Food was very good and we went through most of our meal wonderfully. However, this was all overshadowed by the extremely lowsy service. Our waitress came to our table twice during the entire service, once to take our orders and another because we called her over for more bread.
We alsofelt neglected and rushed. After asking a busser for the check (because the waitress was nowhere to be found for 15 mins), all of the plates were promptly taken away, one of which I wanted to bring home for leftovers. The entree was mostly untouched because my friend was not feeling well yet they did not even ask.
Food was great but I left feeling extremely sour over the experience.
Off the beaten path and worth the visit.
II took my dad for lunch and we really enjoyed the food and atmosphere . The salad was enough for two, my main course was sea bass, my dad had steak. Both came with delicious vegetables. The food was flavorful, not salty. The waiter was helpful and friendly.
My 3 daughters and I had a great time at Surfish to celebrate a birthday. The cocktails were delish, the food amazing and the staff was very friendly and professional. We loved the drum playing with the happy birthday song! Great place! Looking forward to going back soon!
Can’t go wrong with any of the items on the menu. Delicious cocktails!
The food was truly amazing. I rarely write reviews but am happy to do so to support such a wonderful, delicious and fun restaurant. Loved it and will be back again soon.
From the chips served before the tapas to the entree each bite was a mouthful of flavor. I am so glad we finally decided to try Surfish as we are definitely coming back as we decided we will try all of the tapas.
This place never disappoints. Yet to have one thing on the menu that wasnt great.
GREAT FOOD BUT NOT SO GOOD SERVICE, VERY GOOD FOOD BUT SERVICE WAS LOUSY
Food and service are amazing, wish the location was more appealing, but worth the trip!
One of my favorite restaurants!
The food was actually quite good except the ceviche wasn't what I expected but did taste very fresh. All in all I would recommend. However, we had a very disinterested waiter who made us feel like we were bothering him by being there. That brought down our overall experience since we'd never been there and the food was'nt exceptional enough to make up for the service.
The food was very good, especially the black paella. We were eager to taste their ceviches which were excellent but rather small for the price.
It was a great experience. We were seated as soon as we arrived. Although he second floor was closed, due to low restaurant volume, it was still cozy and great vibes/atmosphere. the waitress was very knowledgeable about the menu and good choices for first timers visiting the restaurant. we enjoyed the lamb with quinoa polenta, the grilled, octopus and the steak and potatoes. it was all delicious. it left such a memorable taste I can't wait to go back. they also had live music.
The food taste really good and the presentation of the dishes are pleasing to the eye. Prices are good and food is fresh.
food was excellent, service was very good, waiter was attentive to our needs.
Very friendly, comfortable atmosphere, mainly seafood and pork and vege but delicious! Highly recommend!
Have been meaning to stop in like forever. Finally made it an occasion to celebrate a birthday .There were five of us ($300 with tip: 2 apps, 5 meals, 3 desserts, drinks). The service, food, ambience were all great. Will come back just for drinks as well some time - nice intimate looking bar.
Ceviche and brussel sprouts were my favs! Warm and welcoming place :) . Highly recommend!
Food was distinct and outstanding! Service was attentive, friendly and professional.
Luckily they were able to accommodate last minute reservations for Valentine's day. Big thanks for that save lol. The food is amazing!!! So many flavors and just pure delicious. Service was very slow and at times seemed like they were more focused on leaving at the end of their shift than on the tables. I noticed many tables took 20+ mins just for simple dessert. The food made up for it but service could definitely improve.
The best pisco sour ever. Better than any I ever had in South America Worth going back for just for that The Flan was very nearly as good. The menu is a mix of raw and cooked tapas along with more complete main courses and sides. The ahi with grilled pineapple the prawns and the short ribs were all to die for. I remember the chef being on Knife Fight as a finalist and made a plan to visit his restaurant the next time I was in New York sadly it had to wait a while but no disappointments highly recommended. It was worth the one hour subway trip very easily
My husband and I ate at Surfish for Valentine’s Day. Super impressed with the food and service. Also, pleasantly surprised that we weren’t seated too close to the people beside us, like you might see in most NYC restaurants. We were very comfortable and had a great time.
We made a reservation for Brunch. The portions were filling and the culinary attention to detail is well noticed; great uses of flavour. We intend to return again soon to try more of the menu!
I'm big fan of Surfish. My one complaint is that even though I made a reservation, I was seated upstairs. The upstairs, though spacious, is much less cozy and comfortable than the street level.
Excellent fresh food, good service. Highly recommend
I love this place!
This is our second time dining with friends at Surfish, and it has been a delight both times. The food is unusual, but accessible. Everyone has truly enjoyed their meal and the ambience. On a Saturday night, with large parties, it can be a little noisy. Come for a week day dinner if you appreciate a slower pace and vibe.
One of my favorite places! The manager, Magda, and the rest of the Surfish staff are phenomenal! I even had a holiday event here with my job and it was just perfect. Always love coming back for the great food and ambiance! #TeamSurfish
Great food! Both exquisite and hearty at the same time!
Surfish Bistro is one of the most delicious restaurants in NY. Awesome modern Peruvian dishes with fresh ingredients. The food is VERY GOOD, don't take my word for it, go and check it out. We loved the Maduros Gnocci that unfortunately are not in the menu anymore. Instead they replaced them with sweet potato ones (probably because of the season) and they're delicious, too. Great ceviche, meat, octopus, ... order a bunch of plates to share and experience a little bit of everything. Awesome pisco sour cocktails on different flavors, Cusqueña Peruvian beer. A neighborhood gem. We were so sad they closed their second location on 5th Ave, but we love to come and support them here whenever we have a chance.
never get tired of the food....always excellent...and fresh and people are great......
Excellent food! Been to many Peruvian restaurants; this one has excellent food: good creations and selection of ingredients.
We eat at Surfish often. At most restaurants, we have 1 or 2 favorites; at Surfish, choosing our meal is a challenge because there are so many things on the menu we love. The ceviches are great, and there are always some new ones to try. Love the taquitos, mussels, ribs, corvina, lomo saltada, and many other standards. Last night, we tried 3 special appetizers (all were great) and duck lo mein, which was new to the menu and a big winner.
The restaurant is casual, and service is friendly and timely. And, very tasty sangria certainly adds to the meal.
It was very welcoming and staff was attentive. Food excellent and drinks were delicious. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Surfish was an outstanding dining experience. The food, the ambience and the service was all incredibly good!
Chef Miguel Aguilar brings a great view of Peruvian food. Original and full of flavor! His wife is the hostess and provides a high level of culinary service to the patrons. The pair provide a culinary experience good for any occasion. Patrons can rest assured they will walk away wanting to go back soon!!
Just wonderful. Great food, nice people, reasonable pricing, warm vibe.
We were in Brooklyn NY to see our son who is a resident at a hospital there. We went to Surfish for lunch. The food and service were excellent. I would recommend the place to anyone who wants to try Peruvian food. We loved the paella, the salmon in coconut milk sauce and braised ribs, the items we ordered. The sliders were excellent. Excellent food that was prepared really well. The service was outstanding. We bought our son a gift card for two for him and his wife. Check this place out if you are in NYC or Brooklyn.
