First time there as we traveled through. Great locations, Great views and excellent food. Lex was our server...FIRST class!!
Great views. Good food. Expensive
Great service and view was amazing. Food was poor for the price.
Thank you for reaching out, and we apologize that the food was not to your liking. Should you choose to dine with us again, we have shared your comments with the Executive Chef in an effort to improve.
The view was everything at this restaurant and our server (Stephanie) was absolutely fantastic in making recommendations and making us feel quite at home and not rushed. The drinks were well made. I ordered the filet and it was cooked perfectly. My husband really enjoyed his scallops. That said, our sides were not impressive -- mashed potatoes and brusselsprouts were both disappointing for the price and the high quality of the rest of our meal. They weren't bad per se, just not up to the same standards as the other dishes or the quality of sides we've had at other fine dining restaurants. Keep in mind, the hotel website says attire is resort casual, but most women wore dresses and men wore button ups and khakis...many wore a blazer. Also, it's called a sunset terrace but the sun actually sets on a side of the hotel -- not straight on. It makes sense, but we expected to see more of a direct sunset straight ahead. Still, it was beautiful setting and great food.
We sat next to a large family with very loud children, but other than that it was still nice. The Roasted Petite Chicken I ordered might have been a little too salty.
This is great for a special occasion. The view from the Terrace is incredible The food is quite good. In our case, the wait staff was exceptional and added to the experience!
I thought it was extremely overpriced. If I pay $150 for two entrees it better be exceptional. It was good but certainly not worth the price.
Thank you for reaching out. We will share your comments with the appropriate department leaders.
I would recommend Sunset Terrace...BUT...the food is just average. It's more expensive than it should be. I guess they're charging more because you get a nice view. The service was good. Our table was next to the waiter station, which is near the middle of the porch really (makes no sense) so we were witness to too much "in house" stuff from the waitstaff. Our party of four had trout (very small portion of trout and veggies and trout was too done), lobster cobb (good salad), burger and fries (burgers really should be cooked to order and are not so this was just too done & fries were just so so), and fried green tomato BLT (dry dry dry). The biscuits were good (especially when first given to the table and hot because they quickly got hard) and the dessert maple creme brulee was quite good.
Great experience, had one of the best filet mignon’s I've ever eaten!!!
Beautiful views, excellent meal, pleasant atmosphere! Loved!
I reserved a table for my boyfriend and I at the Sunset Terrace for my birthday a few months in advance, as it was a place I had been dying to go for a while now. We arrived early and as we were walking to our table, the hostess asked if it was a special occasion, and I shared that it was my birthday. We arrived at our high-top table that was tucked away from the sunset view and were seated. My boyfriend immediately noticed that there was a much more ideal table being cleared right at the edge of the balcony and politely asked the hostess if we might be able to be seated there. The hostess went to check and came back to hastily share that we could not be moved. We were bummed but not totally defeated. Our waitress was hospitable and attentive. When the food came, we were very underwhelmed. The food was bland, generic, and incredibly overpriced. The night ended with no birthday treat. At a nice, special--occasion restaurant like this one, I was very surprised that no effort was made to help make my birthday special. Needless to say, I will not be returning or recommending the Sunset Terrace to anyone.
Thank you for letting us know about your experience and may we wish you a very happy birthday. Our standard is to give each special occasion table a celebratory dessert plate, and we genuinely apologize for the service you received, as this is not the hospitality for which we are known. We hope you will choose to dine with us again and give us another opportunity.
The food and service was really good.
Gorgeous Views. Wonderful Menu and Delicious food. Excellent Service. Could not ask for a more delightful dining experience.
Beautiful view from the Sunset Terrace. We enjoyed brunch. I had a very unusual but delicious hamburger with cheese and horseradish slaw.
The dinner was spectacular. I had a special request of the chef to serve an item that was on their lunch menu (yes, we ate there for lunch the same day we ate dinner) and the chef gladly obliged. Our server was polite and friendly, but did forget a couple of our requests and we had to reminder her a couple of times of the items we were waiting on, but overall it was a fantastic dinner and you just can’t beat the gorgeous sunset view!
Lex was our server & she was awesome!! Gorgeous setting and scrumptious food from the oysters, entrees, veggies to desserts! A bit of a splurge but we all thought it was the best dinner experience we’ve had so far in our travels!
Visiting the Grove Park Inn is the ultimate day trip. It is close to my home, a breathtaking view of WNC from all windows while passing through the Inn corridors, a 5-star dining experience at Sunset Terrace, professional wait staff, the experience there is always that of great ambience and cheer...always inviting me to return soon.
The weather and view were spectacular and the food was surprisingly good for a hotel. I had the fried green tomato blt, a friend had the vegie burger and another friend had a cobb salad. We felt so privileged to live in Asheville and have this stunning venue available to us.
While I love the view/setting and found the staff very attentive and knowledgeable, the food (Salmon and Sea Bass) were very average and I would never go back there to pay the price for the food selections we made. Sides were good...but nothing we found particularly special. The Salmon was not very flavorful and a thin narrow slice. Bass was good ....but nothing special again for the price. My husband and I were belatedly celebrating out 30th anniversary and were excited to experience the food at the Terrace ......but were unfortunately disappointed. We did eat at another restaurant at the Grove Park Inn the next night and enjoyed our meal.
Food was okay. Crab cake sandwich was very fishy tasting. Other minor disappointments
The grove park inn is such a unique place with its architecture, service, food, views, and parts of history it carries. I would recommend to anyone looking for a great place to eat with a view. My meal was fantastic and our service was great as well.
Amazing and delicious! Also gorgeous. Expensive? Yes but worth every penny!
I loved the food! It was the absolute best meal I had had in a long time!
What a phenomenal experience. Pictures do not do it justice. Great atmosphere, A+ service. Can't wait to go back next time I'm in town.
Despite a rain off/on evening, the picture was wonderful. Great views all covered and food prepared exactly made this a very special anniversary meal.
Short Ribs were barely edible. Both of us who had them felt the same.
My girlfriend and I took a weekend getaway trip to Asheville/Saluda and had dinner at the Sunset Terrace at the Grove Park Inn. The sights were absolutely beautiful and the food was even better. It was a much needed vacation and we will be sure to visit again!
The view, service and food were all amazing. I hope to return to Asheville, and if so would love to come back to the Sunset Terrace.
Our waitress was out standing, she new everything about the menu she took our order without writing anything down. She was friendly made us feel she had known us for a long time. Her name is Alex.
Value? That is not really a fair rating request for the Sunset Terrace. You go to be wowed. You go to have a memorable experience. You go to be in awe of The Lord’s nature and the talents of men. You will not be disappointed. Immerse yourself in history and beauty. Leave the tightwad and complainer at home. Just go. And smile and allow yourself to relax. You will regret it.
Our waiter was very good and attentive. I did the Seabass and I found it to be overly fishy. I know one should expect Fish to be fishy but Most of the time it is not true with certain fish. Also felt $190 we spent was a bit much since we only had two drinks and no dessert.
Views outside were outstanding. Food was very good and our server was attentive and knowledgeable.
Overbreaded and overcooked kids chicken fingers, undercooked elk steak and undercooked risotto. Incompetent, unfriendly and condescending “supervisor”!!
Thank you for taking the time to offer us your feedback. We have discussed your review and internal notes with our management team and recognize that the gracious hospitality we are known for was not reflected in your dining experience. Although we credited back $50 towards your meal and welcomed you back to Sunset Terrace the following day, we do apologize for the inconvenience and hope you will give us the opportunity to show you the standard of service we strive to provide in the future.
Outstanding view along with exceptional food and service
The biscuits are amazing, our server Michael was fantastic. You could not ask fora better view of the mountains, it was a terrific dining experience.
The views are spectacular and the building well worth seeing. However, the service was abysmal. We tried to check in 15 minutes early, but after a long wait the very young and apparently undertrained hostess said we had to wait another 15 minutes, even though there were almost one half of the tables empty. When we came back, again an unduly long time beer we were seated. Then the nightmare began; our waitress Silke D. didn’t like my comment it took too long to get seated. While she was sweet and very accommodating to the tables around us, she decided we weren’t deserving of the slightest service. The dishes from our appetizer remained uncleared until after our dinners arrived, I had to put the dishes on an adjoining table so our entrees could fit on the table. She obviously knew of my dissatisfaction so she volunteered to have a manager come to the table. There were other problems but I won’t elaborate. The cost of the meals is at least as expensive as the NYC restaurants we frequent, but the service and the resolution of our issues was third rate. I might also add the food was second rate as well: if a steak and two sides is over $50 it should be exceptional, not ordinary.
Thank you for your candid feedback. We are thrilled to hear that you enjoyed the overall ambiance of Sunset Terrace however apologize the same sentiments did not extend to your dining experience. Should you choose to visit us again, we have shared your comments with the appropriate department leaders.
Our server Alex (Alexandria) was outstanding and she made sure our experience was top notch.
The location, view and service were fantastic and we hit it on a perfect weather evening. Food quality was fantastic, we enjoyed steaks and the Chilean Sea Bass and the biscuits with honey butter could not have been better!
Everything was excellent. The overall experience was more than we could imagine and will recommend to everyone.
