone.
Just fantastic. We recently discovered the chef's menu which totally changed the game. If it's on there, you must try it. Here are some that we took notes on that were just superb: Fatty tuna with pickles, Red snapper with salad, Salmon with sautéed tomato,Seared salmon, Squid sea urchin, King fish with creamy mushroom sauce, fresh macreel, and sautéed giant clam. As always, an always attentive wait-staff was present.
While the food was good, this was not a great experience. The ambience is quite dull and dreary, almost oppressive.
We also were just stopping in for light fare before a show, and were informed that we had not spent enough per person on food ($20) when we asked for the bill. This is a pretty unusual practice, and something that should have been noted somewhere, on the menu or by the waiter. As a result, we had to order another appetizer and eat it very quickly.
For a better sushi ambience, look across the street.
Excellent very enjoyable
Simply the very best sushi and experience in NYC. Cannot be beat!
Always nothing less than stellar
Very expensive, they recommended a sale that was over $150 but did not let us know, food is really good though, paid $750 for 5 people, too much
Love uptown Garis, both of them. Unfortunately, this satellite outpost pales to both uptown. Sushi tasted flat and not peak of freshness. Not bad sushi, just not Sushi Gari!
Best pre theater meal!
Gari Omakase is Still the best meal in town
Wonderful food and service. The omikase experiments with different flavors and textures that compliment the sushi. This last menu had more mackerel than I would’ve liked, but overall a wonderful experience.
Superb food and excellent service as always
Outstanding, innovative and fast which matters when you are going to the theater.
This was a fun sushi experience! A little stuffy of an atmosphere but worked great for before a show! The service was amazing!
this was our first visit. i'm not certain that we received all of the information we needed to make a proper dinner selection. we received a menu with limited choices but i think i saw an a la carte menu of sushi at another table. the fish we ordered was good and the service was nice.
I took my wife here for her 44th birthday. The staff was fantastic. They took the time to explain the menu options, and let us know about the pricing of the tasting menu (well worth it) so that there was no surprise bill. It's a great and short walk to Broadway.
Did not honor our 6pm reservation. Many empty tables, they would not reconfigure them to accommodate our party. They sent us OUTSIDE twice while waiting. Rushed dinner, had theater tickets. Surprised, as we’ve been there many times before. Rarely do I even write a review.
Amazing delicious sushi. Went with the omakase. Well recommended
Amazing tasting menu!
Front Staff is unfriendly
Awesome service and food
Was a lovely delicious and exciting menu. Enjoyed everything we got and ca not wait to return. Very attentive and helpful waiters just enhanced the experience.
What a disappointment — loved the one on the UWS but this is not that. I can handle small dark rooms if the food is right but this was so average it was sad. Nothing special, no real flavors but a cost that reflected a Michelin star restaurant. Over priced, weak food, ok service, nothing special ambiance. Sad. Would never have thought this was a Gari restaurant.
Service was very rushed and a staff person took garbage from the kitchen though the restaurant out the front door and it made a very foul odor. Food was fine but very expensive.
do the omekase, it was incredible and we asked for another round!
Sushi of Gari is not what it used to be! This was one of our go-to spots for Japanese and sushi, but not anymore. Limited menu, high prices, a boring wine list, and a very expensive sake list. Bottles of sake should be offered at every price level!
Sake options are limited. I like organic w/out added sulphites due to allergy. You should offer this. Also, my son ordered a sushi special and it came w/ eggplant sushi which he didn't like. The roll was crab which was also an inferior roll for the prices you charge. We love your food but it isn't close to good value. I ordered 4 special pieces of sushi and was happy to pay for that. It was delicious as was the Hijiki salad.
Food at its best ever bere, service efficient and helpful, improve premise and you will be come almost... perfect
Sushi of Gari chefs make some of the most unique dishes I have eaten. Very creative and very delicious.
Food is consistently excellent. Service too!
The omakase was great! But maybe not as worth as the deluxe sushi.
Came back because the sushi was worth it. A must have experience in NYC.
Loved every minute. Best sushi I have ever had in my life (and I’ve eaten a lot of sushi!)
I've eaten at both the upper west and theater district locations. Both are great - the fish is definitely at notch above the average sushi place. I look forward to it every time. Service is always very good and speedy (without feeling rushed). Huge fan of Gari!
Food, service and atmosphere was excellent. The fish was so fresh! We went for a birthday party and werent disappointed!
Must love the element of surprise. Menu is designed to leave choices up to the chefs. Very popular spot, so expect close proximity where table conversation appears shared with neighboring tables. Unique experience but very enjoyable.
Not worth it. Basic sushi, expensive price. Not even good.
This was quite possibly the worst sushi I’ve ever had, and I don’t say that casually. My daughter and I also got sick from the meal. And it was pricey for what it was. It was rated highly and I was very disappointed. The waitstaff was attentive but I truly couldn’t understand a word out server said.
The quality of food and sushi was really average at best.
Also ordered a chicken teriyaki which was soaked in their sauce. Underwhelming overall experience but admittedly I am spoiled by sushi in Asia.
