Sushi
The Sushiko food philosophy is Cuisine of Subtraction. According to Creative Director Daisuke Utagawa, subtraction allows chefs to reveal the essence of each ingredient in it's most honest yet refined state. By subtly combining other ingredients, a taste sensation is created that demonstrates the complexity and beauty of nature for the eye and the palate.

I was very happy to take my vegetarian date to Sushiko for a fun and varied meal. I wasn't sure what we could order, but ther were many different dishes to make a great meal for both of us. The staff was courteous and attentive. I plan to come here many more times.

It is my favorite restaurant in the neighborhood and one of my all time faves period. Great food, great service and just across the street from me. My neighbor and I meet for dinner at Sushiko once a month and always look forward to it!

The sashimi is outstanding, as one would expect, but the cooked dishes are superb as well. We love the rock shrimp tempura and the hot rock beef as well. Outstanding!

The edamame and sushi were delicious, so fresh and flavorful, and the service was excellent.
I didn't think that the banana tempura was very good. There wasn't much of a crunchy crust on it.

A truly wonderful and elegant sushi restaurant with consistently delicious and high quality food. The spicy green mussels are a gold standard menu item and are not to be missed!

To begin: We went there because the reviews said it was one of the most authentic Japanese restaurants in the area. To the contrary, it was nothing but authentic to a native-born Japanese foodie. We are still in quest to find a truly authentic sushi restaurant that doesn't cost us arms and legs.

After "a good selection of sake choices" --- it would help customers to choose from the list if sake list contained the prefectures where each sake is from and sake dryness/sweetness meter numbers. There was none such, so we had to go by the familiar names.

Sushi --- rice crumbled much too easily and was hard to eat properly. Nigiri means "lightly clench" so the rice and fish would stick together. The sushi chefs might benefit from specific training in a sushi place.

Waitress was friendly and efficient. Thank you.

Sushiko is dependably great. It is a step above the usual Japanese fare and in ambiance as well. It is also amenable to diners being able to structure their own dining experiences. We had one person eat a main dish, another combine 2 appetizers and a third eat soup and sushi. You will pay mire for this experience, but it won’t disappoint.

This was a very nice, quiet restaurant. The service was fast, and the food was good. But the food was really nothing special to justify the high cost. The website menu is outdated. It advertises a SUMMER OMAKASE MENU for $50, that we were hoping to have. However, the restaurant now has an AUTUMN OMAKASE MENU for $75.

Service started out strong. Unfortunately we were forgotten after our appetizers. We had to ask for the last part of our order (which arrived in a not so fresh state). Never got the glass of wine we ordered either. Rather disappointing a this price point.

Average sushi for the price. The rice really didn't have any taste and it certainly wasn't as good as we all remembered from the last time we were there about a year or more ago. I'd find another place to try if you're in that area.

Sushiko has some of the freshest sushi in the DMV, but its prices are very high, even for top quality sushi. $4.50+ for one piece of nigiri? I make sure I never come hungry to Sushiko.

I am puzzled by the lack of affordable, solid sushi options in Upper NW-DC and lower Montgomery County. It’s unfortunate, because I’m sure there’s demand for it.

Over the past few years, there has been a terribly sad decline of a once wonderful restaurant. I hope it can recover.

Omakase it was so ordinary that it was disappointing; and certainly overpriced for what it was. Next time I want a unique experience, I will go somewhere else.

Sushiko is wonderful -- raw fish (e.g., sashimi) and cooked dishes as well. Our favorites are the rock shrimp tempura, the soft crab kara age, and the broiled branzino. The desserts are spectacular as well, especially the passion fruit concoction.

Good food, fast and good service (we were a little pressed for time and were in&out in 45 minutes).
We had the restaurant week tasting menu and nothing disappointed. The seaweed salad and fried eggplants were particularly tasty.

My sister and I had a great Restaurant Week dinner at Sushiko. We were celebrating her birthday, and the wonderful server brought a surprise complimentary dessert of fried-ish bananas and cinnamon-y ice cream. The service was fantastic and the food excellent. Between the two of us, we ordered all options on the Restaurant Week menu; all were tasty but the standouts were the sashimi, the grilled salmon, and the age-dashi. The green tea cream (plus the surprise birthday dessert) were a perfect close to a delicious meal, and experience!
