It was evident that the sushi was pre-made and dry.
Food and service was great. Do not recommend sitting at window table near the door. Major draft and I was freezing. Def plan on going back.
Happy hour drinks cannot be beat. Sushi is top quality and service is very good.
The food at Sushi Damo is consistently good and well prepared. The sashimi was very fresh and the Udon soup was exceptionally tasty. The staff is courteous and attentive. I'll go there again.
This spot was underwhelming at best. I eat sushi all the time and can honestly say the food was only OKAY and felt overpriced for how average it tasted. Any tempura sushi was too fried and dried out - I'd stay away from those menu items. We ordered the lobster tempura specialty roll and it was so battered and crunchy we couldn't even taste the lobster. Really was hoping for a better experience...but the ambiance and the service were totally fine.
We really enjoyed the sushi and salads. The service was quiet and efficient.
I have been eating lunch at sushi damo damo on the rare occasions that I’m able to get away from my desk for my lunch hour (about once every two months) for the last 15 years. It is the one of the few restaurants in the Columbus Circle area that is consistent in food quality, taste, service and cleanliness - all of the above being top-notch. I especially like the bento boxes since they contain a nice variety of menu items served after a comforting bowl of miso soup.
The food was very good; the service was fine. Best of all, my wife and I were able to carry out a relaxing conversation without raising our voices. We enjoyed our window seat, watching the street scene on 58th Street. The occasion was a Sunday afternoon performance of Chamber Music at Lincoln Center; the distance was just right for a nice walk before and after dinner. We will definitely go here again.
I'd recommend Sushi Damo as good sushi restaurant to avoid! Food was mediocre til I ordered a tempura roll which was brought to me in less than 3 minutes. It was cold, tough, and obviously
left over for some reason. However, it gave me the reason not to go back here. Let all prospective buyers beware!
This is a great place if you are looking for a good quality sushi. The service is amazing and the ambiance is always nice....
Pretty good food and presentation. The authenticity of the wasabi is called into question, but the Sushi Rolls are excellent.
Mediocre food, but the staff was great. The dining room was attractive and quiet. We weren't anxious to go out into the 10-degree weather, and we never felt rushed to leave. I hope that we caught the kitchen on an off night, because the restaurant could be a winner.
The food was on-par with anything else you will find in NYC, not much to brag about. The mixed drinks poured were extremely strong and the waitress took the drinks before we were finished with them,
Quiet place with a relaxed atmosphere. Good for easy discussion without having to raise your voice. The food is good.
This was my third time at Sushshi Doma and the food was great!
The sushi was excellent. The menu has a great deal of variety. The service was excellent. The space is neither too crowded nor noisy. We would go back as many times as we could!
I've had the opportunity to walk by this Sushi Damo many times and always thought it would a nice, quite place to enjoy dinner. Therefore, I made a reservation to go there for my husband's birthday. The moment we walked in, the noise level was loud and I felt like I had made a mistake going there. But the service was good, the meals were good, and the seat by the window was good. But none of it was extraordinary. I do not like to lower my expectations when eating out, and I'm finding that so many restaurants in New York that are rated highly aren't that good and they are always noisy.
Una opción de sushi pero algo le falta no estoy seguro si es en decoración o en servicio. Será cuestión de darle una oportunidad.
I have never been disappointed with dinner at Sushi Damo. Creative dishes and all yummy!
Delicious modern sushi! I had a spicy sashimi platter that serves up delicately laid out pieces with a custom made minced pepper dressing that totally pops! I'm coming back for more!
Go to spot for good sushi in Columbus Circle. Brought my wife's visiting Mother (from Korea) here for some good quality sushi on Saturday night and we were not disappointed. We've been coming here for a few years and always leave happy (and full). A few reasons why...
1. Great cocktails served by an always happy bartender
2. Sushi is consistently fresh and tasty
3. Menu offers a lot of variety from traditional to trendy
4. Service is warm and friendly
5. Atmosphere is modern, clean and classy
6. Location near Columbus Circle and Lincoln Square (also close to Theater District)
7. Reasonable Prices
Really love this place and highly recommend!
The Best sushi in town 😄The thunder Rolls and the Fuyu Rolls are amazing and they have good cocktails as well
Since we discovered Sushi Damo, we can no longer enjoy a sushi dinner in Westchester, where we live. Besides the sushi, the miso soup and shumai are extremely good. Great service, efficient and friendly. Had the drunken shrimp appetizer (happy hour) for the first time and it too was terrific. The food is worth the cost.
If you're looking for something to eat, this is a good place to go.
Everything was very nice. Food was delicious and service was attentive and polite. I wouldn't say it wowed me but it wasn't meant to. Great restaurant to catch up with friends. Yummy food. Definitely reccomend.
Each I've gone to sushi damo, I felt I was being rushed to leave, they bring all food together soooo fast and always get you the check without asking for it. I go for dinners to relax and not to be stressed out. Also, their decoration and table set up is horrible, be ready to listen to everyone's conversation around you and certainly they will be doing the same since they would be sitting less than an inch away . Will not be back, so many other sushi places to go to.
Good but some room for improvement.
The tiger roll was amazing! Definitely a must try. Service was on point and overall atmosphere was great
Good sushi, nice rolls, all the food was delish. I would totally go back again.
Love Sushi Damo... It's become our Sushi Go To spot when in the city.
Why? Location is great being so close to Columbus Circle. Food is always good... This visit we tried the Duck App and loved it. My favorite is their Spicy Tuna Roll, which we have during every visit. The Bar, small but always welcoming. The bartender is very kind and makes a great Martini... We love the fruity type, like Peartini or Lycheetini... Sometimes the Chocolate Martini.
Finally, the service. Everyone is extremely friendly and attentive. Never have we had a bad experience at Shushi Damo.
Great experience. We were looking for a place to eat before an event at Carnegie Hall and found this through OpenTable. It was a good sushi bar and Japanese restaurant. Food was good and there were people in there with children who were obviously regulars. We had a quiet table in the corner and enjoyed our meal.
Fine sushi place to where I'd go back. Among the best miso soups that I've had and the $28 sushi combo is definitely a decent price when compared to other places of similar quality.
While the fish was extremely fresh, the rice was very good but not my favourite in terms of consistency (being a bit nit picky).
I left before I could even try the food. After waiting over 10 minutes and observing the table next to me flailing their arms in the air so they could get a servers attention to try and order, and still not being greeted or offered water, I had seen enough and I left.
I went to Masseria Dei Vini right down the street and had a fabulous experience.
Not going back to Damo- ever
The food and location are really great. Very fresh selection of seafood and rolls. Fairly priced, too.
Great rolls. Attentive staff. Would recommend if you are looking for a quieter more low key sushi experience in NYC.
Great sushi. My go to neighborhood place. Bit pricey and staff is not as attentive.
Excellent apps sushi and hot dishes as well
Will be back soon
We are here on Saturday night because it was somewhere that the two of us could eat. My boyfriend loves sushi whereas I hate it, so sometimes it's difficult to please both of us. I had the chicken teriyaki which was yummy and my boyfriend had 3 different types of sushi rolls. My only bad point about this restaurant is I would like the option to use a knife and fork or chop sticks. I found it difficult to eat my dish without a knife to cut the chicken and veg smaller. Apart from that it was great.
Afraid that the sushi was mediocre - we've had much better at half the price. We were disappointed especially since it had good reviews.
No air condition. So I left.
