The Sushiko food philosophy is Cuisine of Subtraction. According to Creative Director Daisuke Utagawa, subtraction allows chefs to reveal the essence of each ingredient in it's most honest yet refined state. By subtly combining other ingredients, a taste sensation is created that demonstrates the complexity and beauty of nature for the eye and the palate.

A wonderful place in many aspects. But, most of all their food and drinks are sublime. You will not be dissapointed.
Hello Katia, Thank you so much for this awesome review. We are happy to know you enjoyed your time here.
Delicious food that was fresh and of high quality. I highly recommend.
Fantastic! My partner’s favorite spot
We had a 8 PM reservation and they stopped and close the kitchen at 8:30 so we had to put our full order and including the desert as soon as we Scott seated and I wish they would have the last reservation at 7:30 because I felt very rushed for the price and literally had to order everything all at once and the worst part is we ask the server is the brussels sprouts we’re going to get one order enough for the table and she said yes and then he came pretty probably only asked for more because it obviously wasn’t and she said sorry you can’t get another one and I just think that’s poor service so their last reservation should be at 7:30
Service was horrible and sushi was no impressive. Server had a bad attitude, didn’t even try to be helpful. Took away my nearly empty but not quite empty drink without asking. Plopped down a tray of omakase without explaining what was what. Was told on arrival at 7:45 that last call for food and drinks was at 8:15. Save your money or spend it at one of the other worthy sushi places in the city. Huge disappointment.
Really, this is what one expects from a restaurant. Service, attentiveness, details, great food, pleasant ambiance…it’s the complete package. From start-to-finish.
My son selected Sushiko to celebrate his 13th birthday, and we definitely weren’t disappointed. We’re infrequent diners simply because we like to cook, but we will definitely be back for the days when our own kitchen is closed. Thank you for a wonderful experience, but more importantly, for the great food.
Extremely fresh fish, attentive service, great selection. Can’t wait to go back.
Thank you Mike!
Excellent from start to finish!
Wonderful experience at Sushiko.
The food was exceptional as well as the service.
A cut above other sushi places in town.
I had the absolute best time ever and the waiter and staff were so amazing! Thank you sooo much!!
Sushi Ko never disappoints! Thank you for being my favorite Washington Japanese restaurant.
Service a bit slow. No soy sauce provided without asking. A bit noisy. Overheard conversations at several tables. Lighting too bright. Food was superb. Crab offerings a bit bland.
Wonderful spot, really catered to our requests with exceptional service.
Thank you Christopher! we are happy you enjoyed your experience here.
Best sushi around. My sister was visiting from San Francisco & suggested sushi for dinner. Of course, we headed to Sushiko, and were not disappointed. Three of us started with veggie tempura & crispy brussels sprouts (theirs are made with spicy soy caramel & are delicious!). Moved on to 3 types of rolls: rainbow, shrimp tempura, & double salmon. That was plenty, and we were all happy with our selections.
Wonderful sashimi and cooked dishes as well. My favorite sashimi is the kama toro aburi! Yum! Unusually for a Japanese restaurant, the desserts are great as well -- the shiro miso ice cream is to die for. Like salted caramel, only better.
Thank you for such a great review, we are pleased to know you enjoyed your experience at Sushiko.
Ever since it shut down and then re-opened for dining, the food is not the same. Our service was great but not the top quality sushi as we used to get at sushiko. Very sad!
Hello Kate, I am sorry to hear you were not pleased with the food. My name is Grace I am the manager here. If you would like to give me an email, I would like to know more about how we can improve. Thank you, Grace firstname.lastname@example.org
Food was terrible... flavorless. The pork cutlet was the best thing we had. A5 wagyu nigiri used to be a favorite... This visit was a big let down... Ive been here many times before and the quality was superb. What happened!?!? :/ I was underwhelmed with my birthday dinner.

They mislead you into thinking you reserved an outdoor table but then not available. Very disappointing given Covid concerns.

Best Japanese food in town. Consistently the best service and great food!
Thank you Debbie for the great review!
Our server was lovely and the service was perfect, not rushed but attentive. The food was of course delicious!
As always, Sushiko excelled at serving absolutely delicious Japanese cuisine in a relaxed atmosphere with great, attentive service. It’s my favorite DC area restaurant!
Their handling of the Coronavirus fears is OUTSTANDING!
We witnessed them sanitize tables with gloves after each guest left. They did their best to space patrons and made us feel incredibly safe. Until this global nightmare is over, I am thankful for Sushiko’s entire team taking it seriously.
We have been faithfully enjoying Sushiko for the last 15 years. having been to the Tsukiji Fish Market in Tokyo, and some of the higher end sushi spots in the DC area, Sushiko remains our absolute favorite sushi spot.
The fish is ALWAYS fresh. What makes Chefs Piter and Handry the best of all is their commitment to sourcing the finest fish no matter where. The specials are always awesome. Is the best uni coming from Tokyo this month? They’ll source it. The specials menu will always list where the fish is from, which is a cool feature.
We continue to appreciate their hospitality and the wonderful job the managers and servers (like Coco) do to make us feel at home.
We normally have sashimi and other seafood dishes, but this time, we opted for the chicken dumplings, the pork buns, and the pork ribs. Everything was outstanding, as always.
Food was excellent. But the place is very difficult to find. Even the Google map was not useful.
Lunch Bento Boxes are a great value, with soup, and variety of sushi, sashimi. Fish is always so very fresh. We always enjoy and have extra to take home. Service was excellent, attentive and quick. Always enjoy and will return.
Not sure if the fact that we came latter than usual is the reason but the service was rushed and not as attentive as usual. Still and all, one of the best sushi restaurants around.
Outstanding sushi, and really really appreciated the reasonable noise level in the dining area. We eat a lot of sushi, and Sushiko is clearly at the top of our list for both quality and lovely experience.
I came here for valentines day and the food was amazing and the staff was very polite and friendly. I would definitely recommend Sushiko.
Broke my rule and went out for dinner on V Day. Mistake. Some of the sushi must not have been properly refrigerated or sat too long before being served. I'll spare the details.
Wonderful cooked dishes in addition to sashimi! We had the ankimo (off menu), pork bunn, chicken dumplings, and egg drop soup. Totally delicious.
I’ve been to sushiko many times - and have always been of the opinion that their sushi is a cut above. It’s typically fresh, well prepared and presented in a wonderful and beautiful way. My experience last night was notably different. The sushi was ok - but only ok. It was just like the average sushi I get in so many other places. Disappointed. Service and ambiance are very nice.
Had the Bento box which is enough food to tide one over til suppertime...great price/value.
A true neighborhood gem. Inventive and delicious food. Service is amazing
Our server, Diana, was a gem. And the sushi was amazing. We tried the "tuna 6 ways," and I have never tasted fish so fresh and tender. It absolutely melted in our mouths. The sushi specials--hamachi from Spain and salmon from New Zealand--were excellent. The chicken gyoza (dumplings) were excellent as well. All in all, a spectacular experience!
Dinner with friends
Great service. Very responsive to allergens.
Every time we come back to Sushiko we have an amazing meal. Not only is the food delicious but the attention to detail in how the food is prepared is wonderful. And while everyone who works there is kind, attentive and provides wonderful service, my family asks to sit in Jason’s section if possible because he gets to know his patrons. He remembers us from visit to visit and at one point he brought our drink orders to the table right after we sat down (remembering from the previous visits). He adds to the enjoyment of our dining experience. We will happily return and recommend this restaurant highly
Okonomi 30$ was only 6 pieces.
If you go there to fill you stomach with sushi, don't go.
The sushi was wonderful, as expected. We were, however, surprised at how limited their sushi selection has become.
The sushi was not as good as it has been. Excellent service still.
