Sushi Kai - Harrah's Lake Tahoe Ratings and Reviews
The food was disappointing here. Please note that we only had the sushi, but since sushi is in the name we expected more. The roll we had was not made well, in fact was so bad we had to ask for it to be remade. The sashimi was average at best, not nearly the value paid for it. The service was very good.
I was a bit disappointed in my experience at Sushi Kai. It took quite some time before anyone acknowledged our table. The food was good except for the fact that none of our sushi rolls were cut all the way through, so that proved to be extremely frustrating trying to get a sushi roll with chopsticks! It was New Year's Eve and they didn't do anything to make it special for their customers. Plus the ventilation sucked! I was the person in our group of seven that planned our New Year's night celebration and I guess I let me peeps down.
The restaurant was not busy but our appetizer crab rangoon came out with the main course and cool. I asked for extra spicy on the curry chicken but the waiter brought out the red sauce to add on later. Food had no flavor but it did come out hot.
Walked into the bar because they were running 15 minutes behind on our reservation. Bar was covered with half filled & empty glasses, dirty plates and food particles scattered everywhere. Bartender was nice but this should not be the 1st thing you see when walking in. Service was terrible. We waited for just about everything. Food was fair - nothing exceptional as advertised. Waiter was more interested in cleaning up the tables and resetting them so he could go home instead of waiting on us. Please note that we were there at 8pm and the restaurant closes at 9:30 so we weren't holding anyone up.
Great for sushi and other Asian dishes. My favorite sushi is the seven star roll, but the other rolls with tempura soft shell crab shrimp are also delicious. They have small bowls of hot and sour soup, miso, and egg drop, but we opted for the wonton soup. They say it serves four, but we were two hungry girls and it was tasty and plentiful. Then we had our sushi and we were stuffed. On the menu are many regular noodle dishes, chicken and pork dishes, and seafood dishes. We have never been disappointed here. The staff is very attentive and eager to please.
I made a reservation at sushi Kai for my boyfriend and I on open table, before I told them I had a reservation they said were fully booked up. So I told them I had a reservation. Our reservation was at 7. We got there at 655. She said "oh well it's not til 7" it's like they didn't want us to eat there. They were Very rude. When I got inside the place was completely empty, 1 table. The Food was okay, defiantly over priced and By the time we left there was only 2 more tables that came. The place was completely empty. I do not recommend going there.
Food was good.
Hostess attitude not so much, we were told that there was no available tables, and I saw empty tables and bar sits open, we practically begged to give us a seat, coz we just wanted to eat. Hostess said: "it is Reservation only trough Open Table and they are all booked! " S
o, I said:: really? what do u want me to make this reservation? Which didn't make any sense to me, as if u have table why ask us to reserve it. So, practically in front of her I did make reservation, in 10 min and there were more times open.
SO, I come, and say: we have reservation. She was SADLY surprised, and said that will call to manager to find out if they can accommodate us and how to handle this situation. on the top of 15min spent there already we spend another 15 waiting for them to call and do I have no idea what. Eventually we were given place at the bar. Later I noticed that they had multiple tables open. So, this is the attitude...
We had very high expectations for this restaurant and they were definitely not met. Service was very poor, we had to track a waiter as nobody came to our table....there were not many people there, so it can't be because he was too busy. They ambience is like a cafeteria. Our view was of a huge wine rack and boxes. The half booth was built for midgets and was not at all comfortable.
But.....the food was very, very good. It is still worth going there for the food...just do not have any expectations of getting treated special by the wait staff.
This was our third visit to Sushi Kai and we we chose Sushi Kai for our last dinner at Harrah's Lake Tahoe before going home the next day. The Sushi quality is excellent, really fresh! The rolls are delicious and are beautiful to look at. On all three visits we have had exceptional service, excellent food and a very pleasant overall experience. We will definitely visit Sushi Kai again!
We went to Sushi Kai twice on our visit to Lake Tahoe at Harrah's in November 2016 and once before in May 2016. The food here is excellent and looks beautiful too. The service was good and we had an overall very pleasant experience. We will definitely come here again on our next visit.
The 3 of us ordered a black bean chicken soup dish that serves 4 and was 45 usd. It was so bad that we hardly touched it, and some of the chicken looked raw. Fortunately, we had each also ordered a sushi roll. Those were fine. They forgot to put our soup on to heat so we had to wait awhile. The waiter apologized. Then he had to apologize again for the delay. He could see that we hardly touched that big pot of soup. He just kind of smiled as if to empathize but did not offer anything, such as free dessert. We were very dissatisfied with this place.
We dine at Sushi Kai at least once per visit to Tahoe. Sometimes 2 times a stay. We were looking forward to this meal and were very disappointed in the food. We order pretty much our same favorite items each time. The items were different in appearance and taste. There was no flavor what so ever in any of the 4 items we ordered. I mean zero. Not even the flavor of soy sauce could redeem our meal. The saving grace was the sushi we ordered. The hostess and wait staff were excellent as always. We were told there was going to be a menu change this week. We will look forward to trying it in the near future with hopes that the experience will be much more satisfying.
