It was really great for the price. The service was very friendly and efficient and all the food was delicious.
This is the second visit for my wife and I to Sushi of Gari 46. We've also been to the original on the east side. We absolutely love both locations. Don't expect to leave here without a significant dent in your wallet, but if you love original sushi that is absolutely delicious then definitely make this a special location for those times you can or feel like you should splurge.
Sushi is always amazing!!!
Service was top notch and the food was great.
Sushi of Gari (at their 46th street location) was enjoyable! Sushi was fresh, tasty, and interesting enough that we didn’t mind paying the money for a first time experience here. As other diners have reported, it is pricey, so keep that in mind. If we weren’t as pleased with our meal, this might have been irritating, but it was great! We both got the tuna special, and a dessert. As I said, it wasn’t insanely creative or mind-blowing, but definitely above-average in terms of flavor combinations. Don’t go here expecting a cheap, casual roll— because that’s not what you’ll get!
Great but very overpriced
Marvelous Excellent Delicious perfect. Can’t wait to go again
The place is clean and nicely laid out. We sat at the sushi bar and had the chef's omakase special menu, which means he makes one piece of sushi at a time and you eat until you don't want any more (the cost mounts as you eat more). The service is very good and attentive. The sake was delicious though a tad more expensive than I'd like. The sushi was all very good and tasted fresh. The fish selection was not all that unusual. Many of the pieces had added accompaniments like a dab of sauce or a vegetable. Some of these additions were really nice. Some of them were unnecessary and took away the attention away from the fish. The piece of salmon with cooked tomato was not a great idea. The plain piece of fatty tuna was the best fish we had. 13 pieces of sushi, a carafe of the house sake and some ice cream came to almost $200 with the tip. For a special occasion, that's ok with me, but I'd like some variety with the fish. No question about the high quality of what they served or the service though.
Amazing quality. Omakase was 10/10. I will be back
The most exquisite sushi I've ever had. Unbelievably fresh, and creative, and subtle. Attentive and helpful service and hostess.
Do the Omakase chefs experience! Best sushi ever. So creative
We love sushi and enjoy Sushi of Gari uptown. This meal was terrible, starting with the wobbly table to the dried out Ikura to the inedible fatty tuna and greasy tempura etc etc. I rarely write reviews and never a bad review but given that this restaurant has a strong brand identity we were shocked.
Sushi of Gari is my favorite sushi restaurant in NYC. A+.
Excellent fish. Rolls choices were limited, but not sure it matters since the fish was so delicious. Best octopus that I’ve ever had. Salmon was super, as well.
It was great. Went before a show and it was QUICK. The Omakasa was lovely
Food was exceptional, we let the chef send us his best stuff that night, and it was great. Expensive by great.
Always some of the best sushi this side of Tokyo. A bit pricey, but worth it!
Outstanding food, the Omakaze menu is exceptionnel, and the service is top quality too.
A colleague recommended Sushi of Gari 46 saying they do the best sushi I would ever have and he was right. A bit pricey though.
Waste of money . Bad sushi. Overrated. Dont go. I ate better sushi at half price
I TOOK CLIENTS FOR A BUSINESS LUNCH AND THEY RAVED ABOUT HOW GOOD THE FOOD WAS, AND THANKED ME LATER BY EMAIL
Pre show dinner w friends. Excellent food, efficient staff, but the prices are excessive.
Very attentive and friendly staff, who were prompt with food and drinks. Quiet little place so has a light atmosphere. Closes earlier so felt like we were being rushed out the door. Food was good quality but coming from London for the price I would have been expect Nobu or Zuma quality food and that it certainly was not.
Super fresh omakase that was rooted in tradition with a contemporary twist.
Sushi is excellent!
Great food but we felt rushed.
Not my first trip to this spot but happy to return. The food quality and portion size are outstanding and out standing couple that with the very unique and playful specialty bites and you have a very unique experience. The only critique I would I have is the staff could be a bit less robotic in that the give off an almost buffet server vibe and detached from the patrons, which is not a negative aspect just an observation. I will return if every in want of excellent sushi as I have done many times before and highly recommend to anyone.
Just fantastic. We recently discovered the chef's menu which totally changed the game. If it's on there, you must try it. Here are some that we took notes on that were just superb: Fatty tuna with pickles, Red snapper with salad, Salmon with sautéed tomato,Seared salmon, Squid sea urchin, King fish with creamy mushroom sauce, fresh macreel, and sautéed giant clam. As always, an always attentive wait-staff was present.
While the food was good, this was not a great experience. The ambience is quite dull and dreary, almost oppressive.
We also were just stopping in for light fare before a show, and were informed that we had not spent enough per person on food ($20) when we asked for the bill. This is a pretty unusual practice, and something that should have been noted somewhere, on the menu or by the waiter. As a result, we had to order another appetizer and eat it very quickly.
For a better sushi ambience, look across the street.
Excellent very enjoyable
Simply the very best sushi and experience in NYC. Cannot be beat!
Always nothing less than stellar
Very expensive, they recommended a sale that was over $150 but did not let us know, food is really good though, paid $750 for 5 people, too much
Love uptown Garis, both of them. Unfortunately, this satellite outpost pales to both uptown. Sushi tasted flat and not peak of freshness. Not bad sushi, just not Sushi Gari!
Best pre theater meal!
Gari Omakase is Still the best meal in town
Wonderful food and service. The omikase experiments with different flavors and textures that compliment the sushi. This last menu had more mackerel than I would’ve liked, but overall a wonderful experience.
Superb food and excellent service as always
Outstanding, innovative and fast which matters when you are going to the theater.
