my friend and I enjoyed a good meal of mango salad and a sampler of 3 delicious fishes -- we spent more than we normally do (and would have spent at their 5th Ave location, which was mysteriously closed) but we were celebrating --

Great ceviche. Get the sampler for a little taste of 3 different types. Skirt steak entrees and shrimp dish was delicious. Pisco sours were tasty!

We went before catching a comedy show. There was practically no one there at 5 which meant we had a ton of attention. The pisco was beautiful and tasty. The ceviche was perfectly acidic, and the seafood soup was tasty and filling. Well worth the pick. We hope we can come back in years to come.

One of my top choices for Peruvian food in New York. Dishes are a bit more modern than the traditional dishes out there (FYI). I recommend the lamb as it almost melts in your mouth. The anticuchos are super tiny compared to typical servings elsewhere but they are delicious! Totally worthy. Also, make sure you rinse your mouth after having the paella because all the squid ink will leave your mouth and teeth all black ;)

We go often, and the experience is always consistent--and good! Interesting menu and all served beautifully. Appeals to all palates from adventuresome to "meat and potatoes." A local gem.

The food is incredible, portions are giant. When there was a mistake made with my leftovers for carry-away, the manager was so kind and accommodating.

So so delicious, flavorful. One comment for the restaurant - the font on the menus is a bit small and hard to read, especially if the lighting is a bit dim.

Thank you for the service and hats off to the chef!

My friend and I tried Surfish Bistro for the first time last Saturday. I've been planning on trying it out due to my love for Peruvian cuisine.

I was not disappointed. Everything from the drinks, the food, to the service was amazing. Our waitress was friendly, hospitable and attentive giving great drink recommendations. The food was delicious. We had the tapas and the Lomo entree.

I'll definitely be back!

Everything was delicious. They have live music on Tuesdays (which is when we went: a great jazz trio, unexpected bonus).
We particularly loved the salmon ceviche (on skewers): out of this world.

I've been wanting to check out Surfish for a while now, glad I made it. There's live jazz on Tuesdays and a decent happy hour menu. What I wasn't crazy about was how long it took to get service, I didn't get a sense of what the happy hour specials were, either I was drinking or my friend was drinking, we rarely had drinks at the same time. The food was decent. I can't say I loved it, there have been other Peruvian restaurants that I've gone to where I had a far better service and food... so it was cool.

I'm sorry but, terrible. I was expecting a lot more due to the reviews. I am peruvian and there was not a single dish that would taste as back home. Ceviche tasting: 1st they made a mistake and sent a ceviche we didn't order. We had pulpo, tuna and mixto. The only one kind of .... okay, it was the mixto ceviche. The tuna I've found it in Mexican restaurants, same preparation and the pulpo it was eatable. The problem was the we weren't told about olives being part of the dish. I don't have allergies but I definitely don't eat olives or like the taste, so this ruin the ceviche for me. Papa a la huancaina, also had olives on top as a sauce, which we had no idea because the server was useless. When we got to the restaurant another couple was there and the second floor was closed. The server was playing around with other coworkers and kissing the bartender which obviously made her busy. We had to ask for water a couple of times. She did not ask us about the drinks until we were half way there. Both were spicy so a little bit of more attention to refill the water would have been appreciated. Another mistake, the rice and beans side had pieces of pork and I DO NOT EAT PORK. I am vegetarian, so HUGE mistake there. I asked her what was it that the flavor was very intense and that's when she said oh maybe because of the pork. She did not apologize, all she said was "well, they always do it this way". We still paid for it of course. I had to call her again to ask for the check because she was already seating at the bar with her boyfriend the bartender doing paperwork and rubbing his back. Really annoying to be honest. I wouldn't come back just because she made us feel out of place. Also because it is obvious that she has NO knowledge that preparation, allergies or dietary restrictions exists. Useless from head to toe. My husband still left 20% tip because we both work in the restaurant business. As a courtesy but not because she deserved it.

VERY BAD. Sorry Chef Aguilar

I took my husband here for "brunch" this Father's Day. We've been to the 5th Avenue location so I knew the food would be good. We had noon reservations and was seated immediately. However once we were seated we were told they were not serving brunch due to Father's Day holiday. Instead they were serving the dinner menu (at noon). Everyone that walked in after us looked equally confused about the dinner menu being offered during brunch hours.

I wish they had updated their website to reflect the "special occasion " menu AKA dinner menu. I understand they want to take advantage of the holiday to increase sales but try to make the customers feel like they are getting something a special due to the holiday like offer a Father's Day brunch menu or add a glass of champagne to a prix fixed menu not just change the brunch menu to a dinner menu without notice for monetary reasons.

On another note, we had the Cheviche Mixto, plaintain, fish taquito, and steak. The food was amazing!! I will definitely go back but the last minute change of the menu left me feeling like I was taking for a ride.

I brought my fiance here as a celebratory graduation dinner (it's a bit out of my price range for a date night). The food as a whole was fantastic - my only complaint was that one dish was a bit over-salted but I was definitely able to overlook it. The drinks were crafted well and strong. My major issue was the service, although the waitstaff was nice and informative - they are not very attentive once the place began to fill up. Between courses it was hard to get their attention and the food took some time to come out which wouldn't have bothered me if I wasn't so hungry. Overall I'd definitely go back for another special occasion because the food was truly the star but I would make sure to order everything at once so I wouldn't need the waiters' attention throughout.
