Not coming back and wouldn't recommend. Even with a reservation for Mothers Day, my daughter and I weren't allowed a quiet table on the porch where there were several reserved tables that sat unused till we left. They sat us on a picnic table set on uneven ground outside, along with the other Asians, I noticed.
Never mind that--I was just happy to sit after a 2 hour drive from the east bay.
Server was nice and cheery. Calamari is cold and pitiful, no flavor at all, not even the batter, just the taste of cornstarch. Same with the poke and the fish taco.
Surf spot? with no view of the water, just the parking lot.
This has become our weekly go-out spot. Great for kids. Great for adults. Lots of TV's inside, fire pit outside. A bit breezy, but sometimes that perfect. Live entertainment sometimes too. The new menu and chef have made this place a winner for us!
We love the tots - they're so delicious, and you can get them with nearly anything, or a side order. The salads and other foods are really good, too. Service is casual and very good - the servers are super friendly and easy going. Place is a tad loud, all hard surfaces, and a tad cold (even inside) but overall casual dining in a fun setting. We go often b/c it's a good, easy family friendly place. And again - the tots!!!
Fun place, it was to cold to eat outside but great patio. Had the surf burger, really rich, fries were great.
We were not monitored sad
SurfSpot always has reliable food and a good wine list. It's a great place for a group that likes beer, wine, or cocktails. The food seems slightly less good than it has been in the past but it's not terrible, just not as good as it has been. This is a GREAT place to dine with a kid. The staff is friendly to children and there is a large area to run around when they get board. But, bring back the crayons!
There were so many different servers taking care of our meal and several of the meals came out incorrectly! The first guy dropped half of one of our appetizers, but served the rest anyway and did not follow up. None of the main dishes came out at the same time and we waited a long time for our wine. After so many mistakes, one meal was supposed to be on a gluten free bun, but we were not at all confident they got it right, so sent it back a few times, trying to get confirmation that the order was correct. It was extremely inefficient, but everyone was very nice.
Fun as always. Thank you!
Great flavors, biiig portions. We noticed right away that they have a new chef - BRAVO! The fish tacos were awesome, meat fell right off the bone, kalbi app was fantastic. My side salad was a great size and so fresh! I almost stopping coming here, so glad we gave it another try! Will definitely be back - with friends!
I do like Surf Spot and I'll be back. However, it's sad to hear that they've hired a new chef and took off my favorite item on the menu which is their meatloaf sandwich.
Yum and fun!
Nice atmosphere, large patio, friendly staff. Terrible food.
Order was very slow though place not too crowded. Grilled pork chop was great!
Friend ordered Margarita pizza with sausage added. Was awful!
Margarita's are not supposed to have fresh tomatoes. Made the pizza wet and mushy. Crust was fine, but sausage had nasty taste. So experience was half good, half bad. We do like the casual atmosphere.
Harry is wonderful. Quick and efficient especially with getting the check out.
Restaurant was closed even though it was open online.
This visit was an okay service. I'm lumping the rating with the time that we had reservations but were then told once we got there that the kitchen was backed up over an hour. Wtf!
Like the food but wish it was a little quiter for talking
It was the worst experience
I yelped about it during the hour we sat with the worst long island ice tea either of us ever tasted then left to find a restaurant that Would actually bring the food we ordered.
Good pizza and burgers. Small plates are so so. Outside area is good for kids to run around.
The menu had a great variety to chose from, the sloppy tots are a must. Our waiter was new and it was quite obvious as he got seated a few times we still had a very pleasant dinner. Definitely a great find
Only go for appetizers and cocktails. The entrees have totally gone downhill. I had an Asian style chicken salad and almost gagged on the crispy noodles. They were stale and unpalatable. My daughter ordered a clam chowder bread bowl. It came out in a ceramic bowl and was cold. Totally over priced food for the quality.
I've been going to Surf Spot since it opened, mostly because there are limited decent food venues in Pacifica. In the past two years, the service has gone to heck, although the food has r relatively good. Friends wanted to meet there last weekend and I have to say this was the best meal and the best service we have had their in a long time. I love their pizzas and their drinks are decent. This was a pleasant surprise.
Excellent dog friendly facility. Staff was great to our dogs. Sandra was a very good server.
Decent food bt confused servers and since have been before place needs stability... Great possibly for success
place still rough around edges with shoddy service and mediocre food. great to sit outside and have a beer but skip the rest. needs an over haul
Food was good but as polite as our server tried to be the service could not have been worse. We sat outside, and it was not crowded. All the servers were wondering from table to table not knowing what table their orders belonged to. How could you not know? We also waited a long time for drinks and then our food. My friend gave up and went to the bar and got her own drink. One appetizer, came out and the rest did not arrive until after he was finished. We were told someone else's order came to our table by mistake.
Horrible service, took more than 20 mins to get greeted by a food runner not even a server..
Waitress added fries to meals without consent of diners. When she brought meals, she sis why she picked type of fries but failed to mention that it cost extra.
Food was good, but overpriced. I missed the former check delivery system (old mystery book).
Lively party happening outside made for noisy background but was not disturbing.
service was so unattentive it kind of ruined the night.
Service was REALLY bad . It was Mother's Day, so you I'm gonna give them a slight pass. Our waiter was super spacey. Hostess was amazing, checking up on us when she noticed our waiter hadn't taken care of us.
Food and atmosphere were awesome!
Oh Surf Spot, I want to love you. But I just can't.
Every time you disappoint.
Crazy bad service.
Continually declining food quality.
This time it was fried lemons in my fried calamari - talk about a tastebud surprise! Fried lemon! (Which our server insisted she loved!)
You've got the bones. You've got the location. Why o' why can't you make it work?
Spam sushi was good, kale salad was good, chili was awful.I was expecting, with the name surf spot that we would be looking out over the ocean, but no, we were in a converted parking lot area off of a bowling alley.Food overpriced for the area. Big disappointment.
A business colleague and I had the chicken burritos, which were REALLY tasty. I'll definitely get those again. Nice fresh guacamole and chips, along with a fresh Lagunitas beer. Mmmmm.
We came by a few weekends ago to listen to some great music outdoors and saw someone ordering/eating chicken and waffles for brunch. I've been dreaming about that since I saw it. I have to come back and try that!
I love this place. It's unique. I've been there during the day, special events, dinner & special times.
I'm a local and I've never eaten at the surf spot so I thought I would take my wife on Valentine's Day and experience something new. I have to say that was a big mistake and a big disappointment from the moment we walked in with the host not greeting us even though she was standing right in front of us. I explained I had made a previous reservation and she seemed a little discombobulated as to where to seat us and it took a moment even though the restaurant was not busy actually almost empty. Once the hostess figured out where to seat us she decided she should seat us in the bar instead of one of two adjacent dining rooms, a definite shock since I had made reservations and did not intend a reservation for the bar. Now let's move on to the food, definitely nothing to be desired as my venison sliders were very basic and the buns looked like Safeway store brand buns with two bottoms instead of one bottom and one top. I could go on and on but I will finish by saying I will not go back to that restaurant nor recommend the surf spot to anyone. A huge disappointment and not to mention I now have to make up that dinner with my wife at a more suitable restaurant. Oh and don't bother dressing up its just an average bar and grill.
It was just okay. Nothing special on the menu. Also, I called to make a reservation and the said they were all booked up but when I went to open table the reservations were all there.
This year started getting ready for Valentine's Day two weeks ahead. Made reservations and looked forward to an exciting day. Upon arriving to the restaurant the ambience was very beautiful and inviting. Our waitress arrived to our table shortly after we were seated. The 3 dishes I chose to select was sold out. Both my date and myself took a little time and came across two dishes that we thought would be delightful so we proceeded to place our orders at the same time. It took the food a very long time to be prepared and my dish arrived about 10 minutes before my dates.... By the time her dish arrived my dish was cold. I got to give credit where credit is due, Nice vision but the operation needs a lot of work. We made a 2 hour trip from Brentwood and unfortunately it was very disappointing.
I am a Pacifican and dine here frequently as our little town does not have many good eating options. Surf Spot is a great concept and there is so much I love about it. It has the potential to be wonderful, but the pretty consistent poor service holds it back. (Don't get me wrong, there are a couple of really awesome servers there, too.) Twice in the last three times I was there I had made reservations directly with the restaurant but they weren't in the book when we arrived. The hostess's response was "too bad, can't do anything about it" and I had to be insistent (even providing the name of the person with whom I made the reservation). Fortunately, Surf Spot is now on Open Table. Most of the time (with the exception of those with the awesome servers) our server has disappeared and I've had to go to the bar to order a second round of drinks, or go to the hostess to tell her something ordered was forgotten or we want dessert or need our bill. It just feels like there is an incredible lack of training with the service staff. Such a shame because the food is pretty good and I love that they have music on the weekends and an outdoor eating area for those rare days the weather is nice.
Kid frienly, live music. Inside or outside searing.
We had a really fun evening here. The service was excellent - and even though there was a very rude customer there, our waitress was so gracious and friendly. We were very impressed. Good food, and mmmmm - tater tots in all various ways. Who doesn't love tater tots? We drove over from SSF and will definitely be back.
