Sunset Terrace - Omni Grove Park Inn
Sunset Terrace is our iconic upscale classic restaurant featuring traditional American cuisine with an emphasis on hand cut steaks, seafood and regional favorites and an award winning wine list. Located on the outdoor terrace of the 100 year old Main Inn, enjoy breathtaking views of the Blue Ridge Mountains with a setting and experience that you will always remember.Reservations are strongly recommended.
Soup was poor.
Smashed hamburger was disappointing. Recommend eliminating the smashed part and simply serving a top of the line thick juicy burger.
Waitress was robotic.
$15 to park for an hour at lunch is absurd.
Other than those things it was great.
Excellent food and server Derek was friendly and polite and we enjoyed football conversation with him
The view is spectacular - the food not so much. Two people ordered steakks medium and medium rare. Both came overcooked - they remade steaks and they still didn't come out right, and quite frankly, for the price we've had better beef. One ordered a lamb cutlet and said it wa somewhat tough. The manager tried to make ammends but we were disappointed.
We visited Asheville and had to dine at Sunset Terrace. The view is spectacular! The service is wonderful and the food is full of flavor. Definitely worth going!
Great food & service! The view can’t be beat!
Absolutely wonderful!!! If ur going to experience the Inn?? U have to have lunch/dinner at the Sunset!!! Everything worth the cost!! Including the view!!! Oh!! And ask to sit in Tim’s section!!! This restaurant will build memories also!!!!
Good meal combined with a Tennessee old fashioned.
Most beautiful view in Asheville. We return again and again.
Great sunset view, delicious food and good drink selection plus live music.
What a wonderful meal with a world class view. The menu was excellent. The service was spectacular. A perfect place to celebrate.
Need more food choices for lunch
(Long way to travel for a cheeseburger)
French fries were delicious!
Crab cake sandwich with kumquat sauce😩
Our experience could not have been better! Table/view, food, service, ambiance, experience - all were superb - a wonderful and memorable 52nd anniversary! (Shaun did a great job for us!)
This is always the best place to have a great dinner!! I have been coming to The Grove Park and Sunset Terrace for years and have always had a wonderful experience. Would recommend to everyone, 5 stars for sure!
Way overpriced. The setting is beautiful; but the food was not worth the price.
Best anniversary dinner ever!
The sun depicted in the header is in October. The restaurant is closed during this time. It sets over the building in the summer months. Also you are in the direct sunlight and very hot. It is hard to enjoy the meal. I will not be going back, or suggest anyone else go.
Thank you for reaching out. You are correct that Sunset Terrace is open seasonally, however we wish to clarify that the restaurant is available through the month of October and did not serve its final meal in 2018 until November 18th. Furthermore, Sunset Terrace is fully covered while our lower cocktail terraces offer open-air seating. We hope you will choose to return in the cooler months should this information suit your preferences.
I took my mom to the Sunset Terrace for her 75th birthday. Upon arrival at 6:39 p.m. for our 6:45 p.m. reservation, we were told there would be no more seating until at least 7:00 and to come back. When we went back at 7:00, many tables had already been seated since we arrived and we got scrunched way down at the end. We didn’t get much of a view with two rows of tables closer to the edge. It was a bit warm, but where we were seated there was no ceiling fan, so we were kind of sweaty. There were flying insects all throughout dinner. The credit card machine was down, so we had to pay the old-school manual way in the entire hotel - bar and restaurant. The valet could only take cash due to the glitch. So, it wasn’t the relaxing, upscale time we were expecting. It was pretty chaotic and kind of irritating considering I plunked down several hundred dollars.
That being said, the view is amazing and the service was very good. The food was good, but not anything super special. The hotel is gorgeous. It’s worth the trip, but hopefully you won’t have the hectic experience that we had. 🤷♀️
This was an amazing experience for a special occasion (our 50th wedding anniversary). The Grove Park Inn overlooks one of the most spectacular views in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Although it was cloudy the night we were there we still feel we didn't miss much. Dinner at the Sunset Grill was very well executed. Their Wedge salad (which we both had) was delicious. My husband had the Filet Mignon which he ranked as one of the best he's eaten. For my entree I chose the Lamb Chop - thinking I would get a Loin Chop. Instead I got a Lamb Leg Chop - bigger, but not as tender as a Loin. It was very good though & the mint/shallot sauce was really good. Next time, I'll be really careful to read the menu properly!
Our server, Stephanie, was outstanding - very sweet & patient. Because of our anniversary, we did get a special dessert treat compliments of the management. All in all a really memorable experience!
Arrived 15 mins early, was told to “you need to come back at 1:00” which I get, I was early but there was no suggestion like have a drink in the bar, relax in the lobby or some other suggestion, nor an offer to come get us when they were ready. The restaurant was not especially busy. The service was below average, as we were seated, the young man handed out the menus and knocked an empty glass onto the floor, it shattered. He was flustered and said he would be back, he was, eventually but in the mean time we are sitting amidst broken glass, with no one coming forward to assist him. Very little talk or suggestion from the waiter about the food, she did announce the two specials and left. The food arrived rather quickly, which honestly was a surprise but my glass of wine was delivered after my lunch was served. I assumed the waiter had forgotten....more there but I’ll let it go. The food was below average, dull and tired. Anemic French fries, uninspired $25 fish special.....I am happy to pay for good food (and have never written a review of any kind) but this seemed like a rip off. I have eaten there many times pre-Omni and it was always delicious, good service and well organized, not this time. Not going back. Disappointing.
Thank you for your candid feedback. This is not the guest experience we aim to deliver, and we genuinely apologize for the service you received. We have shared your concerns with the Food & Beverage management team and hope you will choose to return when we may better show you the standard of hospitality for which we are truly known.
As a local resident, it is wonderful to have this lovely spot available to us for al fresco dining. The food is surprisingly tasty for hotel fare. It is pricey, of course, and parking is a challenge if one doesn't valet, but all in all the ambiance is sooooo worth it.
We ate at the sunset terrace for our anniversary dinner. It was a lovely setting and the sunset was gorgeous, however, once the sun had gone down it was way tooo dark. It would be better if they had dim lights to come on after the sun goes down. My husband and I couldn’t even see our food, and we are in our mid thirties, no glasses or vision problems yet—- just no light. The service was excellent and the food was yummy, but a bit overpriced for what you get. Overall we very much enjoyed our dinner, and the desert was incredible! (Just would have liked to see it) For a tip.. I’d recommend booking your meal so that it ends with the sunset not starting with the sunset ;)
The view and and service was great. The appetizers, steaks and dessert were wonderful.
Sunset Terrace has the most beautiful views in the city. It’s been a couple of years since we ate there. The food used to be good (you do pay for the views) My salad was good, but the steak was tasteless and tough (at $47 you expect better) Our order came out wrong, and the waiter had to make 3 trips to get everything right. This will not be our special place to go anymore!
Thank you for your continued patronage. We appreciate your business however apologize that this visit fell short of previous experiences. We have shared your concerns with the Executive Chef and hope we have not lost you as a loyal customer.
Always great service and the food is exceptional! I would recommend this restaurant to all who frequent the Grove Park.
Waitress failed to bring bread to the table after asking 3 times. Then eventually sent over by someone else after being aggravated by our asking. This was a small cousin reunion and we had picked a special place for dining.
Food was outstanding , disappointed with the service.
We had an amazing dinner for our anniversary! They gave us complimentary champagne and a complimentary little dessert! Our server Brian was so funny and made sure everything was perfect! We can’t wait to go back!
Sunset Terrace was the picture perfect ending to a perfect birthday for my girlfriend. The view was breathtaking, the service was warm & welcoming & the food was amazing. I highly recommend having dinner there on any visit to Asheville.
fabulous ambience and our meal was wonderful .. great service
The food was excellent! My sister and I were celebrating our birthdays and they surprised us with a birthday dessert. The view was spectacular!
We enjoyed our quiet dinner on the porch. The view was amazing and the food was wonderful.
Breathtaking view on the veranda. Our server, Brian, was outstanding. He gave dinner recommendations for downtown Asheville. I had the trout, my family had the blt, hamburger and crab cakes for lunch. All were fantastic!
Kendall has a terrific smile and marvelous enthusiasm for the menu. Food was delicious. Sun can be a problem at 7 pm.
I bring my mother here every year for a birthday luncheon. This time, we both had the crab cake sandwich, but I opted for no bread, so the condiments came in small ramekins for me to apply as desired. The crab cake was tasty (but a little squishy - I prefer a more solid texture), & the kumquat preserve was an interesting addition. The french fries were also good. The complementary bread was a biscuit, which was everything a biscuit should be - a little crunchy on the outside, light & fluffy on the inside - I wish mine were so good. We were too full for dessert. Of course, the view is beautiful, & the service topnotch. Yes, it's a little pricey, but we go for the experience, and for me, it is well worth it!
Must admit the location is pretty, the cost of food is very expensive. The quality is ok but price outweighs quality. We stayed there 4 nights and found the overall cost of food very expensive. We are used to NJ and NYC but felt it was high in comparison. Also paying for sides etc.
Food and service were excellent. Mark did a great job. Both times this week!
Tremendous view, atmosphere and evening. A special place for a fabulous view and dinner. Highly recommend for that special evening
The restaurant as well as all of the grounds is absolutely breathtaking. We had the perfect table with an amazing view of the mountains and downtown. Our waitress was so friendly and accommodating. She went above and beyond and even brought us a beautifully decorated dessert since we were celebrating our anniversary. It was an added bonus that we were able to see fireworks as well. Our entire experience was wonderful and will definitely be back again!
Service and Ambiance were excellent. The food was very good, but the kitchen has difficulty getting hot food out to guests while very hot. most hot items were very warm but not hot. Great for special occasions but not haute cuisine.
Every time we go to Asheville we go to the Sunset Terrace. Asheville would not be the same without it.
